I kind of miss 3.5 'touch AC' but not 'flat-footed AC' although, I do prefer it to the surprised condition of 5e if we compared those two head-to-head, meaning losing the surprise round from 3.5 and instead applying a 'flat-footed' condition. Still, it is one more number to memorize/reference; so much for streamlining, there. But it would mean AC from armor and AC from Dex have a meaningful difference, which i think would be worth it.

The paladin manages to duck under the Cultist's menacing reach, and avert his eyes from the first Nothic, but as he spins around he finds himself staring right at the monocle of the second, and feels a bit of his life force drain away. Shutting his eyes, he turns back to the cultists, and after opening them again he attacks twice more (aiming first at cultists. If none are left, then at Nothics).

Akame clapped his hands and pointed at two of the nothics which seemed hurt already, the sound seeming to take life as it rose in intensity while rushing toward them until it was a gong sound at contact.
(Twinned spell Toll the Dead - each needs to make a Wis save vs DC 18 or take 16 necrotic damage each)
Chadderlay hits one nothic. But it Survives the scorching blast. <inclined to call this N5, which means he gets caught by the aoe, leaving N3 untouched, so far>

Sam is climbing a tower, so not sure how he is attacking or who. Drop down and melee or keep climbing to the top and have 2 hands free but farther away or use 1 handed ranged attack?

<wow. That was a whole combat round. Super fast in rt>
The nothics continue their violent assault of anyone removing on the ground as they press toward the door of the tower.
N1 x Angus 24 for 6, 23 for 6
N3 x Chadderlay 18 for 6, 15 for 6
N4 x Akame 22 for 6, 9 for 6
(Anyone attacked above can take an attack of opportuntiy)
As Sam reaches the top of the spire, he finds Morwena reaching the top of the stairs, emerging amid the rubble of the ruined roof, ice scepter clasped in her hand. She looks at Sam, glances up at the glass chamber floating overhead, then back at Sam, locking eyes with the huge reptile. She hesitates, then starts to fly up toward the chamber effortlessly, landing inside the floating crystal ball, then hands Avarice the staff.

On Chadderlay's turn he will use 2 charges from his staff to cast Levitate on himself and rise straight up into the air.

Angus takes down Nothic 1 and follows Nothics 3 and 4 into the spire, dispatching the latter as it enters, he sees Nothic 3 hop up the first steps, just beyond the reach if his slashing sword, bypassing several as it jumps nimbly up the spiral stairs lining the interior wall of the crumbling stone column.
(Even with the damage from Chadderlay's aoo applied, the nothic would live. It is the only one left)

There were 2, now they're deaf. Still 6 nothics, though, plus Avarice (Teifling) up in the fishbowl.
Edit: they are dead. Although I'm sure they also cannot hear, it seems less relevant.
Chadderlay casts Fire Bolt at one of the nothics.
Attack: 20 Damage: 24 fire damage.
Tetrevess casts fireball on as many of the gnothics as h can hit: 34 damage, Dc 22 reflex for half.

Ducking both of N1's attacks, the paladin retaliates with a longsword slash.
AoO longsword Attack: 15 Damage: 15 magical slashing + 3 radiant damage

Then, on his turn, He will continue to attack nothics, beginning with N1, moving on if it succumbs to the others.

Second longsword Attack: 19 Damage: 8 magical slashing + 3 radiant damage
