“Nobody lives forever. Let’s go.” Hoghead begins walking down the hall at a moderate pace, his shield strapped to his left arm and twirling his hammer in his right.
The two dwarves make their way forward while Zerxius stays to help the rest of the party clear the pit.
As Hogshead advances he sees the Armored Figure silhouetted against the faint light coming in from the end of the tunnel. The hulking figure catches a spider in mid-leap, crushing it's carapace in his gauntleted hand. He then fires off a firebolt from the other fist, almost casually dispatching the last of the smaller spiders. The Figure turns back and yells down the hallway 'C'mon ya wastrels - it's a bleedin' Olem Shard! You'll want yer share of this fer sure!' before rushing forward and leaping and then falling out of sight.
OK, quick summary:
Hogshead and Drax are 15 feet past the tunnel at this point. Give me a sense of your pace and your approach as you move forward. Are you racing ahead, plodding, any rolls you wanna through in there (traps, stealth, etc)? Rolls (and their associated actions) slow you down and the Armored Figure is pulling ahead and has implied that if you're not in the fight, you don't get your share of the loot.
The Giant Spider is no longer in view but last you saw, it was badly wounded. The Armored Figure seems to have finished off the other 4 medium-sized spiders (the ones who shot webbing and ran).
Hogshead and Zerxius are visibily wounded, limping, bleeding and bruised. Everyone else seems to be in good shape.
Zerxius is on the other side of the pit, ready to Help anyone across. Standard long jump rules apply here as well - so anyone with a Str10+ will have no issue clearing the gap, but feel free to use Advantage if you need/want to get fancy in crossing.
Rantel, Bree, and Jane are on the other side of the pit. What are you all doing next?
The tunnel is fully revealed at this point - Zerxius is 15 feet from the mouth of the tunnel. Hogshead and Drax are 30 feet from the mouth. The bonfire is 60 feet from the mouth. The entrance is 100 feet from the mouth.
Jane watches the others cross, wondering if she should help Hogshead and Zerxius with some healing, but they have a goodberry and there might be more serious needs to come. Sizing up the jump across the pit, she backs up 10 feet then runs to the edge and leaps across.
((A bit of retcon due to armor swap and I can make it all the way across this round. YAY!))
Since Hoghead has a shield Drax falls into step behind him matching his pace. (I’m equating moderate here to be a normal travel pace as explained in phb 300ft/minute)
Eyes scanning the surroundings alert for movement and ears trained for the sounds of the scrabbling spiders.
Jane makes the jump across the yawning pit easily, landing comfortably on two feet in the space left open by the dwarves.
Hogshead and Drax make their way down the hallway towards the bonfire, the flickering light casting shadows against the walls, but revealing no threats as they approach.
Rantel jumps over easily, odd for such a creature. He takes a position near the front, ready to try to shield the more injured people from further harm. If they pass the bonfire, he will create another one farther down the tunnel, trying to illuminate things and also provide a mechanism to defend the party and fry more arachnids.
Bree hangs back, covering the party's back trail as Rantel makes the leap - surprisingly nimble for one with a reputation for being slow and plodding.
As Hogshead and Drax approach the blaze on the left-hand side of the tunnel, it goes out, to be replaced by one another 20 feet down the tunnel. The flickering light illuminates the area, giving the two dwarves a fresh look at the stone, the ceiling, and the path forward.
Anyone more than 20 feet from the pit feel free to give me an Investigation roll for the area on the back hall of the tunnel or a Perception roll to see what else may be in the tunnel itself.
Summary:
Hogshead and Drax have just crossed the halfway point - about 50 feet down a 100-foot tunnel.
Zerxius, Rantel, Jane have cleared the pit. Let me know the marching order here - if you've moved and how far.
Hogshead hears the sounds of his comrades making their way down the hallway behind him. the crackle of the bonfire ahead and the sounds of a fight in the room beyond the mouth of the tunnel.
There don't appear to be any other enemies in the tunnel.
Jane looks back at Bree, then ahead to the main group. It seems all the danger is ahead so she will start moving down the tunnel. She puts a hand on Zerxius' shoulder as she walks by. I suppose we had better catch up with everyone. Should we pick up the pace? She is prepared to dash down the tunnel to catch up to the others, holding her torch out to light the way and staying toward the back of the group when they do catch up.
After triple-checking that everyone but her has crossed, Bree takes a few steps back and then runs and leaps over the pit. Once on the other side, she hurries down the tunnel to catch up with everyone.
Drax manages to pull up just short of the slightly darker stones just at the edge of the far end of the tunnel, but Hogshead doesn't. The beardless dwarf triggers the trap, shooting spikes up from the floor, cutting into the dwarf and knocking him forward.
Piercing damage 1
Update
Spikes cover the entire tunnel and are extended 5 feet up into the tunnel - making that 5 ft square count as difficult terrain. Hogshead and Drax are to the north of the spikes and about 5 feet from the end of the tunnel. Everyone else is strung between the bonfire and the spikes (about 20 feet in total)
Hogshead and Drax see the tunnel turn into a walkway over a large chamber open up in front. The walkway crumbles about 10ft from the end of the south end of the chamber (the north end of the tunnel). It picks up again about 15ft from the
The chamber is about 15 ft below the walkway, an uneven natural cavern with a small stream running across the northeast corner.
In the chamber beyond, the Armored Figure is battling another wave of dog-sized spiders in the center while the Giant Spider cowers against the far wall.
