He starts looking for seagulls near the tower that look like they're up to something -- ones that are watching the party, probably. If he finds one, he addresses it as if it's Irongrass. "Mister Ironmage, we come seeking answers."
Sparhawk would be unable to find tracks since there is so much foot traffic going in and out of the tower at this time of day. It is the current date and time. there is a line to get into the tower and there is two guards patting down visitors for weapons or magical devices. You notice a shady looking character try and sneak past the pat down and just about makes it to the door when the red eye falls upon him. He is lifted from the ground in that red energy and beam scans him. The light settles onto an area near his mid section for a second and then the guy erupts into flames and burns to dust and bones. The bones fall into a heap as the ashes are carried away by the breeze…the guards chuckle a bit as they keep up with their duties.

Sparhawk sees the man explode. "I guess I got lucky last time. Perhaps Vars headed back to the house?" he surmises. "I"m guessing this is just a fast way for the wizards to visit their tower. Instead of waiting in line, should we head back to the house and see if we find him there?"

As Sorsha look around she notices a man speaking with a poor looking fellow Down a ways on the bridge, about half way across. Looks like making some kind of deal. The man could be Vars, it from this distance you can’t quite tell.
Sorsha looks at the line in front of them while considering Sparhawks suggestion. "Sure, let's head over to the house first." She says and motions for the others to follow.
Buuuut as she is about to leave for the house she notices the man looking a bit like Vars on the bridge, moving closer to get a better look, motioning for the others to follow. "Hey Vars!" She calls out as she gets closer.

"The house seems to be a bit of a wild goose chase. As our bugbear friend is getting away, perhaps we should re-evaluate the order of the two jobs. Also, not sure about you, but I'd rather face a bugbear than a deadly rug." Sparhawk chuckles to break the tense mood of the group.

Vars is a bit of a ways ahead of you and cannot quite hear you as he concludes whatever business he was engaged with. The man he was talking to scampers off quickly off the bridge towards blood Island
Bjorn waits to make sure other people can still perceive the party. That we haven't gone missing like Abernath did.
"Well, that was something. You think if we took the painting, we could use it to teleport here from anywhere? Maybe we could use it to rescue Abernath when we find him." He's pretty sure nobody's going to take this seriously, but he says it just in case. "You could teleport anything here. A bear? An angry wizard? Just point the painting at them, they're gone."
"It seems we found our missing crew member at least."Sorsha says as they approach Vars. "So if this painting simply teleports you to the Host Tower it was likely not the reason Abernath is missing. There could still be clues at the house though so let's head back there, just stay away from that painting for now. Depending on the outcome of our investigation we might borrow it I guess, provided we find a way to bring it with us without getting crewmembers teleported back here."
“It sounds like a good experiment to try the painting. Let’s head back and look a bit more vars, everything ok?” Sparhawk definitely feels more comfortable outside than in the trap filled food preserved home.
(Yup, still here. I was just waiting for everyone to catch up lol)
Vars turns in surprise as everyone approaches him, obviously having been completely oblivious to their approach prior to Sparhawk’s question.
Then he laughs, “Well at least the painting didn’t attack me.” Fingering something under his cloak he says, “You caught up awful fast, did you all jump through after me?” He chuckles a little as he reveals a leather tube. Then he says, “Yes, I’m alright. Take a look at this, I just bought it off that old man.” He gestures in the direction the older fellow went off in. “May be worth looking into, more loot in the direction we are already heading.”
You make your way back to house 13. The streets are very busy and both the south and North market are very crowded, up you make your way through and are back on the porch of Abernath’s glorious abode. It seems a little but unsettling on how small it looks out side compared to the space available inside.

“Are we at a different time of day or date?” Sparhawk wonders out loud.
Bjorn looks relieved by Sorsha's suggestion.

As we approach,
"Hey, my friend, good to see you." Says Sparhawk as they draw closer.
Frangipani is a bit disappointed at the short trip, but scans the area nonetheless.
" No wizard here........well, lots of wizards...just not the right one."
She grins as the criminal gets zapped, it wouldn't be a bad way to go....

"Hm! That's a decent scheme. Low investment to buy parchment, and your mark is guaranteed to leave town." Bjorn flashes an evil grin at Vars.
