Kosef joins Evendur and the others by Kendes. "If the lizard hadn't gotten the jump of you, this all would have gone differently," he says. He watches the departing kobolds. "I agree that we ought to pursue them. If raiding the town is not more costly for them, they will be back."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Before the battle started, Valas watched from afar with the borrowed bow in hand. "Half-dragon..."he muttered, studying the large warrior.
History on what a half-dragon is, versus dragonborn, etc. (dragon scholar, etc. too): 25
Valas then watched the battle unfold, hoping Kendes would survive. As he watched Langdedrosa and the rest of the raiders now suddenly depart Greenest the elf called upon his familiar once more.
"Brave Xymor, if you would do me the honor of your service once more, please follow these raiders, especially the large half dragon, and report to me on where they go. Do fly high and stay safe, my friend."
Nighthill nods at Kosef and Evendur's words. "We wouldbe grateful if you pursued the raiders. But you should rest up. It has been a long night." He fishes in his pockets and pulls out two bottles containing red liquid. He hands them to Kendes and says, "Take these. Your friend seems to have helped, but you still look unwell."
Xymor flies up into the sky, following the raiders. Roll a stealth check for Xymor.
OOC: Kendes receives two potions of healing. You all reach level 2.
Kosef takes a journal from his backpack as part of his rest later that night. He'll record what he's learned, summarizing the point of each experience in a page or two. At the end of this, he feels like he's reached a completely new level as a fighter.
Valas recalls some information about half-dragons. Half-dragons are the children of dragons and humanoids. They have the shape of a humanoid, but several dragon traits like scales and a breath weapon. Valas is unsure how they are different from dragonborn, but he knows the answer is probably in a decent sized library.
When Kendes has been properly taken care of and is back on his feet Evendur stands and looks to the horizon trying to catch a glimpse of the retreating raiders. "By Torm, justice will come for you." As the last person he slowly walks back to the keep.
"Milord, it is over milord."Evendurs squire greets him back at the keep. "No, this is not over brave Randal, I sense that this might just be the beginning." "Yes milord, of course milord." Randal then sees to that Sir Evendur finds a place to eat, drink and sleep, preferably close to his newfound companions. "Oh, I nearly forgot, Randal my loyal squire, could you try to find a boy missing a teddy bear for me." "Yes milord, of course milord."
Sir Evendur then sits down and writes a letter.
"Greetings Master Frume
I have now reached the town of Greenest, and it was clearly Torms will that I arrived when I did. As I came upon the town it was attacked by the Cult of the Dragon and the great dragon Lennithon. Mighty Torm have blessed me with brave and resourceful companions and together we defended the town and saved many of the townsfolk. It is now known to us that the Cult of the Dragon means to gather a hoard of treasure in order to usher in the reign of the evil goddess Tiamat. Know that I will not rest until the designs of the Cult of the Dragon has been thwarted.
Your faithful student Sir Evendur Archebolde"
"Randal, see to it that this reaches Master Ontharr Frume with haste." "Yes milord"
Sir Evendur then sleeps the sleep of the righteous, waking up early, blessed with new divine powers surely gifted to him in order to help him defeat the Cult of the Dragon.
Kendes comes to with a start when Evendur heals him with a touch, panicked. He sags a bit when he sees the woman has been freed, and then feels the pain of his wounds catching up to him, collapsing back against the ground. Throwing one arm over his eyes, he groans. "That... was an embarrassment to everyone." Still, as he pulls his hand away and sits up slowly, he grins at the others, looking back at the freed woman, now in the arms of the guard who'd rushed to save her. "Worth it, though, and no one had to die." He staggers to his feet slowly, surprised by the potions presented to him, and then thanks Nighthill profusely.
Before going off to rest, Kendes finds Evendur and says gruffly, "Thanks for healing me. I was in a bad way there, and you didn't really need to do that after the words we've been exchanging. I owe you one."
That evening, Kendes tries to find Atala and Mhurn before resting, to try his best to use the skills of what he liked to think of as his 'previous' life to coordinate relief supplies for the town with the two. He tells them of the blue dragon, and warns them of where it fled, so as to help keep them from running into it on their travels. And he apologizes, once more, feeling a deep-rooted sense of guilt for the hand his family had in bringing about Greenest's near-destruction.
Once that business has been put in order, Kendes retires to his room to rest uneasily, dreaming of half-dragons, full-dragons, fire, and his father's pale, waxen face, forcing him to promise, promise, promise. "I don't know if I'm strong enough,"he tries to tell Valgas, whose only response is to frown sternly, and chide him - "Then grow stronger, Kendes!" before being swallowed by the flames.
Kendes wakes up in a cold sweat the next morning, rested, but feeling more uneasy than ever.
As Kosef makes his notes and prepares to sleep, he watches the people of the town, especially for the monk who saved him in Baldur's Gate. He watches for Leosin. In fact, he will ask Kendes if the two have meet.
Kosef does not spot the monk, but a bit of silver catches his eye as Eadyan moves by, supporting a wounded young man. The silver is part of a dragon design, chased into a braided leather choker. Kosef remembers seeing the choker around Leosin's neck the last time they met. The choker is clutched in the young man's hand.
Atala and Mhurn listen to Kendes plans and instructions. They nod in agreement with his ideas, and prepare their caravans to depart. Before they go, Atala says, "You had no idea this would happen." She seems a little guilty herself.
Xymor returns with information. The raiders are headed south. The owl saw them travel through the hills and into rocky plateaus. The owl remembers seeing some people dressed in black lurking in the rocky region. Langdedrosa was easily visible from above, due to his blueness, and was seen near the front of the group. He was with a similar creature, except it was black. There was also a human in purple with them.
