So I'm currently working on my own version of a Minotaur race, and I copied the Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica Minotaur as the foundation for that. One of the racial traits "Horns" adds a piercing natural weapon, compromised of a modifier (Natural Weapon -> Piercing -> 1d8) and an Action (Weapon -> Melee -> Natural -> Piercing -> 1d8).
The thing is, while the action's impact on a character is obvious, as it adds a Horns weapon attack to the character sheet that you can roll to attack and damage with, I can't figure out what (if anything) the modifier actually does? Removing it seems to have no meaningful impact; the attack is still listed, it's still a natural weapon with the correct damage etc., so what is the natural weapon modifier actually for, if anything? Or is it vestigial (made sense once but doesn't actually do anything anymore, if ever)?
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
