Ressys moves across the breach, placing every hand and foot with expert efficiency. He lands softly on the dry bank, belying his size, as the others set about scouting the room.
Brandon finds nothing of value among the rubble and debris, although Qidira manages to find a good spot to see straight into the water, avoiding any glare or reflection.
Embedded within a patch of kelp in the centre of the flooded area, the little gnome sees a stone chest. Surrounding it are four giant crabs, their rough shells giving the impression of immobile stone.
"I see something!" Qidira whispers urgently to the others, though after all this time isn't sure why she's whispering. "See it? There's a stone chest embedded in the kelp in the centre of the flooded area. Four giant crabs surround it though. I'm not sure if they are living or dead, they look like immobile stone." She points to give direction and adds, "If you stand where I am, you can avoid both the reflection of the water and the glare."
Once they've seen where she's standing, she approaches the edge of the water, watching to see if there is any change in the position of the crabs drawing her crossbow quietly readying a bolt to fire if they move to attack her.
The dwarf walks up next to Qidira and peers into the water. “Yes, I see what you mean. Do we take the risk to have someone go in after the chest? I’m not much of a swimmer and the water is too cold for me but, Kotar, what do you think? Of all of us you seem able to withstand the cold best.”
“I think the cold should not affect me negatively.” Kotar said starting to put down his bag and shield. Considering the chest was made of stone, the goliath half expect to be necessary using both hands. “Someone have a shortsword?”
He asked conscious that his longer blade would work poorly underwater. He also considered to bring out rope so if an attack happened he could pull himself back to land, but he was not sure there was a place to tie the hope that would safely endure the tension of his pull combined to his weight and the weight of the chest. There was the option of asking the others to hold the rope, but the fighter could imagine himself pulling them into the water and that would be disastrous.
“Just one thing: won’t we be going against what the beast told us by diving here?”Kotar asked just before jumping on the water. “I mean, there is a chance this is the cure so sooner or later I will need to go there, but I need to know everyone is in agreement about me doing that now.”
Looking at his companions the goliath waited for their answers. If they agreed with examining the chest now then he would jump on.
“While I don’t want to go out of our way to antagonize creatures, we may need to risk it in this case. The other chest like that had more of the spores in it so it should be checked.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"These may be the creatures that allowed us to cross to this room but warned us to stay out of the water." Ressys says, his ears lying flat on his head. "Perhaps I can persuade them to allow us to collect the chest."
Moving up next to Kotar Ressys looks down into the water.
In the same strange guttural language he speaks to the beasts
We are in need of that chest, or at least perhaps its contents. May we get it? We can return the chest to the waters if you use it. We only want what may be in the chest.
Brandon moves to stand next to Durnham and the others, searching to pick out the chest and the crabs in the water. “Durnham is right, it must be checked. This used to be a lab. That could contain the cure we are searching for.” He waits to see if Ressys has any luck communicating with the crabs and helps Kotar prepare to enter the water. “No shortsword, but you can take my handaxe if it will help you.” He offers it to the fighter.
“Sorry Kotar, no swords on me. There’s the dagger, would that work?” Durnham genuinely doesn’t know much about different weapons. He knows some are bigger than others, and some are sharp, while others are bulky and more blunt… and that’s about it.
“Thank you, Brandon, but to land folk like us it is harder to fight underwater with a melee weapon that is not spear-like or with more length than a shortsword.” He said to the warlock just a moment before the wizard offered a dagger. “I may have learned this the hard way.” A young goliath trying to fish with blades simply because no one else good. A feat worth of a name, he believed before failing miserably at each attempt. The worse one was made a bow. The arrows barely traveled after release. “But a dagger will work as normal.” Not that it was a good tool for fishing, but Kotar decided to keep this fact to himself.“Now I will just take some distance…”
He retreated then started running and just before reaching the water made a long jump into the lake. Waiting not even to see how the crabs reacted, if they reacted at all, he started swimming in the direction of the chest. As fast as his arms and legs could allow. A swimming dash, so to speak, made, if necessary. His intent centered in at least trying to open the lid. Let it be the cure, he wished with a good share of doubt. All or nothing.
Qidira lowers her crossbow and passes the Aeorian dagger over to Kotar, "Use this one, if you don't intend to throw it. I'm not sure Durnham would appreciate its loss."
Then raises the crossbow again and hopes that the bolts with move through the water with some more ease than an arrow. Again readied
Brandon watches Kotar jump in the water and prepares to defend him if necessary. Dark shadows and green energy swirl around his hand as he makes ready an Eldritch Blast that he will release at any crab attacking Kotar.
Durnham noticed the others readying themselves and points the wand at the crabs. He readies the action to use a charge of the wand to cast magic middle.
As soon as Kotar enters the water the four crabs burst into action. They scutter towards the goliath, prompting a volley of overwatch attacks from his friends.
Brandon's eldritch blast seems to be refracted by the water and is ineffective.
Qidira looses her bolt (please roll to attack) while Durnham launches missiles from his wand (please roll damage)
(Everyone roll initiative; the readied actions all happened before the first round of combat)
The wand tip glows as Durnham releases a charge at the first crab closest to Kotar. Three blue arrows manifest and fly into the water and strike the crab for 2, 3, and 3 damages.

Brandon lets out a curse as the crabs move toward Kotar and his blast is deflected by the water. He lets a warning shout die in his throat, knowing that the goliath will not hear him under water. Instead he stands at the shoreline, looking for an opening to attack. Initiative: 10.
