Daventry and Triäsa settle into their watch and the hours pass quickly for them. You each can appreciate the restlessness in your companions as they toss and turn troubled by whatever is haunting their sleep. Before each of you know it the sun is rising through the clouds while not piercing sunlight you the veil of darkness is lifting and a new day has dawned.
To everyone sleeping:
As your dreams continue, the ground at your back opens up and you begin to fall helplessly through the cold earth. You fall and fall and fall and suddenly you find yourself suspended in the deepest, darkest blackness. Tiny dots of light are suspended around you. You float in nothingness gasping for air that won't come. As the terror and panic sets in you feel a terrible, horrible presence behind you. Against your will your body turns, slowly you face the presence. What you see is indescribable, a strange and horrid monstrosity hangs in the darkness. As your eyes lay on it it grows exponentially, a mass of pseudopods and fields of colorful cosmic energy. Maybe it's a star but in the center you see something that appears to be.... an eye? The eye gazes on you, you can tell it care nothing for you it barely recognizes your pitiful existence. As you look at it your mind bends the sheer sight of the creature and it's strangeness causes a pressure to build in your body. It builds and builds and the pain is incomprehensible. You see red your eyes bulging out of your head, blood starts pouring from your eyes and ears. You beg for death for it all to end but the agony continues... and then mercifully your mind breaks and seconds later your head explodes...
You're awake. No harm has come to you but the feeling, the unease of the dream and the strange star or creature lodged in your mind. Just thinking about it brings you pain but here you are "safe" in Vermeillon.
DC13 Wisdom Save for sleeping in Vermeillon. On a fail you take one level of exhaustion and do not get the benefit of a long rest. On a pass you feel tired and disturb but suffer no consequences

"We should work quickly today," Pardot says as he packs up his sleeping pad, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "The more time we spend here the more the... whatever that is... will impact us. Even in our sleep. Maybe our guide was right to stay back."
((was he waiting for us to go back down? Or did he just head back once he got us here?))
"Yea, wish we knew how to track... whatever this is. Harmless illusions, someone said?" Looking incredibly tired, Triäsa stares a bit blankly over at Ludolf. "Do we just go to the mines?"
Daventry looks like she'd been on an all night bender, with bags under her eyes and a sour disposition. "I call bullshit on illusions. Whatever these things are, they're creepy and piss me off. If there are any other buildings that look like they contain half a clue, let's check them out on the way to the mine. Hopefully some answer'll be there."

All you know is he got to the top of the mountain, just outside of town and sat down next to a rock and started smoking. He seemed to indicate he would wait there for you.

As he wakes up after a fitful sleep Ludolf looks a bit harrowed, but also curious over what he witnessed in his dream. Arcana to identify the entity in his dream: 25 "The creatures sending the nightmares that we all seems to have had are very real Triäsa." Ludolf starts and then he extensively briefs Triäsa and Daventry on his findings regarding Meenlocks. "I think everything points to Meenlocks being our assailants and the cause of all this, and I'm convinced that we will find their nest in that mine. We should go there immediately. Any stragglers in the village will have to wait." He suggests while readying himself for a trek to the mine.
"Sounds like a plan." Daventry puts the bugbear toy back on her belt and summons her rapier to her hand from where it rested across the room.
"Shall we?"
As they make the trek, Daventry notes, "Twas probably an armory, with a platinum mine and moneyed country folk needing defense from brigands. Keep an eye out, yeah?"
"The town is not likely the source,"Pardot says, adding quietly, "And we cannot stay here while we're being hunted in our sleep." Packing up his gear he takes a step towards the door and adds, "Shall we? Maybe day is safer, even if it's dark in the mine."
The town is eerily quiet as you all set out and leave the mayor's mansion. You notice a 6 or so ravens circling the sky and another 3 or 4 perching themselves on the barren trees overlooking the ruins of the city. You follow the road to the northeast where Edgar has previously identified where the mine would be located. On the way out of town you do not see any new buildings or areas of interest save an abandon mine cart sitting broken along the road.
Walking on for another 20 minutes or so you come to the mine. A gaping hole in the mountainside northeast of the village marks the entrance to the platinum mine. More ravens sit along entrance, squawking as you approach. Several carts sit outside the cavern. One is filled with rock and dirt pulled from the mine, the others piled with large beams of wood—new supports that were never installed after the collapse. As you look toward the entry you see it is dark and damp. You hear the sound of dripping water echoing from deep within. When you enter you find the light fades faster than it should as you move deeper, until you’re wrapped in oppressive gloom and shadow.
(Feel free to do anything else along the way but seemed like everyone was ready to head over to the mine)

"Friends of Edgar's?" Daventry asks Ludolf, nodding towards the conspiracy of ravens. "Don't suppose he can go have a chat, bird-a-bird?"
As she first steps into the mine, Daventry awashes her sword with starlight, and holds the blade high to light the way. "Not much for sneakin' when we'd be bumbling in the dark."

As they enter the cave, though some have created their own light, Pardot knows it’s not safe to be caught unprepared, and reaches his right hand up to his temple as his eyes begin to give off a dim, deep, purple glow. As the darkness takes on a new light to him, he also knows that he must be on full alert, and after the night before, feels inspired to ensure he misses nothing. Taking a deep breath he focuses his senses on everything around him ((18)).
"Don't think they can communicate much but Pardot might get something useful out of them." Ludolf suggests. "And no, we can't expect to surprise these creatures of fear and darkness I'm afraid." He adds to Daventry. Ludolf suggests that they go in with Daventry first, followed by Klin, himself, Triäsa and Pardot in that order. He offers to carry a light source if anyone has one to offer.
Hearing the others talk as he looks around, Pardot quietly adds, “Today I will not be able to speak with animals. After my dreams last night I prepared protection and restoration magic. Though will only be able to the do the latter once… Hopefully it will not be needed.”

(I will change the token order to Ludolf's suggestion on the next map. I just missed it while I was fiddling with these. On the subject of maps... If you all don't like this layout let me know thought I would try something a bit different might add to some atmosphere. The dynamic light feature on Fantasy Grounds is pretty neat. Everything is as viewed from Daventry's perspective.)
Entering the mine you immediately get an ill feeling. This place is not right. The darkness is too dark. The cold is too cold. The dampness is too damp. You shiver as the air bites your flesh and drops of cold cave water fall on your head. After about 100 feet of travel the real strangeness begins.
Voices, whispers surround you. The mumblings seem to be warnings. Turn Back, Death. they whisper. Some of the voices then shift and start to sound sinister in as they extend you an invitation. Join us. Become the Darkness. Be the fear. The whispers are soon joined by dancing figures in the shadows bounding in and out of the starlight. Shadows of children moving spastically are projected onto the walls as light dances. The shadows of children are shortly joined by strange creatures with claws. The clawed shadows chase the children along the walls ripping them limb from limb when they are caught. The remains of the shadow children then morph into more monsters and chase others.
The morbid scene and sounds follows you as walk through the cave. Screams of children mixed with the whispers haunt your every movement in a cacophony of madness.
DC14 Wisdom Saving Throw on a fail you are too distracted by the voices and shadows and have disadvantage on all intelligence and wisdom checks while in the mine.
