"They might not be here, but the story these devil cultists are spreading is that the town speaker is sick and not seeing anyone," Maudath says to Ipkiss. "I think we're going to send you and the Professor on a bit of a wander to see if you can find where they're hiding them."
Ipkiss says, “Sounds fine by me… but maybe we can ask around a little too… ‘IF’ we find someone more sympathetic to our plans… That scared girl maybe?”.
"Look" Huarwar says exasperated "You'll need to ask Kadroth about those things. I dont know much about the big picture here. But I trust these people with my life and that's good enough for me. Now I have my duties to attend to. If you're here simply cause my mother sent you then you have your answer. Tell her that her son is dead"
Both Eve and Professor make a perception check for me please.
Eve smiles kindly and just nods slowly. In reality, she’s ‘thinking’ (silently and telepathically) to Ipkiss the following: ‘Get Maudath to cause a distraction, to lure this tiefling away. Nothing big, just a friendly chat? I need to speak with this boy alone!…’.
Invisible devil Ipkiss relays this to Maudath, just outside, in an whisper on his shoulder, “Eve needs to speak to the boy without prying eyes!… Can you lure the tiefling by the door away, for a few moments?…”.
Maudath frowns for a moment. "Nothing big?" he says to himself. "My distractions are always big."
He takes a couple of steps back to the door and taps the tiefling on the shoulder.
"You busy mate?" Maudath asks. "Want to show you something I saw from the wall. Those gray dwarves you lot are all on about, think I might have seen one. Or maybe it was just an old man with a load of fire wood. But I think you should take a look."
She looks your way for a moment before walking back over to Huarwar. "I think you all have the answers you need from him. We have our duties to go back to if you dont mind."
Maudath balls up his hands into fists and thinks about going back into the tower and dragging the tiefling outside, but Eve said 'nothing big'. So he turned back to the wall and stepped out where he was before and looks back down into the courtyard.
With Ipkiss's suggestion in his head, he looks around for anything resembling a servants entrance or quarters or a doorway into the kitchens.
Looking down into the courtyard you can see the 4 towers each have a door leading into them as well as a door on the upper walkway into each. The double main doors to the keep are opened and closed as various members go about their business and there is the little shack that sits to the right a ways from the main door. You can remember hearing barks coming from this little building as you entered and exited the main keep. Those are the only door you can see.
Eve sees the distraction attempt and the Professor take his leave. Still smiling, she says to the boy, “It’s good to see you well. Master Huarwar“, she says with a polite half-bow-half-curtsy, and she leaves to the courtyard too.
"That one needs to be taught a lesson or two," Maudath says, nodding his head back to the tower.
He then plows through the snow and leads the way back down the stairs to the courtyard.
"Your invisible devil suggested we trying having a wee chat with the servant girl again," Maudath adds. "If we can catch her alone she might tell us what's really going on. But she's such a timid thing that all of us barging in might rattle her too much."
Maudath looks at the big doors and then over at what must be dog kennels.
"We could go look for the kitchen and if she's there, maybe just Eve and the Professor talk to her," he says. "At the very least she might be able to tell us where the townspeaker is."
Maudath smiles at Eve and the thought of some dessert.
He goes to the main doors and opens them, holding them open for the others to enter. If the timid servant girl isn't in the main room, he heads to the kitchen, or at least whatever door looks like it heads to the kitchen based on where food came from before.
As they walk, the Professor is taking note of the layout, as well as where/if there will be good, snow cleared places to traipse if he goes on an invisible scouting mission later.
