Jane frowns at Zerxius in a friendly way. "Well don't stand there too long, there's plenty of room for you. We all rode down here just fine, didn't we? I couldn't leave you down here alone, especially not when you wouldn't let me help pay for these poor souls in the bottom."
The cage seems exactly the right size to accommodate your party and your finds - including the bodies loaded on the bottom.
(Anyone with proficiency in Arcana)
The cage is clearly affected by a powerful transmutation spell - you are certain that it would adjust to meet the needs of any party that it found standing in the Well Mouth. You are also mortally certain that it won't move until enough gold has been deposited in the central chest.
Drax begins looking at the items he pulled off the desiccated bodies on the cavern floor. Ronkur, his helm still peeled back like two halves of a happy clam, chuckles and claps the barbarian on the back 'That's quite a fortuitous find there my friend! You've got a genuine Boondiggle Bag of Bountiful Booty! Ah, that's a handy item, it is. Oh and it looks like you've got a good bit of the Diggle's Dungeon Delver kit as well - that rope will get you out of a jam - or a pit - and the [Tooltip Not Found] will give you light int a dark place. Handy they are.'
Ronkur drops a coin into the massive cage and looks out at the rest of you - 'You're welcome to stay, but I've had about enough adventure for the evening.'
You all get the sense that the cage won't wait much longer for coin and occupants.
As the rest of you enter the cage and deposit a coin, Ronkur stands looking down the northern tunnel, urging you to load as quickly as possible.
Once the bodies of the dead adventurers are strapped into the storage area and your party is loaded up, Ronkur walks up the small ramp and deposits the last coin into the chest himself. As he does, the ramp closes up behind him and the cage rises up into the air.
Once clear of the floor, the gnome triggers an unseen mechanism and his suit collapses, folding onto itself in impossible ways until all that remains is a single oversized gauntlet on his right hand. 'Well then, ye've had a good first trip down into the Portal I'd say! An Olem Shard and a near complete Dungeon Delver's kit all in one trip - that's a mighty good start for a crew of adventurers, it is. Now, yer missing some key bits of yer kit, some absolutely essential items you are. I could help yas fill that out - for a bit of coin if yas were interested...'
The gnome's not-so-subtle sales pitch for Diggles' Dungeon Delvers Designs continues the entire trip to the surface, the artificer seemingly oblivious to your interest levels - he intends to get through his entire pitch before you crest the edge of the Well.
At the top, the Goliath who sent you down uses her spectral hand to grab the cage and pull it to the side, dropping the ramp so you all can disembark safely. Durnan is still behind the bar, elbows planted firmly but there's a spark of interest in his eye as your group makes its triumphant return to the Tavern. Ronkur leaps from the cage and scrabbles over towards the barkeep as fast as little legs can carry him.
As he does, the Goliath steps forward to greet and guide you. 'Welcome back brave adventurers. Few return at all, and fewer still return with the potential of an Olem Shard coursing through their veins. I am Gramursh' a delicate flourish of the hand accompanies her introduction 'and it is my pleasure to extend the hospitality of the Inn to you for as long as you choose to stay. Eat, drink, and take a room to rest. You will be safe here for as long as you choose to sleep under the roof of the Yawning Portal Inn.'
She signals to a rosy-cheeked halfling servant who bustles about helping you all with whatever you need for the night, eventually settling you all into small but comfortable rooms of your own.
Summary and Action
Ok - long rest and Level Up for everyone. I'll pause here in case anyone has any questions or wants to roleplay I'll pick up tomorrow am with the breakfast at a table in the Inn and the next adventure prompt
Anyone with Passive Insight of 12 or more
Everything about the gnome is different from the hulking, confident and commanding figure you fought alongside in the dungeons. His posture, gait, and speech rhythms are all completely different. If you hadn't seem him shed his armor in front of you might not believe it was the same person.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jane is delighted to find her dropped equipment right where she left it. If the others decide to head back to the table to finish their meal she will comment to them "Did any of you notice something... a bit strange about the gnome?" At the end of the meal she will cart her heavy pack off to her room and collapse into the bed for a good night's rest.
Rantel paid his own coin, and offers to cover the costs of the bodies. He's amazed at the arcane mechanics of the lift. At the top, he keeps an eye on the shard, watching where it goes. He waves off any compliments, and eventually takes a break in his room, pulling out the book and the dagger, spending some time to figure out what they are and what they do. He worked well with the group he went down with, so depending on what the items were, perhaps he might find someone who could use them more. But he liked to see all the angles before making a decision. He also offers to identify anything the others had found. (Also remind me, did we get any gold from that delve?)
The next morning you all make your way down into main room of the tavern to take your breakfast. The Tavern is noticeably quieter in the early light of a new day, the revelry of the night before replaced by a sober business-like atmosphere - apparently the serious explorers went down early in the morning.
The rosy-cheeked halfing server bustles about delivering heaping plates of fried bread, mugs of dark beer and bowls of a steaming gruel studded with dried berries and nuts. She plops mugs and plates down with a practiced ease, moving like a ballerina through the bustling space. As she approaches your table she leans in and speaks to you all out of the corner of her mouth, clearly trying to avoid calling any attention from the other patrons 'Oy, yer the ones what brought up a Shard last night, eh? Ye might want to chat up that dame in the corner if yer lookin' for work. She's in 'ere every day for the last week looking for someone to find her kids she is, but all that lot' she indicates the queue of adventuring parties waiting on the cage to ferry them down the Well Mouth 'well, that lot only cares about wut they can pull out from the darkness below. They don't care about wut darkness is up 'ere already'
Without waiting for a response, she deposits your breakfast on the table and spins off, on to the next task.
SUMMARY AND ACTION
Your attention is drawn to a matronly woman sitting at a table eating a modest breakfast. A single aging Dragonborn stands near, his arms crossed in disgust as he surveys the room suspiciously.
The rest of the tavern is bustling with parties of adventurers, they all seem to be keeping to themselves and watching the other parties - including yours - suspiciously.
Gramursh (the female Goliath) is busy working the cage and Ronkur is selling Dungeon Delver packs and assorted supplies to anyone interested.
Durnan stands behind the bar as he always does, but he did favor your table with a considering nod as you all came down and got settled - and your food came out without you having to order or pay - so you appear to be in good standing with the proprietor.
Drax sits and enjoys his meal waiting to hear from the others their ideas for the upcoming day. Though he suspects a day filled of more dungeon delving is in store.
Jane comes down and orders a country style breakfast. she listens to the tip about the woman who is missing her kids and turns a sympathetic eye in that direction. in reply to Zerxius she says "I think so, it's hard to see a mother in such distress. I'd like to buy some supplies before we go back down, I think a healer's kit would come in mighty handy."
First Zerxius begins moving the bodies to the cage depositing a coin for each
"They should at least finish their journey"
Laissez les bons temps rouler
Jane helps with the bodies and will split the cost of them with Zerxius, adding a coin for herself at the end.
Bree moves up to the box and deposits one gold coin for herself.
Hoghead climbs up and puts in a gold coin.
If there doesnt look like there will be room for everyone Zerxius will wait

"Dear lady we all rode down. But there are 3 extra going up. I am just seeing if there will be enough room first" zerxius bows slightly at the cleric

Drax deposits a coin and sits in the cage and begins examining his finds. (Assuming there’s room/space to do so)
