As Tastie follows Lanky down the lane thinking about bats and owls and how they'd taste, the hair on her arms and neck stand up, and the space between her shoulder blades itches. She can't shake the feeling of being watched.
[lol - meat is meat to her; she'll try to be careful with your children, haha. don't let them get too close!]
Tastie
She feels the uneasiness and lets anyone around her know they are being watched. She draws her crossbow and readies it for any unpleasantness. She says to Lanky, "You hate spirits, right? Can you detect them? Or know when they are close? I've a bad feeling about this place - you should ready yourself."
Gabin backs out of the first building and continues looking around, also making his way toward the tree now. "It's so quiet here." He says just barely above a whisper. "And so dead." The contrast between this village and the last seems stark to Gabin. Thinking back to his visitor from yesterday morning, he scans the branches of the tree in the center of town, thinking that even just the presence of a bird or two would help ease the oppressive atmosphere. But the more he sees of the place, the less hopeful he is for any such signs of life.
"I learned how to protect from them, but I don't know how to detect them. Don't worry I'll protect you. What about you? What do you have that's good against spirits?"
"I learned how to protect from them, but I don't know how to detect them. Don't worry I'll protect you. What about you? What do you have that's good against spirits?"
Tastie
"Hmmm good question! You know, I never fought a spirit before but I guess my magicks would be effective." She looks at him sweetly, "Aww, you'll protect me? That's so nice. You know, maybe I won't eat your bat after all. Err, wait, did I say that out loud. Umm, ah...Hmmm. Okay. Thanks for protecting me," she says, trying to change the subject, "I'm not very good stand and fight girl, you know? But I can take a hit - just not that many. Maybe I should learn to use real armor..." She looks down almost sadly at her shimmery, nearly translucent, outline of armor still around her (mage armor).
As the group continues to head into town and start looking into spaces, you feel the desolation of the town, but also the feeling you aren't alone. You can't quite put your finger on it and there is nothing to actually give you reason, just a feeling.
(I'm marking the ones you have looked into so far...)
Elirion tells Gabin about the tree ahead, then sends her owl aloft briefly to look further afield through it's eyes, before following Gabin on his explorations.
@DM: From higher up (max 100') can the mine or other sites of interest be seen? Are we at the top of the mountain? (You mentioned it was shrouded in mist)
Elirion, you see through your pet owl that you are indeed near the very peak of the mountain. It is still misty in the area, mostly coming from the NE direction, and as you have your owl scout this area, you see the opening to the mine.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“Er um Echo would dissapear if you tried, heh… Oh um…I’m glad you think so.” Lanky blushes slightly when Tastie says that it’s sweet of him to protect her. “Um…as for me, I need to get better amor. What I have is nice, but I like to get some full plate.” Lanky goes to the building to the right that he just checked and investigstes that one for anything with the help of Echo.
She goes and checks out a building as well, looking in but not going in, especially if that familiar strange darkness is present. She'll make the others aware of what she find before she sees Gabin head towards the tree - then she will skip after him.
Lanky, you try and recover yourself after blushing, still smiling at the thought as you go into the next house on the West side of the main road. This one's roof is still in tact, so the inside appears to be the way the family left it, though with a thick layer of dust. A shadow along the floor seems to be reaching for you as you investigate the house.. breaking you out of your reverie. As you back out of the house, a shadow behind you also appears to reach for you, though as you're looking, you're not sure how that shadow came to be, no light in that area to make it.
Tastie, you poke your head in the next house along the East side of the road, seeing a completely empty house, with all the walls, floor and roof intact. There is a thick layer of dust, but no furniture or items to speak of. As you're looking, Gabin walks by and draws your attention to what he is doing and you skip towards him.
Gabin, you see that a bare tree stands on the lawn in front of what appears to be the mayor’s mansion. You assume it is the tree that Lukas spoke of and you approach to investigate. On the west side of the tree is a hollow knot, about 5 feet above the ground, filled with dead leaves and empty nut shells. As you dig within the hollow, inside rests a delicate necklace: a thumb-sized platinum oval pendant threaded on a thin chain (20 gp), inscribed with “For Lorna, Forever” in a careful script.
Gabin carefully brushes the dust from the pendant and reads the inscription. He then winds up the chain and slips it into his breast pocket for safe-keeping. Turning around, he sees Tastie approaching and says, "I found the pendant Lukas asked us to retrieve. Also, that looks like the mayor's place. Want to check it out? Seems like the most likely place to find letters of correspondence or something that might offer more insight to what's going on here."
Lanky, fortunately, wouldn’t have heard that - unless he is reading Tastie’s mind !

E'lar keeps a watchful eye as the others explore buildings, but his attention keeps being drawn to the large, dead tree in the center of the village.

(She's licking her lips looking at the bat, it's either the bat or him. At least if it were him he'd fight back. But fair enough sorry.)

Remi comes out of the first building and begins to make his way up the central lane, looking for any movement. “Place gives me the creeps.” Perfect!
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.

After Gabin says this to Tastie, he sees movement off to the East in the corner of his eye. As he turns to look, there is nothing there.
Lanky immediatly goes to spirit killing mode at the sight of the shadow. "I FOUND A SPIRIT." He immediately uses mind sliver against the shadow.
Mind sliver: DC (INT) 12 or take 2 and subtract 1d4 from the next saving throw it makes before the end of your next turn.
Lanky - you can not tell if you hit something or not, but the shadows have either disappeared or gone back to normal.
