Drax nods at Bree’s idea, “Why don’t you and Hoghead see if anyones seen them there, while Jane checks at the general store to see if anyone has stocked up recently for a long trip.” Drax suggests hoping the group will get a better idea of how long it’s been since the “kids” passed through here.
During the investigation, (should it happen) Drax will inspect his supplies to ensure he has plenty of food and water. He will also inspect the contents of the haversack he found on the off chance there was anything else in it.
Drax finds that the Handy Haversack is indeed very handy. Sticking his arm into the main compartment, he finds it empty. Checking the side pockets he find them empty as well. Thinking it strange, and thinking about his rumbling belly, he sticks his hand back in and pulls out a hunk of dried beef. A bit of experimentation lets him find 10 days of rations, 50 feet of hempen rope, 20 pitons, and climbing gear. There might be something else hiding in there but he can't think of what that might be,,,,
Inside the Tavern Hogshead finds plenty of ale and Bree finds a chatty barmaid who seems to remember two young people coming through a couple of weeks ago. Not alot of detail came to mind - young, fit, lightly equipped. They hadn't come back through.
Jane has no trouble finding a healer's kit or selling some of her excess equipment.
After a bit of description of the Hucrele heirs, the bartender nods 'Ayup, they came through a couple of weeks ago, haven't seen them come back this way since.' He puts a mug of ale on the counter and goes back to polishing the bar.
Z keeps an eye on the largely empty bar, seeing Hogshead and Bree chatting with the staff, and a small table of quiet locals drinking in the middle of the day.
SUMMARY AND ACTION
Ok - 7 miles to the ravine. It's midday now - do you set out now and walk there or seek lodging and wait for the morning?
Jane makes her transactions and asks the store clerk about the Hucrele siblings, adding descriptions as needed. When she is done she meets the others at the tavern, declining to order anything, and exchanging information. "Well I'm up for the walk. There's nothing like sleeping under the stars to help connect you back to the earth."
The clerk remembers the two young Hucrele's coming through several weeks ago. They were eager and excited to be on their way, grabbing fresh food and some hempen rope before setting off for the ravine outside of town. The clerk warned them - and Jane - of the bands of goblin bandits who were known to strike travelers on the Old Trade Road. Rumors were that they hid out in the remains of an old castle somewhere to the West.
"As long as we keep our eyes open, it shouldn't be no problem. A few goblins ain't nothing," Bree says confidently, dismissing the possible threat with a wave of her hand.
The party gathers your newly acquired items, a bit lighter after selling unnecessary gear, finishes their drinks and sets out along the path marked on the map, eyes peeled for bandits.
SUMMARY AND ACTION
Ok, need a marching order from you all, and survival check from someone (assume you have [action] Help [/help]) to see how long it takes to make your way towards the marked spot
Also need 2 separate players to give me a D20 roll
Rantle's nose has been in his newly-acquired book for much of the time. He looks around town for any sources of good paper and ink, since he's pretty sure the vellum in his current book wouldn't work to transfer the new spells. He just gets a price and a source, since he doesn't have much money. (If we're splitting anything we found, let me know!)
As they walk, he showed the moon-touched dagger to Bree. "I wondered if you might find this more useful than me. It helps you see in the dark. I'd be willing to trade it for something, even a future favor."
He's happy to stick to rations and doesn't pick up anything in the next town. He's happy to move along.
When Rantel shows Bree the dagger, her eyes widen and her jaw drops open in surprise.
"Wow! Really!? I'd be more than happy to trade ya for it! I don't have much on me now, but if ya want a favor in the future or a bit of gold after we complete this job then it's yours! Consider it done!" She exclaims as she looks over the dagger.
When they leave the crossroads, she takes up position behind Jane to assist her in keeping an eye out on the road.
The party makes its way along the Old Trade Road, making good time and keeping to the path marked on the map without much trouble.
As the sun sinks towards the horizon, a ravine can be seen about 300 yards off the Old Trade Road. As you get closer you can see some posts and rope indicating an area where others have lower themselves down into the ravine.
Jane approaches the ravine, checking their location against the map to make sure they had found the right location. Distracted by the map, she misses the signs of the Goblin Bandits lying in wait.
Surprise Round: First 4 concentrate fire on Jane Goblin 1: Attack: 7 Damage: 3 Goblin 2: Attack: 10 Damage: 7 Goblin 3: Attack: 16 Damage: 4 Goblin 4: Attack: 7 Damage: 4
Bandits 5-8 attack Z at the back Goblin 5: Attack: 20 Damage: 4 Goblin 6: Attack: 6 Damage: 7 Goblin 7: Attack: 21 Damage: 6 Goblin 8: Attack: 16 Damage: 8

Hoghead enters the tavern and goes straight to the bar. "Lemme get a pint of your strongest stuff and an ale while I wait for it."
He places a gold on the bar and asks if the bartender has seen or heard anything about the "kids".

Drax would do his best to stick near the middle of the group, that way he can easily respond to an attack from either the front or rear.
