Judging by the tattoos Khessa could conclude that Azbara Jos is Thayan. He's a bit disappointed if you let him know that his clever disguise didn't work. Make a History check to see if you know more about Thay.

Kriv will spend the day exploring the town and surrounding area. He keeps looking over his shoulder, worried that someone way still be following him. If he can find a secluded piece of nature, he will spend some time enjoying the quiet and pondering the origins of his maul.

History: 19
Persuasion: 20
Countless Thayans fled their country when the lich Szass Tam seized control, so they are not entirely strange on the Sword Coast. If questioned, Jos claims to be just another Thayan expatriate trying to find refuge while his country is controlled by undead monsters.
I... can't... take you as an apprentice, how intriguing that may be... You should try Waterdeep, there's countless of wizards there. Or so I've been told... For now you should focus on your cantrips, they can be much more... potent. You get the feeling this must be the longest conservation Jos had since he came to the Sword Coast. He's clearly uncomfortable and not used to sharing (but well, you rolled high).
Kriv will spend the day exploring the town and surrounding area. He keeps looking over his shoulder, worried that someone way still be following him. If he can find a secluded piece of nature, he will spend some time enjoying the quiet and pondering the origins of his maul.
The rain pours down during your musings. A young oak gives you some shelter as you run your fingers over the decorations of your maul. For a moment the drops seem to fall slower and you feel "lighter".
Then you hear someone cursing in the distance and the moment is gone.

'Countless Thayans fled their country when the lich Szass Tam seized control...' thinks Khessa 'But Azbara is certainly not just another Thayan expatriate trying to find refuge while his country is controlled by undead monsters... He is in contact with the Cult of the Dragon! No, the Cult of the Dragon is probably looking to buy help from the Red Wizards - if not from Szass Tam himself, given the amount of loot. It remains to understand for what. Perhaps to create some Dracoliches... Who better than a lich could help them in this?'
"You know what Azbara? Even the last piece of advice you gave me proves how brilliant you are..." the blonde arcane warrior looks at him admiringly with her own blue eyes "I think I'll treasure it... Cantrips are always so underrated... yet, sometimes it's the underrated elements that can be decisive. All in all, cantrips are always available, no matter how depleted your arcane energies are! Thank you so much!"
"And it's a pity that you 'can't take me as an apprentice'..." sighs the tall adventuress "I also think it would have been 'intriguing'... Who knows what dark secrets you managed to bring with you from your country! Secrets that perhaps would scare lesser souls... but that would probably only increase my thirst for knowledge! Plus, who knows how boring it must be, traveling in a foreign land with no one to talk to about interesting topics like magic... Well, if you change your mind before the end of the journey, just let me know, okay? If not, of course, I'll settle for some lame and boring wizards from Waterdeep".
"Shall we exchange a few spells before we part ways?" Finally Khesa offers "You certainly know many that I don't know yet... but if by chance you miss some spell that is in my grimoire, we could make an exchange... I copy one of yours and you one of mine... Shall we? Neither of us has anything to lose - that's exactly what has always fascinated me about knowledge, by the way... by sharing it, it doesn't decrease, but, on the contrary, it increases for everyone".
Zale eventually wakes up, then stares blurry eyed at whoever fills her in on what happened the previous night. After the information sinks in, she shakes herself, "Ye done be serious?! How in the bloody depths did I manage to sleep through that whole thing?!" She grasps her head, "Blast me, I let me guard down. I be glad ya'll got it all handled."
Zale will let Khessa and Eric do whatever they want, and instead stick with Kriv. The rouge doesn't have much interest in the arcane. Sure, she's the only one in the party who can't use magic, but that's just fine. So unless she spontaneously gains the ability to call lightning from the sky rather than simply spit it from her throat, she's content letting the others talk spells. ...not to mention she feels terrible that she didn't get to help Kriv with the cultist earlier, so now she's decided she's not going to leave her fellow dragonborn alone where someone might decide to try to get the jump on him again.
Eventually, she senses that he does want to be alone, so she allows him to wander into that secluded part of the forest. She isn't sure why, since it's raining, but doesn't question it. Though it does hit her finding someone alone in a storm would be a great time to murder them... Rain means constant noise, which means it's easier to sneak up on someone. With these thoughts running through her mind, she nods to herself, then attempts to stealthily follow after Kriv. She doesn't want to be seen by Kriv or anyone who might be following him.

Zale sneaks after Kriv. The sound of the rain masks her clumsy approach. Unfortunately, she does not notice a large tree root and trips over it only to bump her knee against a sharp stone. She curses loudly (see post # 3503).

I doubt you have anything to offer me, but Ill do you one better. It takes years to master your cantrips the way I do. I have means to help you with that, means that allow you to unlock the full potency of your cantrips!
He gives you good look, obviously judging you.
However, in these times... It's hard to gauge where everyone's loyalties lie. So here's what we do: I'm going to walk away and if you're one of those undead fanatics you'll remain seated. I urge you to never show your face again if you do. If you really want to unlock your full potential, and are not so scared as lesser souls, you'll follow me to my room.
Azbara Jos gets up and walks away without looking back.
The Thayan wizard, Azbara Jos, has invited me to his room. If I don't come back, be ready to come and find me, okay?
This is the note that Khessa writes in haste, while Azbara walks away without looking back. She entrusts the note to Anator, sending him to find Eric and deliver it to her.
The blonde arcane warrior then gets up, as if she had made a sudden decision and hurries to follow the other: "You did surprise me. I didn't know there could be external help to refine the cantrips... I thought it was all a matter of practice and personal dedication. You really intrigue me, Azbara..."

Jos doesn't respond. He nods to a Cultist and it keeps watch outside his room after you've both entered. In his room he show a small smile.
I knew you had the sprak! I could feel it right away! In order to unlock the full pontency of your cantrips I'll have to place a small mark. It can be easily mistaken for a mole or tattoo, but I suggest we'd place it somewhere you can keep it hidden.

"Tell me more about this mark..." Khessa tries to remember whatever she might know or have heared about this subject "How does it work?" she in particular goes on with questions to undetstand the arcane process involved - and she also asks if the mark will work immediately or will need time or activation and also if it has drawbacks.
Finally: "Can you draw the mark on a scroll first? I'd like to examine it!"
Jos goes into detail about the mark [[OOC it requires attunement, but that happens instantly by Jos and gives you the Potent Cantrip feat (When you cast an evocation cantrip and misses, or the target succeeds on its saving throw, the target still takes half the cantrip’s damage but suffers no other effect)]] but remains vague about the arcane process.

I can show you mine?
"Yes, please!" Khessa accepts and examines the mark "Just one last question... why do you suggest to keep it hidden? What can happen if the mark is seen?"
"Well, Azbara..." Khessa smiles back "I have nothing against 'five-pointed stars' and I am honored to accept your mark. You can put it on the nape, for example," she pushes back the long thick blonde curls "no one will see it there - unless I show it to them. But, at this point, I think you can trust me enough to be more specific... I'll keep it hidden by default, that's granted, but... there are particular factions that I must be especially careful not to show it? And maybe other factions that I might get help from, if I show it instead?"

Azbara Jos places a finger on the spot you indicated and speaks a word in Draconic. It tickles a bit but that's it.
Oh, I wouldn't show this to anyone. Not even our own faction, since it's... you know, divided. It's better if we're not seen together for a while. Don't worry, I have ways to get in touch with you.
He opens the door and motions for you to leave.
