Hi there, looking for some feedback on this upgraded version of the Shambling Mound. It's supposed to be a tough fight for a group of four level 5 characters. Would really appreciate some feedback :)
pretty good though use minor tweaking here or their also one of its lair actions say something about a roof why is their a giant evil mass of plants inside my cave
Thanks for the feedback! I will change the wording so the lair action will be usable anywhere, instead of just indoors (it was made for a specific scenario in a flooded basement).
What is the range on the Split Vine in the LA section? I would suggest, say, 30 feet, and if the target is Restrained, the Shambling Mound pulls the target 15 or 20 feet/ turn towards the Shambling Mound.

So they way I was envisioning it was the Shambling Mound would launch a detached vine at the target, like it's not attached to the shambling mound. The range would be 30 ft. I will rephrase that as well.
I was thinking for an advanced version of this, the split vine would still be alive, and it would try to drag its target back to the shambling mound. I think it would be a bit to strong for a cr5 though

its not cr 5 though you just havnt goten around to changing the cr its a way more powerful version of a cr5 creature and that said a cr 2 (or somewhere around that area) creature has a similar power

The thing is, the cr scale is a little inaccurate. I'm fairly confident my party of 4 level 5s will be able to win against this version, even after a couple small encounters to drain resources.
The Shambling Mound has 20ft movement. It will try lock down the players with vines, then waddle up and slam them. If it also has a "get over here" ability, it is suddenly way more dangerous. Its weakness is its speed, and it needs that weakness or i think it becomes a lot harder to defeat.
