Triäsa tries to give Ludolf a couple minutes explanation of her research that led to her ability. But it probably does not come close to fully explaining it. "Back at Candlekeep I can show you some of the books. And a few more notes. If you want."
She quickly agrees to help Ludolf with his ritual. When Edgar comes to perch on her shoulder she smiles happily. "Such a smart bird you are. I might have to think twice before I would perch on Ludolf myself!" she says jokingly.
As Pardot continues theorizing, Daventry looks a bit overwhelmed by the idea he's insinuating. "I'm just a nobody from a backwater muck farm who got lucky once with an eavesdrop and a lockpick. It has to just be a strange coincidence... What are the odds that one of long-gone Fistandia's favorite stars is... or was... the one which has now blinked away?"
You spend your free time reading Castanamir’s Guide to Gingwatzims and while it is not a long book it takes you a surprisingly long time to finish and understand. Late the night before you arrive back in Candlekeep you finish the tome and you learn quite a bit about the little aberrations you have encountered. It seems they are created via a ritual and called into existence from the ethereal plane. As they are created from energy of the ethereal plane they need to be sustained on some source of energy to remain in existence. They obey their creator without question as they are not terribly intelligent. They can assume a total of three forms; one is always some sort of simple object which it becomes an exact copy of. The object is set at creation of the Gingwatzim and can not be changed. The creator chooses the object which is used in the ritual but is not consumed. The second is it's true form, the ball of energy and slime that is able to feed, it can only feed in this form. The third is that of a small animal. As Ludolf predicted the ritual is missing from the book. There is no indication who Castanamir, the book is written very matter of objectively and reads like a text book or encyclopedia.
After five days of travel and peace you arrive back at Candlekeep a feeling of deja vu washes over you as the road leads you back to the gates of the library. Your horses and cart pull up to the stable just outside the keep. A father and son, Braun and Billy take the ropes and help you get the animals settled. When they see your broaches from Bookwyrm they get very excited and offer to care and shelter your animals free of charge as a favor to the First Reader. They seem like good, simple folk.
Once the horses and wagon are cared for you make your way to the gates after negotiating the crowd that has gathered for the day. Klin's dwarven friend "Barley breath" is there with a stack of well read tomes eagerly awaiting his opportunity to approach the gates. It does not seem like he sees you all as he appears, very drunk. There is an Avowed at the gates you do not know but as you approach and show your broaches the gates swing wide and your return to Candlekeep is complete. There is a bit of a gasp and mummer in the crowd as you walk in without paying tribute.
Standing in the Court of Air there is a sense of calm and serenity. It's a sunny, warm early summer day. You have a sack of books and pouches of gold.
During the rest of the journey to Candlekeep Ludolf would spend the days in the wagon reading books starting with The Hunger now, Edgar staying by his side, although when bored he flies over to Triäsa, hoping for better company. If given the chance Ludolf would one evening show Triäsa the pocket-plane he learned how to create.
"It seems you are not a murderer after all." Ludolf says to Klin as they spot "Barley breath". Ludolf can't help but enjoy walking past the line into Candlekeep.
"We should report to Bookwyrm." Ludolf says as they stand in the Court of Air.
The second day of travel, Daventry will seem distracted, as if some idea is nagging at her mind. That midnight, during her watch alone, she will take out the Tome, and lay both her blades, the rapier and the silver dagger, in front of her as she sits cross-legged. She opens the tome with one hand, and begins a long casting herself... Over the course of two hours she quietly infuses each blade with bright energy. At the end of her ritual, several runes of the same language as the Tome glow on both sides of each blade, not etched into the metal but instead as light that adheres to the blade itself.
She raises her hand high, and the dagger at her feet disintegrates into a thousand blue and white specks of light, which swirl up and around her hand before reforming the blade perfectly in her grip. She releases it a moment, and the blade hangs precisely where she left it, before she grips the blade once again.
Anyone who was awake to see this notes Daventry with an ear to ear grin.
Over the fourth day, Daventry will ask Klin about his book, noting how complete it's beginning to look, and perhaps asks if he'll read a few chapters.
Once in Candlekeep, Daventry breathes deep. "Home, as it were and might be." To the rest, "Well, we shouldn't keep the First Reader waiting. Let's see if we get a message to him and Fembris that we've returned."
Triäsa too is a small bit pleased to be able to pass by the entrance. For the briefest of moments she considered lending the dwarf one of the new books they found, to allow him his desired entrance to Candlekeep. But noting his drunken state, she decides better of that.
In the Court of Air Triäsa agrees with Ludolf. "We should head to the Hearth and see if we can let Fembris - and Bookwyrm - know of our return. I do think we still need to figure out where the other two Gingwatzims went. According to Castanamir, they also have a form of a small animal. Perhaps that is how they hid after draining their victims."
With a purpose the group walks toward the Hearth. As the doors swing open you greeted by the familiar smell of seafood bisque, ale and wine. There is song and laughter, the Hearth is very busy this afternoon. You quickly spot Fembris sitting at your usual table in the center of the room. Interestingly, she is not alone as she is sitting with halfling male who looks mildly familiar.
