Arc, Effulgynand Ferg walk over to where Parsonheard some rustling noises and peek into the greenery there. Aside from a few old trees, some vines, and some brambles, all appears to be quiet...until Arc notices that there is a wave of roots growing quickly toward his feet and that three objects he assumed were trees are seeming to move forward in a loping, bipedal way with gnarled, sticklike fingers outstretched.
Meanwhile, some shrubs come to life behind Fin and it is clear that the party is under siege. Map is here, each square is 5 feet.

"Anybody else getting attacked by trees over there? Don't skimp on the fire!" Fin pauses for a breath or two to better assess what exactly these things are.

Arcgets a jump on the creatures responsible for the growing swath of vines now creeping closer to he and his two companions. The creatures are now labeled A through G, with creature A closest to you, Arc.
The vines squeal, if with emotion or with heat, you can't tell. But they don't catch fire--unlike the creatures near Fin, these vines are wet enough to be difficult to ignite.
After a second, a vine comes back near Arc'sfoot, as others approach Fergand Effulgyn. The terrain is now difficult and I'll need all three of you to make a DC 12 strength saving throw.

‘Oh no!,’ thinks Effulgyn, ‘they’re tryin to grab me! And they’re holdin on strong! But now I’ve seen Fin in action, I know that half the battle’s feelin strong and brave! C’mon Ginnie, jump!,’ and using his inspiration die, inspired by his brave friend, Effulgyn rolls his worst characteristic save with advantage: Strength 16
Arc is able to step away from the creeping vines, but in doing so, is attacked by the being that has taken a humanoid shape, roughly 6 feet tall reaching toward him with green sinewy arms that look like they're literally made of different plants. The creature narrowly misses, but vines overtake Fergand Effulgyn, who find themselves grappled, with vines climbing up their legs and torsos, pressing into their chests and making it hard to breathe.
(OOC While Effulgynand Ferg take no damage at the moment, they must use their next turns to make a DC 12 strength save, or be constricted. Also note that the ground in a 15 foot radius from each of the creatures is now considered difficult terrain, meaning the movement is halved for all three PCs. There is no change to the battle map and it is now Ferg's turn.)
Ferg ignores the vines and instead of trying to escape he will cast the sleep spell in a way that it hits the three creatures attacking him and Effulgyn. "If I succeed in putting these creatures to sleep then don't attack them, it will wake them up!"
Ferghad the foresight to grab his components pouch from his belt so as the vines climb and leave his arms free, he is able to throw a pinch of salt at them and, along with some muttering, manages to put the creature that Archad attacked with fire asleep. The vines near Arcgo slack and stop moving toward him but Ferg (and Effulgyn) remain bound.
OOC point one: how the spell works is that if the sleeping creature takes damage, they will wake up so note that the creature now asleep is Creature A.
OOC point two: the other creatures are now up, I'll post their move later in case there is a reaction to how this ended up that needs to be resolved.

The smaller and drier, spindly-looking creatures that were earlier posing as bushes spring out at Fin, clawing at him with razor sharp fingers. The first one succeeds to gash his neck (ooc Fin, take 4 points of piercing damage) but Fin's chain mail protects him from any other attacks and it's now his turn.

Fin could hear M.O.M.'s angry tutelage as the animated shrubs closed in: Don't get surrounded! If one starts moving around, check the one in front and reposition.
That was all good advice, but what about living plants? Fin decided to treat them the same as any normal foe, but with less complicated defenses. In a fluid motion, he released his javelin to fall by his feet and drew his sword. His first attack was solid, but he quickly realized that stabbing a bush was less effective than a humanoid opponent.
