General theme is intended to be swords and sorcery, an empire fell a thousand years prior and remnants can be found everywhere: this enemy is a construct that served as a guardian for their more important religious and military sites, and in some cases, acted as (highly effective) armored infantry in ground combat. The particular one I intend to throw them up against in the first session is damaged, but future encounters with such constructs will be against battle-ready units.
Honestly if that's the case you can literally reskin any creature in the MM to this I would make the resistance to Piercing, Bludgeoning, and Slashing either during an effect that lasts X rounds or be only resistant to non-magical damage like that. Then the lightning could be the vulnerability. Reskin any humanoid enemy, or for that matter non-humanoid enemy to be a mechanical version of that thing. For extra flavor you could give it the Undead Fortitude ability from zombies but instead of it being undead and radiant give it Mechanical Fortitude and make it lightning damage.
Trying to create a boss enemy for a level 1 session of 5 to 7 players. Some design goals for this enemy:
Would appreciate any suggestions for such an enemy.
What's the theme to the campaign? Perhaps i could help you homebrew something.
