Katarina pauses from her inspection of the amulet now gently gripped in her paws at the mention of Factore and her arrow machine.
"Don't worry, it was no problem that could not be overcome... Though Katarina does hope that gnome Factore is more careful where she points her machines in the future... human Khessa nearly got hurt before Katarina managed to wrestle gnome Factore away from machine..."
Katarina is clearly feeling just a bit proud of how she handled the encounter with the crossbow contraption, and taking the opportunity to brag a little bit. But she is also genuinely concerned about the possibility that the gnome could hurt someone in the future if she does not learn a lesson... or that Factore could meet someone who will not hesitate to use lethal force when faced with a gnome shooting a dozen crossbows.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Dabbledob hurries off to another desk and furiously scribbles something down on a piece of parchment. "I have just the thing!" she says, returning to Khessa. "Take this. It's a Writ of Passage," she says proudly. "It has my signature so any gnomes you encounter will know you were sent by me."
"By us!" corrects Fibblestib.
"By us, right," says Dabbledob.
In response to Katarina, Dabbledob pulls out her blueprint again. "Maybe I can test my invention on Factore," she muses out loud. "For her own safety, of course, and the safety of any visitors to Gnomengarde!"
"Thank you dear!" Khessa smiles at Dabbledob and (leaning over her sufficiently) hugs her gratefully "Oh, and the idea of testing your invention on Factore is brilliant! Inventions should always be tested, before their official use...and possibly on a suitable subject to test its effectiveness. You are very intelligent indeed, both in the idea itself, and in the choice of subject! Go for it!"
After that, having secured the Writ of Passage on her person, the blonde arcane warrior is ready to begin the exploration; she mentally instructs Anator, still safely hidden between her golden locks, to warn her if he detects something suspect with his senses (blindsight 60') and looks at the companions one by one: "So, let's start from the first fork or room after the bridge that we do n't have explored yet?" and, unless someone has better propositions, she sets out…
As she crosses the bridge, the tall adventuress takes care to keep to Jasper's side (or immediately in front of him, if bridge too narrow for two people side by side) and hold his hand, smiling at him to give him confidence ("Don't worry and don't look down, dear... just walk with me and look straight ahead, okay? We'll be there before even if you realize it!")
After the crossing of the bridge, Khessa instead remains in the front row, in order to be the first (or one of the first) to cope with an eventual undetected threat.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jasper feels more steady crossing the bridge with Khessa’s help. “Thank you so much!” Jasper gasps a little air. ”When we enter a room, I’ll bring the moonlight in to light the room and move it over any objects.” Jasper tells the others. “Be ready if anything happens.“
(Coming to the first room, Jasper stays at entrance and casts Moonbeam and moves the light over all the objects every 10-15 feet.)
The first room you come to contains twelve forty-gallon barrels set into wide alcoves. Each barrel is secured by a wooden brace. The barrels in the south alcove have been tapped with wooden spigots. Two of those barrels are half full, and two are nearly empty.
As Jasper casts his spell, his skin turns a vibrant shade of blue. When he casts the spell over the barrels, one of the barrels is suddenly engulfed in ghostly flames and shrieks with outrage. It leaps up and a monstrous face with sharp fangs and a long tongue is revealed as it whirls to attack the party!
Jasper, while casting the spell, sees his fingers begin to change color and is slightly distracted until one of the barrels is engulfed in ghostly flames. Steadily regaining his focus, Jasper yells out. “Look out! That barrel there is changing! Get ready!”
The mimic snarls in rage and pain as it is struck by spell and arrow. It appears to shrug off the poison, however, but it is clearly wounded from the barrage.
It moves forward to attack Jasper, its monstrous mouth opening wide for a bite!
Attack: 18 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
Acid drips from its fangs as its teeth crunches against Jasper's armor: 7 acid damage.
