The letter is sealed, but as you pry it from the skeletons hands, you open it and read it...
My most pathetic servant,
I am not a messiah sent to you by the Dark Powers of this land. I have not come to lead you on a path to immortality. However many souls you have bled on your hidden altar, however many visitors you have tortured in your dungeon, know that you are not the ones who brought me to this beautiful land. You are but worms writhing in my earth.
You say that you are cursed, your fortunes spent. You abandoned love for madness, took solace in the bosom of another woman, and sired a stillborn son. Cursed by darkness? Of that I have no doubt. Save you from your wretchedness? I think not. I much prefer you as you are.
"Well, quite the pleasant note," Janek says flatly - maybe he's being sarcastic? He shows it to anyone else interested. "This fellow might be happier as a skeleton. Who's Strahd von Zarovich?"
Having retrieved the letter, Janek tries to peek into the chest to see if he can see anything about the contents. Aside from the skeleton of course. He'll give the thing one more quick look and try to push the lid of the chest open if necessary. (I'm presuming it is cracked open due to the skeleton.) He does stand more to the side of the chest, not in front of it when he does that though. Just in case.
((Perception to peer inside: 13, Investigation to make sure one more time there are no traps: 4))
Vorser takes a look at the note passed out by Janek. “Never heard of this Strahd character, does not sound like someone you want to cross, have you heard of them Elysis? You seem to know more of this area than us. Do you think this letter was for the owners of the house? It there may be something more sinister hidden in here somewhere with that talk of alters and torture.”
"From what I know, he is the lord of Barovia, or the tyrant of it... Even though I have been here more, it is quite difficult to have a conversation with the people of the village... This letter could be addressed to the owners of this house, but I can not be sure about it..."
Sigh
Elysis looked into the room quickly, just to be sure. Nothing seemed to get her attention, so she just lean on one of the shelves.
Durant listens to the group's conversation, "Doesn't sound like someone I'd like to run into. Especially if this is how he treats his help." pointing to the letter that Janek found.
He would look over the skeleton and say a prayer to Ilmater to ensure this one has passed on to the afterlife, not leaving it's spirit trapped in this form. (Religion 6)
Hoping that they don't have to encounter this possible spirit later, he finishes his prayer and rises to join the group, "I'm not liking the references in the note there. Seems like this place has fallen to the darkness. Let's clear this place sooner than later."
Janek pulls the books, papers, and scrolls out of the chest. "One of you guys want to take a look at these?" He holds out the scrolls then takes a quick look at the will.
"Perhaps clearing the darkness from the house will be the key to our escape as well." Vorser takes a look at the scolls handed out by Janek unable to make any sense of them holds them out for someone else to have a look "Durant, Ignatia perhaps these would be more useful to you."
"Is there anything left here or should we move on?" spotting Ignatia sitting on the floor in the secret room "Perhaps you would be more comfortable on one of the chairs in the other room Ignatia, rather than on the floor?"
As you look over the will, you see that it is signed by Gustav and Elisabeth Durst and bequeathes the house, the windmill, and all other family property to Rosavalda and Thornboldt Durst in the event of their parents’ deaths. ((Give me a history check))

Janek;
The chest contains three blank books with black leather covers, three spell scrolls (bless, protection from poison, and spiritual weapon), the deed to the house, the deed to a windmill, and a signed will.
Durant;
((Are you looking to get guidance from Ilmater, on the status of the Skeletons spirit?))

(I was hoping to get a status of the skeleton's spirit, but my roll sucked lol. We can just say it was a prayer in general)
Durant;
As you make your prayer, Ilmater is silent. You are unsure on the status of the spirit, but you pray that they make it out of limbo.

Overhearing Durant, Elysis looks at him for an instant.
"And after that? You won't even be able to get back home..."
Oblivious to the others and their sudden status as property owners, Ignatia continues reading.....

The names don't ring any bells, however, you can assume that the will is for the family that lived in this house.

Durant accepts the scrolls handed to him, then turns to Ignatia, "You want any of these? I'm happy to use what's left if you want one or more."
"Vorser is right, we'll have to keep going to earn our escape from this place. May we be swift"

Ignatia looked up, " I'm fine. I could use some notebooks....those scrolls aren't much use to me."
