At the far end of this chamber, you see that it exits into another narrow passageway that slopes down slightly. Small tunnels of water trickle down the gentle slope into the darkness from this “mush-room” where you’re currently standing.
"If anything lives behind those things, we don't want it coming out at us later." Vernon will advance to the passageway, entering when everyone is ready.
Belkas follows the others, dark energies still coursing through his body. He makes sure he watches the ceilings, floors, and walls as they proceed remembering that threats underground can come from any direction.
"Keep alert Crowley, especially for drow. The dark elves are experts at hiding in the darkness and strike when their victims are at their most vulnerable."
Once again, with Crowley and Vernon in the lead, followed by Arisa, Zyllith, Siobhan and Balkas, you leave the mush-room and begin walking slowly down narrow passageway, your feed plodding through the small trickles that cascade over the damp stones. The air here is musty and it becomes increasingly dank the further you go. The grade is gentle, so you're not really losing very much elevation, but you're definitely dropping somewhat further below the hilly bank that sat at the side of the river.
The air here is still and silent, and you don't see or hear anything as you descend gradually and walk about 50 feet down the dark passage. (How is Arisa seeing?) Then the passage suddenly opens up into a wider cavern, about 20 feet in both length and width, before exiting again on the other side. With the small water streams running into this chamber, its much wetter, and you can see that the dry areas of the floor are interspersed with a number of large puddles, each about 5 feet across.
Along the right edge of the chamber you see a narrow sloping ledge that traverses all the way across the chamber, at a hight of about 6 feet above the floor. Looking around, you don't see anything moving, and the only sound you hear is the occasional drip of water the drops down form the damp ceiling into one of the puddles.
Belkas examines the ledge, to see if it might make for a safer way to cross the room, or if it could even be some sort of creature disguised, or large mechanical trap.
There is nothing about the ledge that seems suspicious, it’s just a natural formation that was likely created through erosion. Given its narrow sloping nature, it would likely take a bit of agility to traverse across without falling off. However, it’s one were to fall, it’s only about a 6 foot drop back to the floor.
With Vernon out in front, you all follow behind in a single file line as he begins to lead you across the room, weaving his way between the puddles. The floor of the chamber is smooth and flat enough that your movement is straightforward, and you quickly make your way about halfway across the room, while easily avoiding the small pools of gray, brackish water.
Then suddenly, a brief glint of movement catches Arisa's eye, and Vernon's as well, his sense of perception magical enhanced by his shield. (Zyllith and Belkas do not notice the movement. Siobhan sees it too, but she is further back.) Apparently, something stirring in one of the puddles that are but inches from your feet as you pass by. The surface of the thick, sludgy liquid ripples in an odd way and begins to rise up, as if something is emerging from beneath.
As he's walking by one of the pools in the middle of the room, the brave gnome sees the movement of the corner of his eye and looks down to see the strange bulge begin to well up beneath the surface of the puddle that's closest to him.
Figuring that nothing good lives in dark puddles behind gnome-eating mushrooms, Vernon will ready an attack for whenever whatever it is comes out, calling "Stay down there!" in Common and then in Deep Speech.
Standing ready with his hammer, Vernon waits to see what it is that emerges from the puddle. However, nothing emerges... at least nothing that has a recognizable form. It's almost as if part of the oily, sludgy pool itself suddenly forms itself into a slimy pseudopod that lashes out towards the gnome like a five-foot long liquid snake.
He has but a second to react.
(Given this observation, I'll let you respond accordingly with your ready action, since you have the faster initiative. Let me know if that still involves attacking the pseudopod, or doing something else.)

Arisa proceeds right behind Vernon

Vernon will carefully walk between the puddles.

Vernon, what do you do?
Figuring that nothing good lives in dark puddles behind gnome-eating mushrooms, Vernon will ready an attack for whenever whatever it is comes out, calling "Stay down there!" in Common and then in Deep Speech.
Readied Warhammer Attack (on emerge): 10 + 5 = 15. Damage: 8 + 2 = 10.

Vernon will consider the pseudopod hostile and extremely dangerous, throwing on a Smite for good measure if he hits.
Smite Damage: 3 + 6 = 9 Radiant.
