Elfa strikes again with her Eldritch Blast before anyone could get to Thunderfist. Then runs in front of Thunderfist to protect him, this could be costly but Elfa was always thinking of others.
Thunderfist draws on the spirit and determination of his people, fighting through the agony of the open wound in his shoulder to fight off the blackness. His eyes snap open, back in the fight.
(OOC: Your Stone's Endurance reduced the incoming damage, but you were on 1hp before the attack so you are back to 1hp)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lei-Tana's fire bolt is deadly accurate and sears a scorch mark across the mimic's back (-6hp)
Elfa's eldritch blast fires high as she twists to encourage Diplomat over her shoulder. Her soft words encourage the beast to join the fight on behalf of their friends.
Diplomat initiative: 2
Diplomat immediately leaps into action and bounds across the chamber, on top of a barrel and swipes at the mimic, careful not to catch the badly wounded Thunderfist:
Bite Attack: 8 Damage: 7
Claws Attack: 8 Damage: 11
The bite misses, but his deadly bear claw rakes down the mimic's face(?) causing a grievous wound that has it staggering and nearly defeated.
The group all rain down a series of blows upon the mimic - Thunderfist’s axe, Cackie’s deadly hands and Elfa’s eldritch blast – and the creature cannot withstand such a barrage. Howling in pain, it rears back on two stumpy legs and unleashes an anguished scream before falling back to the floor.
It lies at your feet, not moving for a moment. Then it starts to hiss and sizzle, before tiny bubbles begin to appear and then the creature rapidly breaks down into a pool of fizzing sticky-looking liquid. Before your eyes the creature melts into nothing more than a dark, stinking puddle.
(Well done, you killed a mimic! Decide if you want to take a short rest for Thunderfist to regain some HP, or move on to the guard post to the south)
The mimic's skin must have had hallucinogenic properties as the moth that Thunderfist thought he was fighting faded away into what now looked like a giant mouth. He went to give a thumbs up to the unicorn who had been helping them only for it to be replaced by diplomat. The clown, however, did not disappear and began licking the dark puddle that was once the mimic.
"I need a nap" he said to the group, and with that he lay down on the floor and began snoring loudly.
(I have updated Thunderfist's HP but not touched anyone else's character sheets. Thunderfist is now out of rages, as they reset on a Long Rest, and he has no more hit dice for healing until a Long Rest is completed)
After taking about an hour to bind your wounds, recharge your internal energy or (naming no names) lick wasted wine from the floor, you set off to continue your search for a magical item or two that Harbin Wester can use to help defend Phandalin from the dragon.
After a short walk down a corridor south you come to a chamber around 20ft to a side.
Mist from the waterfall (to your west) dampens this empty cave, which has a 10-foot-high ledge overlooking it to the south. There is a passageway to the east that seems to curve south, you cannot see where it heads.
Two gnomes stand on the ledge looking over you — a female and a male. As you enter the cave, the female yells something in gnomish, followed by the male yelling “Who goes there? Are you shapechangers??” in Common.
Cackie nods and waves at the female, as if he understood what was said. He then introduces himself and the crew to the male and asks who they are and whether they know anything about magical items in Gnomengarde.
The gnomes look at each other questioningly and then back at you. The male speaks "Fibblestib and Dabbledob deal with all the gadgets, but we're not letting anyone past in case they're a darn shapeshifter. Been some disappearin's lately and we can't take the risk. You a shapeshifter?"
(OOC: Anyone trying to talk their way past the guards should post their response as well as the appropriate skill roll: Deception (for a lie), Persuasion (for an honest statement) or Intimidation (for a threat). Make two rolls and I will decide, based on the quality of your words, if you get Disadvantage or Advantage).
The little gnome considers your comments for a moment, turns to his companion and confers in a whisper, then addresses you: "You seem an honest type, blue elf, and we believe you. You may proceed over the bridge to your right. But look out for shapeshifters!"
You head across the rope bridge, the noise of the waterfall almost deafening. After a scary few minutes of teetering along the slippery wood, you emerge on the western side of the river on a ledge 20ft up, and climb a stone staircase up into the cave network on this side of the river.
This area is lightly obscured by mist from the waterfall. The larger eastern part of the room contains two rapidly spinning devices that look like turnstiles fitted with stacks of long, sharp blades spaced 1 foot apart. The northern turnstile spins counterclockwise, while the southern one spins clockwise. It looks like anyone stepping into the area covered by the blades would face almost certain death.
Set into the south wall of the smaller western part of the room, on the other side of the blades from where you stand, is a brass lever in the down position (red box on the map below).
Thunderfist uses his stone endurance to reduce the damage dealt by the moth. 13

Elfa couls see Diplomat quivering.

She communicates with him to calm him down.
Diplomat will be a warrior after this Elfa thought to herself
Lei-Tana casts firebolt at the Mimic this time....

Cackie kicks the mimic twice in the region that seemed most groin-like.
Attack: 7 Damage: 6

"Good boy Diplomat! I'm so proud of you"
Elfa attempts to get her aim sorted and uses her Eldritch Blast at the mimic.
Attack: 22 Damage: 12
"Whoaaaa look at Cackie go everyone" Elfa cheered loudly
Thunderfist gets his second wind and swings his axe again at the moth, this time saying "moth with his head"

Ok it's a short rest! Cackie can recover his Ki point, Lei-Tana can recover one spell slot and ThunderFist can recover 1d12+2 or 2d12+4 hit points.
Any questions about rests please ask in the WhatsApp chat 🙂

Lei-Tana always goes for honesty as the best policy....

"We are not shapeshifters, we've been sent on a quest to kill a dragon, and looking for magical tools that may help us" Lei-Tana directs at the gnomes

Elfa does a perception check to see if she can think of anything to stop the blades.
"Anyone got any ideas, this looks fun doesn't it" Elfa said with a smirk.
