Couldn't find another thread on this so I thought I would start one.
I thought it would be an interesting campaign to run if my players where dragons. However, instead of giving them the stat block of multiple Dragons from the MM, I decided it would be much more exciting to have them as a playable race.
However it is much more complected that I thought. For example there are two sets of variables that change the mechanics of that dragon; it's colour and type (wurm, drake, occidental, etc). And even more complicated, classes don't really function well on Dragons. A few might have aspects that work (such as a Barbarians rage or maybe a rogues sneak attack). So now I have starting making "Dragon Archetypes" that work as classes and it is a lot of work. I want to give my players the full customization that they would have if playing one of the vanilla classes and races but it proves to be difficult.
So I am wondering if anyone else has worked on homebrewing a dragon race and how they went about it.
(I will post my homebrew PDF that I have worked on once I get to a good stopping point so you all may critique it).

You could take a look here which seems to be roughly what you're looking for and should at least give you some ideas. :)
