Jade looks up at Elandria with gratitude, and accepts her help. She stands up and brushes herself off and with a smile she says. "Yes, lets curve around, though I did feel some rumblings while I was down there, uh, doing reconnaissance..."
Having found all the information you feel you need to proceed, you begin to follow the worn-out path through the mountains in an effort to ignore the gnolls. Jade and Liri lead the group, keeping a careful eye on the path and navigating the group through the hills as you move. As you travel, you do your best to tread carefully, making sure not to cause any unnecessary commotion. As you recount what you do as you travel along this lightly trodden path, make a Stealth check (except Soloth and Jade, who already have)
Lux and Liri slink along without any issues and there don't seem to be any more disturbances, but as Koric walks along, he accidentally kicks a few rocks, which even in the grass make some minor noise as they tumble along. The ground again rumbles, much in the same way it did for Jade. Whatever is nearby, it certainly heard the noise Koric was making...
(( Do we have any idea something is near us and, if so, what? Otherwise we just keep moving i guess ))
You all feel the tremor in the ground, so feel free to try and investigate in some way if you want to try and figure out what is near you! Elandra's stealth roll may also matter in terms of information or what goes on here
As Elandra walks along, she also kicks into a few rocks, as they bounce along the ground, you all feel that rumble again, much closer to you all this time. Suddenly, the tremors you are hearing turn into a roar, and two giant bulettes emerge from the ground. With a cacophonous sound somewhere between a roar, a growl, and a scream, they begin to approach the group. One of them is direct in front, starting at Liri and Jade, and the other one emerges in a passage between two hills to the right of the group. Time to roll initiative!
In addition, the Bulettes have a stealth of 12. Anyone with a passive perception lower than that is surprised on their first turn
Map (and notes):
Each square is 5 feet
The hills are each 30 feet off of the ground. You can get up by expending double movement (if you have some way to get to 60ft of movement), using a high jump if possible, or by making a successful Athletics check
Order is Soloth > Elandra > Balthar > Koric and Lux (you two can decide who goes first due to the tie) > Jade > Bulettes > Liri. Soloth, you are up!
Elandra looks a little sheepish as the rocks move and the tremors intensify "Oops...". Seeing the two creatures emerge out of the ground ahead of them, she falls straight back into old habits, hers words faster than most. "Jade, show us why Tempus favoured you!" Turning to se Soloth rush towards the monstrosity to the side, she shouts at it "Get back in your hole, you overgrown mole!"
Action: Vicious Mockery @ Bulette 2. DC:15 WIS save negates 3 psychic damage & disadvantage on next attack
Bulette #2 looks at you, a deep look of rage in its eyes, and you feel yourself lock in on it as your quarry, prepared to take it down. (Also, it won't matter for this one since 10 won't hit, but make sure to roll the extra d6 of damage for hunter's mark for future attack on this bulette)
@Elandra
Bulette's Wis Save: 2
Bulette #2 looks at you and makes a sad little groaning noise and kicks his feet around, stomping almost like a little human toddler that didn't get his way. As much as you can discern the emotions of a bulette, He looks deeply discouraged and upset.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Koric glances at Jade; she seemed to him to to fit the part of the kind that was unafraid of marching into a fight. Help her then fly back, he tells Balthar.
Balthar does her best to folow Jade and distract whatever target she decides to attack, while Koric lets the anger he feels well up inside of him. Arcane words encapsulate the malice of his thoughts, and he directs them at B1, while moving just behind Elandra. Hoping that they can all focus on one of the creatures, he utters an short incantation as balls of fire launch from his hands at B2.
- Ask Balthar to Help Jade - Cast Bestow Curse on B1 (Make a Wis save 17 at the start of each of its turns. If it fails, it wastes its action that turn doing nothing) - Cast Fire Bolt on B2: Attack: 14 Damage: 14 - Move behind Elandra
Balthar flies over to Jade fluttering around and distracting the two buletts, who now look more open to however Jade might attack them. As you duck behind Elandra, the fire that launches out of your hands hits Bulette #2 in the face. The fire makes it visibly uncomfortable, and it is clearly wounded by it, but the flame fails to really catch on its rocky carapace. Balthar then lands by your side, fluttering slightly below you and Elandra
I believe we continue. And, Yes, I believe we are attempting to curve around and avoid the gnolls.
