When the brave companions reach Greenest by dawn Sir Evendur, and likely everyone else, is in a dire need of a rest, but he diligently seeks out Governor Nighthill to submit their report on their findings at the cultist camp. When he caught up with the others he would have let some of the rescued ex-prisoners rest on Bayard on the home stretch.
(Huzzah! Leveling up... Nice work Evendur and Bayard!)
(Might Valas be able to buy some studded leather in Greenest? Maybe Evendur can help him get a discount considering their rescue of some townsfolk. :) )
(OOC: Thanks, perhaps the best use of a horse I have ever had, but it´s also my first time ever playing a pally I think. Sorry, but I can´t really see Evendur haggling if that´s what you mean. Studded leather is fairly cheap though isn´t it. Evendurs gold can be used as long as he has enough to feed himself, Randal and Bayard :-)
(OOC: Awesome. Love to level up. A very enjoyable game, Loosestrife! Thank you.)
Kosef will find the best healer in town and wake her or him to care for Leosin. He will stay with Leosin.
He is more convinced than ever that making and keeping promises honorably is valuable. He also records everything he has learned about combat and fighting with a great weapon over the last few day.
On the way back Leosin took advantage of Bayard once Evendur returned. The prisoners did not move very fast, and were easily caught up to. They were fearful at first, but relaxed once they realized who was back with them. When they returned to Greenest, Nighthill, the family and friends of the prisoners, and Leosin's monks rush to greet them. They thank Valas, Kosef, Kendes, and Evendur for bringing them back safely. As everyone goes their separate ways, the monks trail after Leosin and Kosef.
Nighthill returns to the keep and listens to what Evenedur has to report. While Evendur speaks Escobert records what is known of the camp. When Evendur finishes, the governor thanks him, "You've done good work, Sir Evendur. As have your companions. You helped this town the night of the raid, drove off a dragon, rescued prisoners from their camp, and even gave us some information about who these people are. Find your friends, and tell them we'll have a small feast in your honour tonight. And here is 1000 gold to divide amongst the four of you." Escobert tucks away his paper and rushes off to the kitchens to make preparations.
Kosef is able to find Eadyan, the priest, who is able to tend to Leosin. As Eadyan fetches water and broth to re-hydrate and re-nourish the monk, Leosin addresses Kosef. "I must thank you for saving me, back at the camp. I may have misjudged the capabilities of my captors." He sighs. "I am glad to see you were worth saving. You've done a lot for the people of Greenest. And you should stay a little longer. I think we'll have need of you again." Eadyan then returns, and has Leosin consume some broth.
Most of the shops of Greenest were damaged in the raid, but many items were left unharmed. After word has spread of the heroism of the four strangers Valas can easily convince someone to give him a discount (25% off from Greenest's merchants, can attempt some persuasion if Valas wants an even lower price).
If Kendes is looking for more buyers of weapons, Atala might agree to take some off his hands. She does have a business to maintain, though, and will only take shabby cultist gear at half its price.
Kendes will sell off 4 of the scimitars (50 GP total) left over after having handed out so many of his spears, daggers, slings, and other weapons to the escaped prisoners. He also sells off the saffron, the figurine, and the cutlery he'd forgotten to deal with during the first raid on Greenest. Afterwards, counting out the money, he finds his companions and gives them each 18 gold coins. Once that business is taken care of, he joins Kosef to find Leosin, and get some answers to his questions.
He also attempts to buy a wooden mask, an herbalism kit and thieves' tools from Atala if she has any available.
"You look much improved, and we have time to talk now,"he tells the man. "Before we get into any talk about your mission and my dad's involvement... you were trying to gather information on what Cyanwrath was doing there, right?" Kendes tells him as much of what he could gather from what he saw about Cyanwrath, the bag, and the guarded cave.
(Sorry for not being more active at the moment. I'll be slowly trying to get back to better form, thanks for letting me continue with Kendes.)
I forgot to sell one item, so I edited the post above... everyone should be able to get 18 gold coins in their inventory from Kendes offloading his hamster collection. Kendes is keeping the extra 7 silver and 5 copper from the sale for ease of maths. Also the d6 is for Kendes's merciful mask, which is a "laughing visage" :
Atala sells Kendes the tools he needs, as well as a wooden mask. Kendes then goes to talk to Leosin. Leosin is pleased to see him, and listens to the report on Cyanwrath. When Kendes has filled him in he strokes his beard and says, "Hmm. Cyanwrath's presence and guards around the entrance suggest the rumours of the cultists were true. It seems Rezmir is planning to hatch a clutch of dragon eggs. Cyanwrath was likely bringing them food. I imagine Rezmir would trust few others around such an important task."
(I appreciate staying true to the character of Sir Evendur if he's not a haggler, the DM's hero's discount anyhow, and Enkida/Kendes keeping track of the profits from mundane goods! Thanks all!)
