Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
You don't sense that Buppido is lying about wanting to kill the Drow. You get a sense he can be quite bloodthirsty.
Sarith is interesting. You don't think he's lying about wanting to go to Neverlight Grove, but it doesn't make much sense for the Drow to want to take sanctuary there. Something else may be motivating him to go there, but it could be something even he isn't aware of.
"Darklake it is I think then? Afterwards, I would lean towards this Neverlight Grove, but in reality, such long term planning may not matter much until we are truly escaped. Which we are not yet. Especially if Ilvara pursues, as seems likely. We may end up having to change plans on the fly. Right now the focus should just be - get well away from that prison and lose any chasers."
Tanis considers a moment.
"Also, I'm sure you all have noticed as well, but there is something seriously wrong around here that goes beyond the drow. What were those terrible flying things? Does anyone know? I don't think those are normal, even in the Underdark. And I've never heard of an ooze telepathically saying 'Flesh for the Faceless Lord' as it attacks."
Tanis is continuing to try to "rear scout" and wipe out any trace of the party's passage as he goes, and listen for pursuit or any following creatures. See Perception and Survival checks above, with advantage assuming Eldeth is helping (if not, just take the first roll+modifier).
Vrah shakes his head after being woken up and utters his thanks.
As the group considers their options he will keep an eye out to make sure none of the other creatures come their way.
"Everyone, let's get a move on to the lake, we need to be as far away from here as possible right now. They will not be fighting forever." With that he moves to the cave entrance and then waits till the middle of the pack and waiting to travel alongside Bupiddo so he can keep a watch on him.
1) a specific marching order (including the NPCs). You are in an area where you can travel 2 abreast.
2) Food. You have the good berry spell, but you don't have enough to feed everyone. Who gets a berry and who doesn't?
3) Are you using light?
4) Pace. Some said move fast. Others are talking about stealthing, covering tracks, etc. If you move fast, you take a minus 5 on perception and you don't have time to forage, cover your tracks, etc. Unless you're splitting the party, you guys need to move at the same pace.
5) Healing. Some of you have taken damage. Are you just ignoring that for now and moving on or do you want to take a short rest and use hit dice.
1: marching order shoowaa will be towards the middle. Eldeth to the front, Sprout in the middle, Derendril in the back, Buppido and Sarith in the middle dor the group to look after them and make sure rhey don’t do anything funny., Shuushar towards the back. 2: food: when resting Shoowaa can cast another goodberry and give it out to those that haven’t eatten. In order of what people Shoowaa will pritorize: Shoowaa, Phodoxia, Kisiki, Derendil, Sprout (if they eat), Tanis, Eldeth, Vethna, Vrah, Petmailer, Shuushar, Topsy, Turvy, Buppido, Jimjar,Sarith
3: no
4: while I’d rather to normal pace, if needed I’ll go fast pace
5: healing Shoowaa has goodberries. He’s eating 4 of them, gave two to Petmailer and has four left.
Order: Just one correction on the order: Eldeth is back with Tanis helping him scout the rear and cover the trail while Vethna and the other scouts are at the front - not sure which scout is with her at the front when we are 2 abreast, probably Petmailer or possibly Vrah based on who volunteered in the OOC chat.
When single file, Tanis at the very back, Vethna at the very front. I think both characters have already rolled Perception and Survival and Vethna rolled Stealth. Tanis rolled with advantage assuming help from Eldeth, but if there is countervailing disadvantage due to darkvision in darkness and/or pace (see below), then just take the first roll plus modifier from when you hover. Which for Tanis would still be 22 for Perception but down to 11 for Survival.
Others in the middle I think, though please correct if I missed someone.
Food: Shoowaa has the only source of food assuming we can't forage at our current pace, so I defer to their post.
Light: Kisiki is using Light at the center of the marching order if I am not mistaken, per OOC chat. Center folks were going to forage, but not sure if they have time if we are going fast (see below). I assume the front and back folks are outside the range of the Light?
Pace: Scanning the OOC thread, it looked like all PCs were either good with either medium or fast, with a couple pushing for fast. So fast it is, at least for the first half of the day as Petmailer suggested.
Healing: I think the only PCs or NPCs that took more than 1 point of damage (from slapping awake) were Shoowaa (bolt) and Petmailer (jumping/sliding down) and they have at least partially healed themselves with Goodberry. So no more healing other than from those who eat another Goodberry based on the Food decision above.
Kisiki will take up the middle of the pack with Light on at all time, unless (as noted in OOC) someone asks him to turn it off or he perceives a threat nearby that he doesn't think has noticed them yet.
"To Darklake sounds wise. Then I would head to Gracklstugh (he mispronounces it horribly). It is a big town, yes? There will be many caravans to take us home, no?"
(OO'C: I believe that covers it fairly well. Vrah said they were staying in the center, to watch the Darrow. Vethna is in the lead. Pace is fast to start, which means there really is no scouting or track covering going on, as we want to put some distance between us and the drow, while the drow are still fighting the strange creatures. No short rest here either, as that would waste an hour and likely have us recaptured almost instantly. The plan is to move fast-pace for half of a day, then to slow down to a normal pace. I assume at a normal pace we can work to cover tracks, do scouting, and have a chance to forage a bit, but let me know if that is not possible.)
Good deal. [OOC: This travel portion has a lot of randomly generated potential encounters and terrain issues. Some make more sense than others. Unless anyone has an objection, I will probably not be including all those rolls in the forum posts. I will probably roll several days worth and come up with an outline of what happens on different days. At normal pace, it's about an 8 day trek to Sluublodop.]