She notices you all walk in she and grins widely, stands up on her chair and starts waving both hands yelling above the music, "Dav! Tri! Mr. Ludolf! Klin! Pardot! Everyone over here!!"She seems very excited to see you. Assuming you greet her she would ask emphatically, "SO did you figure it out!? Do you know where those things come from!? Bookwyrm is going to be so impressed! I think he is upstairs he has been spending alot of time here lately, kind of unusual but its great to have such an important person here at the Hearth! I want to hear all about it! Don't spare a single wonderful detail."She takes a sip of milk and look at Daventry, "Oh I LOVE your hat!! You think I would look good in one?! Do they have any sizes for folks like me?!"

"Hello Fembris!" Triäsa calls out to the gnome. "What a welcome! We did indeed find those responsible for the Gingwatzims. And I have been reading up on them."
She stops a moment, glancing at the halfling sitting with Fembris. "And who might this be? Fembris, have you added members to your investigation team while we were away?"
As Fembris mentions her hat, Daventry plops it onto Fembris. "Bit big, but you could definitely pull off the style! Maybe with a bright purple ribbon?"She lets Fembris show off the hat a moment before eventually taking it back.
Daventry picks up on Triäsa's comment, and gives the gnome a waggle of the eyebrow and a wink. "Or is he more than just an investigative partner, eh Fembris?"
Is that the same halfling who's room we burst into before we left?
"Seems like these soul-suckers were part of a deep con out of Baldur's Gate... a thrilling tale involving lycanthropes, sword battles in the dead of night, book-chucks, you name it!"
The hat falls over her eyes but Fembris will not be deterred! She proudly twirls on her chair and curtsies before giving the hat back, "Splendid! I will have to have one sent down! Maybe that could be part of our uniform...."She seems to ponder this for a moment until questions about her company snap her back to the moment.
Fembris turns a bit red at Triäsa and Daventry's questions and starts stumbling over her words, "Who him? He's nobody (the halfling goes pale) NO NOT NOBODY,sorry Davy. Just not part of our team. You met him. Briefly. Just before you left. Remember that time we kicked in doors in the name of the CIA trying to root out evil doers?! Well turns out, Davy here is innocent! I felt bad for scaring him so we have been having dinner together while you all were away. Say Hi to my friends and fellow CIA members Davy!"
Davy says hi.
Fembris looks out of breath. They both look very awkward and very red.

"Hi Davy. I'm Daventry. Nice name!" Daventry's grin is absolutely wicked. "I think Fembris's doing her best tomato impression right now, but glad you two have become dinner friends, and she could clear your name from the great Mint Theft!"
Triäsa gives a light laugh as Fembris introduces the halfling. "Oh yes! The one with no pants!" She smiles, looking at Daventry. "It is a very fine tomato impression, really."
She then continues, still smiling but sounding a bit more serious - and giving Fembris some relief from the teasing. "So other than solving the Mint Theft issue, has there been any other problems while we were away? The Gingwatzims didn't attack anyone else?"
Ludolf follows the others into the Hearth. When there he let's Daventry and Triäsa do the talking, notably making no sly remarks about Fembris company although having an excellent opportunity to. As a matter of fact, he seems more and more content with the others around him, already looking forward to any new assignments they may get. "Yes, ladies, perhaps we should leave Fembris and Davy now, we have a report to deliver to Bookwyrm. I'm sure he will be able to inform us on any new mysteries in Candlekeep." Ludolf says, but you get the sense that he is really trying to save Fembris from this embarrasing situation.
Fembris looks to Ludolf with a sense of tremendous relief and thanks. "Yes as usual Mr Ludolf is right! Let's get you up to report to Bookwyrm!" She quickly hops off her chair and gives Davy a kiss on the cheek then goes wide eyed realizing what she had done in front of you. "Right... Let's go...." She runs very quickly upstairs knocking on the door to the pocket office. Davy looks a bit lost as he sits in front of his bowl of seafood soup.
The door swings open and Bookwyrm sits behind his great desk but interestingly he is also not alone. Matreous looking well and rested is standing with him as they both are looking at a tome you have seen before, The Joy of Extradimensional Spaces. Seeing you enter they both smile warmly as the First Reader welcomes you, "Welcome back my dear Seekers! Judging by the speed of your return I hope you have met with success. Tell me were you able to discover the source of the aberrations and recover our books?"
Ludolf nods and follows Fembris, turning quickly and discreetly to Davy giving him a smile and a thumbs up.
"Thank you First Reader, it is good to be back. Thanks to the bravery and resourcefulness of my asociates I would say the mission to Baldur's Gate has been successful indeed. Our investigations in Candlekeep led us to a bookshop in the Wide where we found out the proprietors were selling more forgeries of the three books in question. We tracked the culprits to their lair where it turned out they were in fact Jackalweres summoning these Gingwatzims to turn into valuable books in order to sell them to gather 1 000 pieces of gold, likely to be able to ressurect someone or something whose heart we now have in our possession. Obviously we tried to negotiate for the books but to no avail. We have however with us back the three books we were searching for along with three other books, one of which offers knowledge on these Gingwatzims. I believe our valued Triäsa will be able to expand on that subject." Ludolf finishes with a proud smile glancing over at the young half-elven bard.
Following Fembris on the way to Bookwyrm's office, Daventry gives Triäsa an elbow and whispers. "That might have been the cutest exchange these eyes have ever seen."
Once in the room with Bookwyrm, Daventry adds: "On the matter, we were forced to take down the weres... they did not accept our terms of surrender, and fought us down to the last beast. Sadly none of them lived to be questioned, but one did mention a name of the summoner they learned from: Nidalia."