When not introducing himself to Leosin and listening to any intel he has gathered Valas will spend some time in Greenest inquiring as to whether the dragon in known in this region. He might also ask if there are any wizards around with whom he could swap notes (learn new spells).
As Evendur returns to the keep his trusty squire Randal welcomes him with the others. "Milord you are back, what happened at the camp?" "Apart from a few skirmishes on our way there I infiltrated the camp as the nefarious Sir Rudneve, an excellent performance if I may say so brave Randal. Now I have to see Governor Nighthill to report on our findings at the camp. See to Bayard, would you brave Randal."
After a thorough report on the mission to the cultist camp Sir Evendur is overwhelmed by the amount of gold recieved. "One thousand gold, that´s almost half a million, isn´t it Randal?." "No milord, not quite milord. Allow me to distribute the gold between the companions milord."
Randal then finds any non present companion and gives them 250 gold and informs them of the feast. Evendur then will find a place, preferably an Inn, to sleep soundly until the evenings festivities. Meanwhile Randal uses some of his masters gold to purchase a splint mail if available in Greenest.
(OOC: No problem Enkida, you are still posting more frequently than anyone are in one of the other campaigns I take part in, glad to have you around :-)
Kosef, knowing Leosin will be well taken care of, leaves him with Eadyan. He goes looking in the keep and the town for his companions, planning to share Leosin's request that they stay in town and curious about how reporting to the governor went.
If he has time, he will sharpen his sword and practice throwing the javelin and spear. He'll also see if Greenest has a book and scroll store. He is interested in books about combat.
Eventually, he plans to attend the dinner with the others.
Greenest seems to lack both a bookstore and a wizard, but Escobert can help Kosef find a few books about fighting and war in the keep's library, and is also able to show Valas a few tomes describing proper spellcasting technique and providing tips on how to cast various spells. No information on the dragon is found in the town, though many people try to help. Evendur is able to find a smith who offers to work on a suit of armor. He informs Evendur that some armour is already in production, and promises to finish it up in a few days. He then rounds up his apprentices, and redirects them to the task of the armour.
If nothing else occurs, the four heroes are invited to the feast, and supplied with freshly caught antelope, wine, juice and various other fine things. Leosin is not present, prefering to rest, but Nighthill, Escobert, Kipio, and others are seated in the keep's dining hall. Nighthill praises the courage of the four. The leathery man then gets up with a flute and starts playing a song. The night is filled with food, praise, and music.
Kosef seems to have a great time at the dinner. He thanks Escobert for help finding the books he can study and eats several antelopes worth of fine steak, complimenting the cook between each bite. His juice cup is never full. He has honorably keep a promise and repaid a debt.
But he is thinking and slightly distracted by the camp, not far away, full of people who would destroy this gathering. Dragons and their worshipers would, he thinks, steal the food and shelter from the poorest of those in this town. Valas, Evendur, Kendes, and he have done good things, but the celebration also feels a little early.
He has more juice and wonders how they can continue to help.
Sir Evendur certainly indulges in the revels but also makes a lengthy recount of the companions deeds to those who has the patience to listen, praising the bravery and resourcefulness of his companions every so often. Charisma check to tell a reasonably entertaining story:14
Later at the feast he gathers the companions and Governor Nighthill. "This was a victory and it should be celebrated as such, but the Cult of the Dragon has not been paused in it´s attempt to usher in the reign of Tiamat. We could go back to their hideout and prevent the stolen treasures from reaching that hoard of treasures the cult is amassing. We should be able to infiltrate those caves I believe. Or better yet, we could seek out Lennithon and slay the dragon in it´s lair. What do you say brave companions?" Evendur looks to the others with a fervor to serve mighty Torm .
Nighthill nods at Evendur's words, and says, "That is true. Perhaps you should head out and see what you can do to stop the cult. We can't have them completing their nefarious plan, or attacking more towns like ours. As for the dragon, I would caution against it. We have no idea where it went, and it is a dangerous creature. It caused many deaths."
OOC: You can decide when to leave. You could go now, in the morning, in two days when Evendur's armour is ready, or you could wait until Leosin is feeling better.
Kosef doubts that Leosin will be ready to go the next morning, and the monk needs time to heal. "I'm ready to leave as soon as the rest of us are," he says. They would die gloriously fighting a dragon. Slowing down a cult, or at least drawing it away from this town, while staying alive seem more likely.
(OOC: Would Leosin come with us if we waited? Evendur would have to be talked into waiting I think :-) Perhaps we should settle for investigating those caves then. Ready to go anyway)
"Other plans?" Kosef will ask Leosin. "What do you mean?" He did not necessarily think they would fight oath breakers together forever, but "other plans?" He looks at Kendes as well. Weren't the three of them and Valas and Evendur going to ruin the cult's plans together?