Between the fast travel for the first part of the day and the efforts later in the day to cover your tracks, you feel confident you have been able to put some distance between yourselves and any pursuers. You don't encounter anyone and after a long day of travel, you are able to find a small cavern that is mostly hidden where you think it will be safe to camp for a rest. Once again, you have troubled dreams. You don't know if it is because of the trauma of imprisonment and escape or something else. The dreams are strange and deeply disturbing and several of you find your dreams had similar themes (if you discuss them). Setting up a watch, there are no incidents on this first night on the run.
You awake the next morning from a long rest, healed and rejuvenated. The good berry's can help you get by without food for a while, but you will need to find more water soon. (I think some of you filled water skins from the waterfall before heading out. I'm going to say that was enough water for the first day of travel and the next day if you conserve it.) When you awaken, you also feel as if you have new skills and abilities.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(I was waiting about the goodberries before I posted this, but since we're moving forward to the next day I will post it now as happening before that.)
Phodoxia runs along with the group, somewhere in the middle next to the other goblin, with the lizardman's light glowing. Shoowaa's angry, seeping crossbow wound is biting at her. She just keeps looking at it. As she's watching, the edges glow a little and she is relieved to see the wound closing.
"That's better," she says to him in Goblin. "Can I have a berry?"
Back then: Shoowaa will gladly give Phodoxia a berry for healing him. He was going to give her a berry anyways, now it's much sooner.
Now: Shoowaa gets up and stretches. Maybe it's due to his natural affinity towards mushrooms/magic, maybe it's because of the mushroom soup that he had, or perhaps it's because Sprout had a different effect on him than most, but whatever the case he feels like he can release spores himself. He keeps it to himself for now, not wanting to freak anyone out that he can do something weird. He thinks he also can change shape into something more convenient when the time comes, like a spider.
"How many days until we get to the lake? I got spells that can help our water and food situation but if we run into enemies I might not have enough for everyone."
Prepared spells for the day: Create/ destroy water, Faeie fire, goodbery, purify food and drink, speak with animals
Sarith will tell you that he thinks it will take about 8 days total to get to the Dark Lake. Maybe 6 if the party keeps up a fast pace the entire time, but that would start to become more dangerous, the farther you get from the outpost. There are many dangerous things and people in the Underdark that you don't want to run into if you don't have to.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Let's get moving." Vethna says as she finishes packing up her gear. She makes sure everyone is accounted for, then moves to the tunnel ahead. "If someone can keep an eye out for water, as well as any food, that could be useful as we move along today." She requests. "I'll scout the way ahead."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tanis would advocate for a medium pace starting today, unless he notices any signs of pursuit. Completely agree on foragers looking for drinkable water as much as food, though it sounds like Shoowaa can help there too. Tanis doesn't have as many spell slots so will wait to cast Goodberry until needed or until it's time for the next long rest if he still has spell slots available.
Rear scouting again with Eldeth if she is willing, attempting to cover up the party's trail and sense for pursuit by drow or other Underdark denizens. Assuming Petmailer up front helping lead scout Vethna.
OOC: Note that if he has no advantage, Tanis'Perception would be 19 instead of 25. And his Survival would be a 18 instead of 19. (Using the first rolls shown in the hover).
Stealth roll was already straight, dirty 20 with no advantage.
When you awake in the morning, you feel rested and healed up from the rigors of the day before. Your sleep was still troubled. Some of you dreamt of a tentacled beast doing battle with a pack of hyenas. Others' dreams were haunted by strange goat creatures or massive beasts with the wings of a bat. Though you needed the rest, you found yourselves thankful to return to consciousness. The goodberries are sustaining you, but having had nothing but the berries and thin mushroom broth the day before that, you still long for a hearty meal.
When you awaken, Shuushar is up before you, sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed and meditating. He is humming a deep thrumming sound. Buppido challenges him. Those of you who can understand undercommon hear the following exchange:
"What's with all the noise? I don't buy your peace and calm act. I've met some of your kind before. You're all insane." Shuushar slowly rouses himself. "You are correct, derro. Many of my kind suffer madness. I have spent years pursuing enlightenment in order to find a path that will lead them from their troubled waters." Buppido responds "Yeah, right. You don't fool me. You're a madman. You all are." It's hard to tell on his fish-like features, but a smile seems to spread across his face. He says "As the enlightened ones are known to say 'It takes one to know one.'" Buppido storms off to find a waterskin.
As the day progresses, working with Sarith's suggestions on the tunnels to follow, Vethna scouts ahead. This area is a maze of passages, but you continue to make progress in the direction you want. Mid way through the day, Vethna spots a faint glow coming from a side passage. Checking it out, she discovers a chamber where a constant dripping of water has created a small grove of miscellaneous mushrooms and fungi. The underdark dwellers among you are familiar with many of these species, but any of you can make a nature check if you don't want to take their word for the various species.
In a shallow pool, there are 3 large bulbous orbs growing just beneath the surface of the water. Along the walls of the chamber, there are shelf-like funguses growing that look like rotting flesh. When he spots these, Buppido rushes over and tears a chunk off the wall and starts chewing it. He stuff more pieces in his bag. The glow was coming from some tall, tube-shaped bioluminescent mushrooms that are growing 4 to 7 feet tall near the entrance to the chamber. Jimjar ignores these, but walks past them to start picking some reddish brown mushroom that are between 1 and 2 feet tall with a small rounded cap.
