(Of course, why didn't I think of that, it's not like there's poison needles or spell traps or heaven forbid paladin-eating uber-mimics in this city :P )
Angus will quietly search the desk and the wardrobe, welcoming the help of anyone else in the party.
Parse error complications. I'm ruling it a failure, so despite having the source of his fear pinned to the ground, the guard is afraid of Sam. Now we need new rolls for those things.
<See this is why S. Barbs is such a drag: it necessitates pretty big retcons. Seems like a PBP exclusive issue, though.>
See #1012.
I don't know why its not parsing anymore. At the time I rolled it, it showed an 18. At this point, you can either take my word for it or not.

< Missed it in simultaneous posting>
In the wardrobe are several immaculately pressed uniforms, adorned with all the rank ensignia and medals appropriate to the captain, bur nor much else. The desk, which you find locked.
<I'm just going to take Tetrevess' roll there and apply it as a Dex check to break in. Youre capable adventurers. It's a desk. I'm sure you can manage.>
Inside the desk, you find a pouch of dark blue velvet, holding three sizeable diamonds (3000gp each), as well as a packet of letters.
Skimming the letters, it's clear they are the intimate correspondence between the knight commander and the wife of a prominent Mulmasterite noble. This is precisely what the theives' guild wants in return for their assistance.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Angus says, "I believe we need a book from the second floor of the library, shall we head that direction?"
If the others agree, he will listen at the door, if clear, open it slightly and look out, if still clear, lead out into the hall, going counterclockwise around the building toward library's upper floor.
Chadderlay follows closely on Angus' heels, using the red badge to allow passage and not raise any undue alarms.
(in a whisper) "So far so good, don't you think, I mean, more or less."

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
(Sorry to be that guy but he wouldn't be attacking under effects of fear:
"While frightened by this spell, a creature must take the Dash action and move away from you by the safest available route on each of its turns, unless there is nowhere to move. If the creature ends its turn in a location where it doesn't have line of sight to you, the creature can make a Wisdom saving throw. On a successful save, the spell ends for that creature." )
EDIT: if you want I can switch silvery barbs for something else. I actually wanted to take Gift of Alacrity initially but you said no chrono magic.

After several retcons, Angus actually wouldn't know this yet, but let's hand-wave that.

Oh, sorry I looked up the frightened condition, not the fear spell. Shortcut fail. Fine, then I just keep my successful 18. Both strikes hit for 19.
Akame is up.
<I do find S. Barbs inconvenient in PBP. Would you be okay with just houseruling it to avoid rerolls just make it like a flat -6 instead?>

Tetrevess will help with searching the library 22 investigation with help from angus and Chadderly. He’s carefully secured the letters and the diamonds.
Neat stacks of books stand scattered on tsbkes and chsirs and across the floor. These have been deemed valuable to Thay and are being categorized and returned to shelves. They are worth 5000gp.
A round cast iron oven is used to heat the chamber. A lone skeleton feeds it with books as the fire begins to wane.
A large sturdy table stands against the far wall, looking onto a clear view of a rift to the olanae of elementsl fire. Sprawled across the table are notes and references to the experiments being performed on the rifts. In contrast to Thayan propaganda, it is clear that the research is focused not in closing the planar rifts, but on harnessing their power.
The skeleton continues minding the fire, heedless of your presence.
Unless someone has a bag of holding, Angus doesn't think we have space or encumbrance room to lug around stacks of books, despite their value. However, the research notes seem important enough to collect and place in our packs.
"Well, that's two of our three objectives," he says. "Now that we have a red badge, we should be able to access the basement. I wish we knew where Sam was and how to rendezvous with him, I believe we will need his help to retrieve the weapon he was looking for."
"So Chadderlay, should we descend the same secret stairs we came up, and then head to the banquet hall and take the downward stairs there, or is there a more direct route to the catacombs?"
Tetrevess puts the most valuable books in his pack, which seems to hold far more than it should (handy haversack). He looks with disapproval at the books being burned, but decides against stopping it. “Yes, let’s keep moving”.

Angus will signal to the others to tread lightly and speak only in whispers. "Find the evidence the guild asked for!" he mouths.
( Tetrevess is the most skilled at investigating of the three, Angus will use the help action to give him advantage.)
I'd like to cast silvery barbs as a reaction to give the guard disadvantage on the Indomitable reroll, and Sam advantage on his next attack.
Or just, you know open something and if it's there, you found it.