When you are all rested, Governor Nighthill comes to find you. "We've lost a lot in this raid," he says, "But you have done a lot for this town. I am willing to offer you 250 gold each if you go to the camp. I know it was your goal to go anyway, but I feel we must give you something for your trouble. I need to know where the camp is, how many raiders it has, and who is in charge. If you need any supplies for your trip, we will do our best to provide it."
When Nighthill finishes talking Escobert rushes over and hands over a quiver with 20 arrows to Valas. "I know you wanted arrows. Here are some more. If the rest of you need anything, I'll do my best to find it."
"Opposing this Cult of the Dragon will be it´s own reward Governor Nighthill. We will find this camp and the information you seek and mighty Torm will be our guide on this epic quest." Evendur proudly answers the governor and prepares to leave the keep on his mighty steed Bayard, now miraculously recovered from last nights illness.
As Evendur does that, his squire hurries over to the companions and adds. "I apologize, but my master has never taken care of our finances, he means well but we do actually need some gold to continue this quest. I usually take care of Sir Evendurs monetary issues, but if any of you would rather do that I know that he would trust any of you with it." Randal then turns to Escobert "Do you by any chance have a lance availble for my master. I am afraid he recently broke his last one on a cliff that, to his defense, was very lifelike and definitely resembled a fearsome dragon."
Kosef immediately stands and follows Eadyan. He'll take the other side of the wounded young man, so the man is supported on his left and right. First, he'll greet Eadyan, but once he is introduced, he will say, "Tell me about your choker. I wish to repay a debt to a man who wore a similar one. His name was Leosin. Do you know him or know of him?"
Escobert says, "We have a lance available. A knight left one here when he came to visit." Escobert goes away, and comes staggering back with the lance. "I hope this is will do. Your master had better not break this one on a cliff. We don't have another."
Randal is able to find a boy missing a stuffed rabbit.
As Kendes walks through the throngs of people, asking each one about the locket and the figurines, and offering the swords and armors he collected to those who seem to want to purchase personal weaponry, he overhears Kosef speaking with Eadyan and the young man. Moving closer to them, he asks "Leosin? You know a Leosin? Half-elf with the beard as dark as his skin was pale? He was my mentor," Kendes tells Kosef, surprised. "Why are you looking for him?"
(Let me know how many of the 7 scimitars, 3 daggers, 1 spear, or 2 chain shirts Kendes manages to sell. Kendes will not try to sell the saffron here, figuring it's not important right now. He will try to find the owners of the figurines and especially the locket, which seems sentimental.)
"May Torm bless you and your town castellan. I am sure this one here will find a better suited target."Randal thanks Escobert for the lance and carries it in a practiced manner over to his master that is already eagerly waiting on his mighty destrier to pursue the dragon cultists. "Aha, a lance. Now I am ready to fight that Lennithon. Open the gates castellan!" "But milord, you don´t know which way the raiders went. Perhaps your companions can assist you with finding them if you would be patient enough to wait for them" "Ah, yes of course, I will just practice with this lance then while I wait, shall I." "Yes milord, just be careful milord, no dragons around just yet milord."
Randal then hurries around to the companions and informs them that his master is awaiting them by the keep gate whenever they are ready to continue their quest.
Kendes searches the keep for the owners of the items, and buyers for the weapons and armour.
The woman with three children from the beginning of the night comes over and purchases the spear. She also buys the daggers, and distributes them to her husband and eldest children. A nervous looking man offers some money for a chain shirt and a scimitar, though it does not seem like he knows how to use the sword. A gnome merchant offers to purchase the rest of the gear, but she complains that the scimitars and chain shirt are used, and only wants to pay half-price.
Kendes is able to find the owner of the duck with little difficulty. The owner is an elderly man. He thanks Kendes for returning the duck. The locket is identified by a weeping woman in good quality clothes. The locket belonged to her late husband Orel. She thanks Kendes for returning the locket, and offers him 15 gold pieces as a reward. No owner for the warthog is found.
(I forgot to look for the owner of the cutlery I had! XD Tallied up that came to a sale of 197 gold. Kendes will keep 1 GP as a finder's fee, which means everyone else can add 49 GP to their inventory. Left over is an ivory warthog, a box of saffron, and some spare cutlery.)
After wandering the keep with his wares, Kendes manages to come back with a heavy sack of coin. It's reminiscent of his merchant days, and he thinks fondly of his father for a minute, before shaking his head. Finding the others, he attempts to distribute the coin, though he ends up dividing Kipio's share amongst the others since he can't spot the little kobold. "Here," he tells them. "The raiders decided to donate to the cause of equipping ourselves to fight them," he jokes as he hands each of his companions their share.
Evendurs squire Randal accepts the gold Kendes hands out on his masters behalf all the while Sir Evendur looks a bit confounded sitting with his new lance on Bayard.
As Randal places the gold in one of the saddlebags a conversation can be heard.
"I say, why in the name of Torm would the raiders donate to us? What do you make of it Randal, is it perhaps a nefarious bribe, because no amount of treasure will keep me from excacting justice upon these vile dragon cultists."
"No milord, I believe it to be a joke milord."
"A joke you say, why would the raiders joke about this bribe?"
"No milord, I meant that your companion Kendes was joking milord."
"Oh, I see, very well then." But anyone can see that Sir Evendur is still somewhat confounded.
Kosef joins Evendur and the others by Kendes. "If the lizard hadn't gotten the jump of you, this all would have gone differently," he says. He watches the departing kobolds. "I agree that we ought to pursue them. If raiding the town is not more costly for them, they will be back."
