"Now hold on Maris, you ain't going in alone. I can see in the dark as well so I'll back you up. Let's lead like 30-60 feet so the rest of you can catch up if needed"
Right at the entrance of the cave, you can observe that, on the eastern side, there is a large opening, like a large natural room, and a few natural steps leading to it.
You can hear intense chain rattling and the savage howling of wolves. You may go there or continue walking up north, following the stream. (oops, the 'natural steps' are not so natural on this map. You get the point anyway.)
Maris pauses for a moment at the sound of the beasts, but gives Duncan a reassuring nod.
If the stream is trickling loudly enough to mask footsteps (and not too deep) Maris would walk in the stream. If it's quiet, Maris will continue north on the path, away from the beasts.

The stream is a bit loud inside the cave, although Maris needs to maintain a relatively slow pace as to not create even more noise.
I'll follow behind Maris, but take a pause to look down the path (and/or walk up the stair to look into it)
Savage snarls and the sounds of rattling chains greet your ears where three wolves are chained up just inside the opening. Each wolf’s chain leads to an iron rod driven into the base of a stalagmite. They cannot reach nor attack Duncan, but they sure are trying.
At the end of the room, Duncan can see a small opening in the wall, big enough for one person to fit through.
Lillian stares wide eyed at Tessa. "This is amazing. I have heard of wizards who could cast spells that allow them to see in the dark, even without casting a light spell, but that was nothing compared to this. Thank you."
"psst Maris hold up" Duncan whispers a little loudly to get his attention "There's an opening up there maybe we should check it out" "I reckon we can distract the wolves or just kill them since they're chained up"
(OOC: Would my rations have any kind of meat or something that might be appetizing to the wolves?)

I believe so. You should have some form of jerky or other smoked meats. You can try throwing some to the wolves if you wish.
"Aye, " Duncan says while pulling out the jerky or smoked meats "I'll distract them and you go over there, I'll join you out right after."
(Animal Handling 19)
The beef jerky seems to work wonders on the hungry wolves. As Duncan approaches and attempts to calm the beasts, they seem to comply and settle down.
Approaching the fissure at the end of the room, Maris finds a shaft leading upwards with an opening at its end. He can't tell where it might lead, but he knows there will be some climbing involved.
(Whoever wishes to ascend the shaft must roll an Athletics check.)
He manages to go up the shaft and climb the opening on top, and he emerges in a completely different room. In the center of this room he sees a campfire by which a bugbear, a wolf and 2 goblins are sitting. There is also a pile of crates and sacks and other loot in the opposed corner of the room.
They don't seem to be paying attention to the direction of the shaft Maris has just emerged from.
(climbing down on the shaft is another athletics check)
"Perhaps I'll go ahead of the group. I can see without light and I'm quicker than the rest of you. I can have a look, and come back."

Maris looks up into the opening, reaches up, and starts scaling the wall.

Lillian seems to be getting nervous that the other two have disappeared around the corner and the wolf sounds have changed to chewing.
Seeing he's outnumbered heavily, he doesn't spend a second longer than necessary. Maris descends the opening again.
