Eric cheers, enjoying the chess game. he goes to his room afterward to rest. Although the room is not much comfortable, the dwarf become pretty much accustomed to sleep under the sky during his wanderings, so he doesn't care much, and settles down for the night.
Zale stares at the game board then looks back up at Khessa, "Ye sure ye never played before?"
"Yes, I'm sure Zale..." Khessa smiles at her friend's doubt "...you're just very good at teaching!" and she winks at her, moving a dwarf-bishop "Check! My dwarf bishop (he looks a bit like Eric, don't you think?) has put your king (which, however, strangely does not look like Eek) in check! Let's see how you do now..."
Zeminny will also watch and cheer. He will say, “ my father used to like playin dragon chest….I used to sneak the pieces to play with in the woods. I broke the dragon piece and tried fixin it with mashed oatmeal for glue….I got whipped good for that one.” He laughs as he relates the story.
When everyone is done with the evening, you pay your 7 cp and get some uncomfortable sleep. (No crazy dreams... for now!)
The next morning you send Anator to the Outer City east of the wall and Isidore to the docks (Perception checks please). Any plans for this drizzly morning?
Eric wakes up before dawn. "I guess better being on the docks the sooner, I have the feeling that the ships will arrive at the first light. We can wait there our little scouts to return" the dwarf says indicating the two familiars.
Eric wakes up before dawn. "I guess better being on the docks the sooner, I have the feeling that the ships will arrive at the first light. We can wait there our little scouts to return" the dwarf says indicating the two familiars.
"Why not?" agrees Khessa, who also has a habit of getting up early in the morning (a legacy of her childhood spent helping with work on the farm and in the fields) "Now that I've finally been on a real ship, I'm really curious to visit a real port too! The world is so... so new to me!" her blue eyes get a little dreamy"Even this city... never seen so many houses and so many people all together! If we, in Twardens, few as we were, collaborating together and helping each other, managed to face most of the difficulties, how easier should be things here! This must be one of the least troubled places in the world!"
"Unfortunately I am afraid that is not that simple" Eric nods "the bigger the city, the bigger the trouble, and the people are all the same. furthermore, In the bigger communities, people are often less prone to help each other, I am afraid. If you wander around; I'm sure you're going to find more poor, beggars and rogues than in smaller places. Better try not looking like an innocent fellow from the countryside and not letting our guard off"
Zale stifles a laugh at Khessa's ignorant remark. Then clears her throat and says, "Eric do be right. City folk tend to be much more rude than those countryfolk, and the poorer parts of large cities are basically cesspools of badfolks..." She trails off as she realizes she probably would fit into that group. Before this whole Greenest incident she was just a common thief. A thief with a greater goal, but a thief nonetheless.
Zeminny will echo the sentiments already expressed. “ the bigger the city, the bigger the crooks….and the worse the smell.” He wrinkles his nose a bit as he says this. “ but, with great risk, comes great reward, a fella can make quite a bit of gold with a few roll o’ the dice, or by nabbing one or two notorious crooks.”
Khessa looks shocked, surprised and disappointed all at the same time as she hears what her more experienced friends tell her.
After keeping her mouth open for a while, she manages to say: "Oh... I see... I must have sounded really naive, huh? Besides, I can well believe that there are bad people too... otherwise, Cult of the Dragon wouldn't exist! But really... yes, it's a pity that things turn out the way you're telling me. And, mind me, I believe they do, ok? So, indeed, thank you all for opening my eyes before I could maybe put too much faith in the wrong people".
"But I still think it's...wrong" insists the blonde arcane warrior, maybe speaking more to herself than to the others. "This state of things is wrong. It's a missed opportunity... So many people! Can you imagine what a wonderful place this could be, if everyone were supportive of each other and if they all actively helped each other? This way, instead... ah, all right, there's nothing I can do about it at the moment - so" she ends up smiling to all her friends, in quite a good mood again "I'll at least try to enjoy the visit to the port anyway, as long as our winged friends don't come to warn us of news!"
Anator notices a few wagons at the horizon. They're making slow progress. Anator thinks they'll reach the Outer City around noon.
Anator finds Khessa while she is still intent (probably with her companions?) exploring the port and its marvels fascinated, often asking for explanations and details from her more experienced seafaring friends (she looks at the various different ships, the disparate goods transported, any contraptions that help in loading or unloading, if any...).
The familiar lands discreetly on the shoulder of the blonde arcane warrior and reports telepathically; whereupon she immediately warns her companions: "They are coming! A few wagons at the horizon, making slow progress (maybe because heavily loaded?). They'll reach the Outer City around noon. Let's warn Ackyn".
And, if no one has different proposals, the tall adventuress leads the way to Ackyn and, as soon as they are alone with him, she tells him the news.
Zeminny will keep an eye out for any wanted poster the stroll about, trying to record any faces into his memory just in case they happen upon one…he also keeps his coin pouch tucked in his pants to avoid Pickety pockety types
