Bjorn awkwardly squats next to the dead mimic and retrieves his axes. "I think we just dealt with the protection in this room. That door was hidden and guarded, surely it's not trapped as well."
"Frangipani, do you think you can help me here? I, ah, think I need to cut out this thing's heart."

"The old crones promised me I'd never be caught without a weapon, and so far they've been... Technically correct." He cringes a bit as he takes off his cloak and rolls up his sleeves. "I suspect the axe isn't the best tool for the job. Hm."
Vars walks over to the hidden door glancing in to investigate. (Just as a refresher, how big was this hidden door again?)
investigation: 23
It was the size of the large book that was covering it, like a large family bible. The door has a half-moon shaped cutout that can be used to pull it open. You open the door to the secret compartment and find two scrolls. One of the scrolls has a large drawing of a tower with the word “one” drawn in fancy illumination style below it. The other scroll seems to be a spell scroll of some sort. Vars almost missed it, but one last look inside he sees an old, burnished bronze key all the way at the back
Seeing the key, Sparkhawk looks around the room for any container that would have a matching keyhole (Investigation: 5
"I wonder where that key goes to?"
Sparhawk loans Bjorn his dagger to cut out the "heart."
Sparhawk finds nothing that requires a key in this room
after some assistance from the party Bjorn is able to complete his task of removing the disgusting blackish/ purple clump that is the mimics heart. Hopefully he has a suitable container to put it in. The smell is truly dreadful.
Vars briefly glances over the scrolls, pausing for a moment on the one with the tower and the word "one" on it. He frowns, "Could this have something to do with that piece of writing we found earlier? ...one is none, and three are one?" He pauses again, still frowning. After a moment he shakes his head and tucks the scroll under his arm to investigate the key. Then he offers the spell scroll to Sorsha, "You or Bjorn could make better use of this than me."
[Would it be Arcana to understand how to safely handle spell scrolls? Also, is there any way to know what a scroll does without casting Identify?]
Bjorn grabs the mimic heart and tries not to look directly at it. Through gritted teeth, he grunts, "I'm going to revisit that room full of jars. Anybody want anything? Eye of newt?"

"Yes, I would bet it does. Again, the saying means, you need more than one way of getting something done. Then, if one fails, you have other ways. If you only bring one way to light a fire and you lose your flint, you have no way to light it." Sparhawk, thinks for a bit. "A healing potion would be helpful. Any guesses where this key goes to yet? Also, at some point, we should rest. I'm spent!"

Arcana would let you read over the scroll to see if you understand it, otherwise identify would be your method. You will only be able to read it using arcana if it is your type of spell. If it isn’t not you will be able to tell what school or class it is for at minimum
if you all take a short rest, you can study it. Roll and arcana during the rest to see how much you figure out about it.
(How do we get back our spell slots/ abilities used during our last encounter?)
[Some of them come back when you finish a short rest, others when you finish a long rest. Each feature will tell you. For Paladins, most features return on long rests.]
[Tactically speaking, you usually want to use your hit dice during short rests to heal. At level 2 you have 2 of them per long rest.]
[If you're asking how to actually use the digital character sheet to log these things, I'm not the best one to ask. My advice would be to write your current sheet on paper, and then click buttons randomly to see what happens. If you mess it up, that's why you wrote it on paper lol.]
At the top of your digital sheet there is a button that says short rest, click on that to use a hit dice to regain some hp. I think your spells slots require full rest to recover, so use them wisely.

"Yes, that makes sense, though I wonder if there could be another meaning here...like, what if there are three of these towers. Each could do or hold something important. One is none could mean that one is useless without the other two. Like they are components of a puzzle..." Vars stuffs the scroll into one of the pockets in his cloak. "You're probably right though. I'm just throwing out other possibilities..." He trails off, grumbling as he thinks up other ways to make the saying make sense, both with Sparhawk's meaning and other possible ones."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I suppose there could be a riddle here but it would be to soon to solve it, let's just keep our eyes open for more clues for now."Sorsha says as she, with some disgust, watches how the blob is disected but then turns her attention to the scroll that she is offered. She finds a seat by the far wall from the blob, intending to take a short rest while studying the arcane scroll.
“Vars, I agree with you. Perhaps three towers are needed to use some spell, or get to a location. “ Sparhawk rubs his scruffy chin in thought.
(I didn’t know about short rests, if DM let’s me, I’ll take back the lay on hands and see how the hit dice help. I’ll need a long rest before we visit our big bear friend. )
