Kyrsa gives the box a tired look before saying, "It would appear so, but I am not sure. For all we know there could be another locked box like this in the other room. He said the lockbox was in the main office, but as it is I don't know which of these two offices is the 'main' one." She looks back towards the door, "Though I suppose it is a safe guess."
She walks over to the desk, "If we must wait for the others to get up here, then we might as well see if there is anything else of value in this room. If it isn't worth taking, we can us it as fire starter." She smiles a little at the thought, and begins rummaging through the desk, searching for any sort of documents.
"If the boys take to long, then I might try to break the lock. It might be elaborate but if I can hit it hard enough at the right angle...well it might break." She taps the pommel of one of her swords as if pondering whether or not to bash the lock right now.
"Which stair should we take? Our lockpicking skills are needed."
Jhaartael responds quietly after a glance around... "Let's take the main ones up and not waste time. We can also cover ourselves by setting a fire in the main stairs and retreating by the others."
No, all the guards ran downstairs. The supposed Chief and a goblin locked themselves into the SE office, but hopefully they'll stay there. We made it to the NE office and have a safe in need! Also, might still need to get into the NW office as well? Not sure yet. Mina responds to Akyan
Jhaartael, the gruff orc, glowers at the clerk and then at the guard. "Keep your head down and your nose clean," he growls at the clerk. To the guard he says, "For the purposes of the test, remember what you have seen. You may be asked later."
As he walks along, Jhaartael ponders the clerk's interactions with your crew, and comes to the startling realization that while the clerk acted in a submissive way, he never actually appeared fearful or frightened. It was as if he were observing you, and playing along with your charade. But there was no trembling, no perspiration, no wide pupils or flared nostrils. No physical or verbals signs of stress.
Kyrsa... walks over to the desk, "If we must wait for the others to get up here, then we might as well see if there is anything else of value in this room. If it isn't worth taking, we can us it as fire starter." She smiles a little at the thought, and begins rummaging through the desk, searching for any sort of documents.
It becomes apparent from the papers she finds that this floor had the responsibility to oversee the cartel's slavery businesses (much as the floor below was in charge of protection rackets). Much of the paperwork is meaningless (to Kyrsa) numbers, addresses, inventories and requisitions. But in a filing cabinet she locates some personnel files, and under "Recent promotions" she finds a folder labelled "Thamior".

It was as if he were observing you, and playing along with your charade. But there was no trembling, no perspiration, no wide pupils or flared nostrils. No physical or verbals signs of stress.
((Slight rewind)) Before leaving the room, Jhaartael stops as if struck. He pivots on his feet and marches back to the bound, gagged and blindfolded clerk. ((assuming the clerk's glasses were removed prior to placement of the blindfold - but if not he will remove them, place them on the desk and replace the blindfold)). He takes the spectacles from the desk again and raises them to his eyes. He half-turns towards his companions, peering at them in the door through the lenses.
((What does he see when he looks at his comrades???))
"Hmmm" he says, pocketing the spectacles and following his companions.
Kyrsa crumples up or tears whatever paperwork she deems useless, and then pauses when she sees the folder. "Mina... this might interest you," she pulls out the folder and holds it out to Mina so that she can see the name on it. "I think this is the only thing of use to us here." Once Mina takes the folder, Kyrsa returns to the desk and pulls out more of the paperwork to crumble or tear it up. She keeps some of it for kindling, but lets the rest fall to the floor.
Since she hasn't been privy to the conversation between Mina and Akyan she asks Akyan, "Are you three on your way? We might have found the lockbox but we've no way to open it."
Jhaartael ascends with the others as they all convene on the floor above. He positions himself in the central area where he draws forth two flasks of oil and stands watching and guarding. In particular he listens for any indication of people returning up the main stairs.
Jhaartael picks up the spectacles and tries them on. Looking through them, he sees some very blurry half-orcs that are shimmery, but that might be because he knows their appearances to be illusions. Outside he climbs the stairs, and so far he hears no sounds of ascending enemies.
Lyndaran, looking up, sees no signs of descending enemies, and moves up to the third floor.
Kyrsa indulges her inner desire to be a litterbug.
Akyan runs up the stairs, followed by Tamryn, and they head through the northern double doors, spying their companions through the open door on the east.
(So, looking back, I don't think I ever had Nyblond explain exactly which documents he was looking for, so here's the retcon:
"The documents I desire are in the third floor's office safe. They detail how Lady Viper, one of The Seven, has been embezzling money from the cartel, taking more than her share of the profits, and disguising it with creative accounting. One of her underlings flipped on her, and revealed it to the third-floor boss, along with the proof. That boss, Sikes, is holding on to the documents until he can turn them in to his master, Lord Python, who will then use the evidence to oust his rival from the council and have her killed. Nice as that would be, I think the DCL can actually use this information as leverage to place an operative close to The Seven, and find out which of them is from Team One. This is what I need you to retrieve." )
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"And you think that could be here?" asks Lyndaran to Kyrsa and Mina already inspecting the lock.
"Ok It's been a while since I tired one of this but let's give it a try, we have no time for doubts. " he says already producing a tattered leather roll which he unrolls showing some small pointing metal tools of diferent sizes and forms. Picking a couple of them he looks a last moment to the others "Wish me luck" he says and proceed to try to open the lock.
( Invetigation looking for traps: 12

I still don't know the results but despite his decisive actions he will stop to receive some magical bump or actual help for someone )
Tamryn says, "If Nyblond says that the boss of the third floor was keeping the evidence with him, then I imagine that it is in the other office with the boss."
Mina kneels down to help Lyndaran (so if you want to roll that sleight of hand again.. :) )
As she does so, she replies to Tamryn, "the Chief came from the double doors, so he was originally in either this room or the NW room. Let's look in this safe, but if you want, feel free to try and unlock the NW office. Either way, we better be quick about it."
Lyndaran does find a rather mundane poisoned-needle trap on the lock mechanism. DC 10 Thieves' tools roll to disarm. He also suspects the key to the complicated, possibly magical lock might be something other than an ordinary key. The opening has an odd shape. Perhaps a ring or an amulet or some sort of carving would fit into the depression on the lock?
While Lyndaran and Mina try to open the lockbox, Akyan does his own investigation of the two rooms, before pulling out his own thieves tools and inspecting the lock on the NW office. "Do you think the Chief and the Goblin are in this room?" He asks quietly, "Do you have any clue where they went?"
"The goblin and the chief went down with the guards to 'secure the days earnings'," Kyrsa says to Akyan. "We are, so far as we know, the only ones on this level." She looks around, "One of these two offices must be the main one, so unless there is another one of these boxes in the other room, then this must be the lockbox Nyblond was talking about... unless there is a hidden room in here somewhere."

"We are clear" informs Lyndaran to the others "We need to move now and be quick about it..."
He then walks out and heads for the staircase and looks up before urging the others to follow him and go up to join the rest of the team.
