Eider sends runners throughout the congregating peoples carrying the following message:
(OOC: The first match of all level 3 characters will start tommorow at noon. Anyone who'd like to join please roll initiative. You have time to prep prior, but this time there will also be a 10 minute break before the fight. This is to negate the stacking of buffs/spells. Ie: Mage armor and false life still work. But mirror image + haste + freedom of movement + crown of stars will not be allowed. If this ruling hits casters a bit too hard I will be open to reversing it. For now though it's in play.)
(Are we still able to assume we'd know ahead of time when matches will be and use long spells like Mage Armor and have a short rest before the match actually starts to save the spell slot? Or that we just keep it active all the time anyway)
Sha'kar perks up at the news of a new coliseum match.
A woman crests a hill overlooking the ruined town, her blonde hair whipping around her head in the breeze. A young man runs up beside her, breathing heavily but attempting to remain dignified. A rapier dangles awkwardly from his belt and he holds a leatherbound notebook.
"Well, Horatio, this isn't quite what I expected." The woman says, in a hard voice. "Oh well, the mission is the mission." She's wearing a gleaming breastplate over silver and red livery, but carries no weapons. A few moments later, a small cart appears beside them, pulled by two halflings. “Ah, Gertrude. Give Horatio the banner, will you?” The halfling woman takes the cover off the cart, revealing an assortment of supplies and weapons. She takes out a long pole with a roll of cloth around it and hands it to the young man. He unfurls the cloth, revealing a silver unicorn rampant on a red field. He holds it aloft so anyone watching them sees it.
The small band marches proudly into town, their expensive clothes contrasting with their surroundings. Their leader hails the first villager they come across. “You there, peasant! Tell me, where can I find the lord of this town?” The villager shrugs vaguely in the direction of Eider’s school, then goes about their business. The woman turns to the boy and says, in a lowered voice “It seems the peasants around here don’t know a noble lady when they see one. Oh well, I’m sure that can be fixed.” She resumes her march, with Horatio and the halflings following behind. “Horatio, go and announce my presence.” Horatio answers quickly. “Yes, my lady.”
Once they reach the school, Horatio looks around for someone who seems important. He nervously approaches them. “Excuse me, could you please inform the lord of this place that my lady, a knight of the Order of the Unicorn,” he gestures uncertainly to the banner he’s holding, “would like to speak with him?”
(OOC: If anyone wants to be this “important person”, feel free to jump in. Otherwise, we’ll assume it’s some NPC and I’ll go straight to Eider, if he’s willing to RP.)

Eldin looks at the note and reads it. He turns to Grianne who also has a note and says, "Well... looks like the Coliseum is back again. That's my chance to recoup my losses. So what about you? Are you going to join in the fight?"
Grianne takes a bit longer to read her note. After carefully going over the letters and understanding most of the words she replys. I need to recover my power. I just hope I am not late. Eider has an early start time and I'm tired from surviving and...what would you call what happened earlier today at the old Coliseum?

(OOC: If my understanding is correct, spells such as shield of faith cannot be cast in prep since their duration is 10 minutes or less.)

Eldin nods and says, "Yeah I understand. I don't really know a good word for what happened earlier except for "Disaster"." He steps closer and lightly kisses Grianne and says, "I'll see you later then."
(@EliteHatter: What I do not get is what's preventing folk from waiting until the last minute of the alotted prep time to cast a single buff? If its prevent stacking buffs that don't have an hour or more duration, why not make it 'you have one round' to prepare? With the hour or so longer buffs being stuff done at some prior point before entering.)

(Honestly that would have the same effect. As to the reason, I dodnt think of that. Full disclosure. If everyone is ok with it, as the battle has not yet started, you may all just cast 1 spell before the battle. 1 action or bonus action duration. Ty Orelio for the input.)

(Honestly this does sound better. It limits stacking buff spells to only one to cast as an action before battle and doesn't prevent anyone from actually having the more powerful spells before battle. That said, I'm going to have Eldin cast a spell after I take another good look at my teammates.)
(Also it prevents the game from slowing down and helps give us the same info as our characters if you roll your saves and take your reactions as soon as possible instead of waiting until the end of the round. For example, Justine would have known that Dreadwood would have fire resistance by the time it got to her turn, which may have changed her action.)
(Not necessarily sure if this per se would be better than a third channel for things like this, but... in response to the OOC chatter in the arena)
(@Futuristic_kf: I did take it as soon as possible. I cannot be online 24/7 any more than EliteHatter or anyone else. In an idealistic world, yes. But unless we were to do away with all reaction type things, I just don't see it happening. Also, I could see your argument in a better light in regards to someone using something like shield or fireball against an already proc'ed absorb elements, but... he did something that -- regardless of damage resisted the first turn -- would have an ongoing consequences. Because now Dread has 2 people that need to lose concentration to get out of it. Nevermind the damage was low this time, and you're asking for a potential re-roll of another source damage to avoid the consequences of it.)
(Now, if it was illegal in the first place to target the same object with a same spell(assuming the full armor doesn't count as one object for the purpose the spell anyways), then sure. You'd get no sass for me. But as it stands... feels kinda shady.)
(@Random: It's a 2 foot high wall and he isn't a small race. At most, he could've gained a cover bonus against, but it can technically be angled or loosed in such a way as to still hit, I would think.)

"As of now I have no solid answers. I do know it takes great power to call a calamity like that down. Short of an act of outright Divinity not many creatures are powerful enough to bring that much destruction to bare. Even more concerning was a lack of any presence. No invasion, looting, kidnappings, there was just destruction and then silence.. Lack of motive is ironically a blessing, but also a great hindrance." Eider looks Hammond over and nods "We'll do what we can to prepare for something like this again. I will not allow such powers to ruin the lives of those who cannot protect themselves."
