Jane can see in an instant that this is serious, and without a moment to lose she knows what she needs to do. She lets go of the grip on her shield letting it dangle from her elbow and makes a grab for the unconscious human, trying to rip him out of the grip of the tentacle. If successful she will drag him as far away from the tentacle and toward the group as she can.
Rantel cuts through the last of the baby slugs and Jane manages to wrest Zerexius' limp body free from the fleshy tentacle, whispering in the monk's ear as she pulls him free.
Bree | Zerexius | Mama | Babies | Hogshead | Jane | Rantel
Bree and Zerexius drive sharp pointy things right into the soft meaty part of the tentacled creature in the heart of the nest. The baby slug, badly injured scurries away into the nest, borrowing its way deep inside.
SUMMARY AND ACTION
Out of initiative. Body slumped against the far wall. Monsters are dead (mama and one baby) or have fled the field.
Room is 20x20 stone with a large nest in the center, Mama's tentacles are laying across the floor lifeless.
Jane helps Zerxius to his feet and fixes her shield back on her arm, then makes her way cautiously around the edge of the room over to the humanoid. She stops about 10 feet away and looks them over to see what she can make out, and calls out to them. "Hey, hey you alright?"
Jane calls out to the slumped figure against the far wall but gets no response. As she peers in closer, she sees that the body has been drained of any fluid - completely masticated. Strangely the figure's armor and cloak appear to be unaffected. She sees a glint of a ring on his right hand her keen eyes spotting a family crest intricately engraved on a signet ring.
Rantel and Hogshead examine the nest and the broken corpses of the foul creatures that made it their home. Rantel recalls reading about similar creatures, known simply as Piercer, that reside in caves and dungeons. This one seems to be a bit different, having been tied to a single location where it appears to ... well consume anything thrown its way. The 'nest' is a collection of broken weapons, remnants of torn clothes, animal corpses, and waste of all sorts. The room has no other entrances or exits.
SUMMARY AND ACTION
Room is empty of threats. Body is dead and unrecognizable, armor, cloak and a ring are recoverable.
Quick reminder, you are at the end of a hallway with a dry fountain, south of you is the path back towards the Kobold lair. Meepo is urging you into a an empty room that leads to the Goblin lair. That room is 20x20 stone with an entrance on the SouthEast corner and an exit on the North-northwestern wall.
"That poor guys stuff is weirdly intact even after them being truly effed. Maybe it's magical in some way. I don't know much about that stuff but I've heard of it. Anyway, this area is secure and seems to be secure and we can shut the door. Do you think we should take a short rest so that Zerxius can catch his breath a bit before beating the hell out of some goblins?"
Jane starts removing the rings and cloak. "A rest is probably a good idea, but would you help me remove this armor first? I don't think I can carry it all, but it might be better to look at it in the light. We might be able to get some of this back to their family. Or at least find out what family they came from." She will also go through the remains of any pockets just in case there is anything that could be of sentimental value.
The armor and cloak come off easily enough, the studded leather light and remarkably well made. It seems to shrug off the dirt, grime and remnants of the decomposing body it wrapped. The cloak is of similarly high quality, the light fabric glimmering and seeming to floar briefly as Jane removes it gingerly from the body.
The signet ring is a different story all together. Jane manages to get it loose, but not without taking most of the finger off at the same time. It's a gruesome moment and highlights the nature of this room - it almost seems as if a crude composting process is underway with biological material being broken down, passing through the nest and well.....going somewhere below.
SUMMARY AND ACTION
You have a set of studded leather armor, clearly magical and a cloak, clearly magical. If anyone has identify you can run that during the short rest on both items.
The ring doesn't appear to be magical in nature, but it does appear to have the Hucrele family crest on it - the crest of the lost teens you were sent to find.
Feel free to take a short rest and roll any hit dice you'd like.
Where to next? Back to the kobolds or down into and through the Goblin camp?

Bree collected her arrows from the Piercers and then walked over to the door that Meepo indicated. Just like earlier, she leaned in and tried to discern any noises from the other side while the others investigated the body.
Rantel goes into crime scene mode, trying to ascertain any details on how long the body has been there, who it might be, how it died, etc. If the ring seems to belong to the corpse or was purloined.
He doesn't have identify but he'd spend the short rest with the cloak trying to figure out what it does (are we using that rule?).
(Crime Scene) Investigation: 23 adv if he has help 11
Meepo excitedly follows Bree over to the door leading into the Goblin area. The door to the room is heavy oak banded with iron, listening at the door you hear... nothing on the other side.
Meepo leans forward and opens the door and urges Bree to move in, gesturing at the door to the Northwest. 'Goblins through there.'
Rantel spends his downtime puzzling over the body and the cloak. He quickly ascertains that the body was crushed and killed, likely by the same monsters the party faced, but the magical nature of the armor and the cloak kept the body from decomposing into a sludge. His careful investigation shows that the floor is lined with a thick slurry paste of biological waste, all of which is seeping into the Nest and then draining into something below.
The cloak and the armor are easy enough to recognize and understand with a little downtime. The Cloak of Billowing and Glamoured Studded Leather are just the sort of items a wealthy, fashion-conscious young adventurer might use part of his trust fund to purchase.

Zerxius nursing his wounds still wont enter the room. :)

"Let's go smack some goblins. Why don't I go first since I have the big shield."
