Valathar accepts the dynamite with careful hands, and slides it into his belt, tightening it a little to keep it snug. “Alright, let’s send him in. We’re never going to be more ready. Remember, we need to get Gundren back alive if we can. Fingers crossed. If they do come charging out the entrance, I’ve got a little surprised for them as well. We’re surrounded by trees, and the trees are my friends.” Valathar closes and opens one scaly brown eye at Kor, in a strange attempt at a wink.
He then sidles up behind Kor and Mav, ready to follow them out when they start.
I've got the Entangle spell prepared, so we can slow them down if they come charging out.
“Alright Kor, get that spider thing ready and I’ll explain to Stonebitter what we need him to do.” Mav goes over to Stonebitter and Bat-Ears and explains part of what is going to happen. “Now Stonebitter, we need you go in, convince Klarg to speak with us, then come out.” Mav does this and tries to reassure Stonebitter that this is the best way to ensure no one else gets hurt.
At this point when we send Stonebitter in I’m going to assume we get into a surprise attack formation Incase things go south
"You're up little guy," Kor says to his familiar. The spider waves it forelegs excitedly then moves to covertly creep up the goblin to rest on its back unseen and unnoticed as Mav is talking to him.
When the spider is in place, Kor whispers an incantation and the spider is covered by an illusory image resembling the color and texture of the goblin's shirt. It probably won't hold up well in daylight, but in the darkness the spider was near invisible.
Spider Stealth: 17
Rolled at advantage due to Mav distracting Stonebiter by talking to him. We can use the first number if that wasn't right.
The plan is all set, Cragmaw, fitted with one stealthy (possibly invisible? I don't remember) spider familiar starts walking nervously towards the mouth of the cave. He quietly trudges through the stream with what looks like years of experience doing so, it seems like their isn't an easy way of cheating your way past that noisy alarm, and is swallowed up from vision into the mouth of the cave.
Kor, you activate your link with the spider familiar, and lose/dull most of your own senses as a result. But there's one complication. Although your hearing is fine, you've never had the opportunity to see with eight separate eyes! It's not crippling, just extremely disorienting, and you will suffer disadvantage for any sight based perception checks while using the familiar's eyes for the foreseeable future.
Familiar Perspective: The Goblin that you're familiar is riding upon immediately starts muttering curses under his breathe as soon as he enters the cave. "Oh boyieo, boss man Klarg is gonna have me 'ead stuffed and mounted on 'is shield, yes, oh yes. Wifey said "Oh Stoney, take the ambush job, Anklebitter wants that new dwarf toy with 16 bloody points of articulation" or whatever shite he's always whining about, worst bloody mistake of my life, no more crime and villioney for me, no man, clean slate if I survive this bloody fiasco!"
The goblin hugs the right side of the cave walls, the entire left portion seems to be that running stream even further into the cave. The goblin passes a room, and subtly shifts himself to let the spider have a gander, before continuing to walk forwards on this path deeper into the cave. Kor roll a perception check at disadvantage to see if you can get a good look into the room.
Stonebitter still walking on the path, that is very gently curving right at this point, a good thirty feet forwards of room to the right, the spider sees a bridge connecting two rooms twenty feet above the stream.
The Goblin continues going down the path that is curving right at this point, stops at a solid rock wall. There is no more going fowards at this point on the dry strip of land, but the stream to the left continues going forwards, and there's a large stairway to the right of the block off. The goblin takes a deep breathe and starts ascending the stairs.
I'll stop there for now, don't want to make it too long. Ill give an updated map once Kor makes the perception roll, and Stonebitter ascends the stairs.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Connecting to the spider's senses through their telepathic link would have brought Kor to his knees if he wasn't already squatting down. He did not anticipate what looking through so many eyes would be like. After focusing for a moment, he was able to get his bearings back somewhat. As Stonebiter went into the cave, Kor softly narrated what he was seeing and hearing for the benefit of the others.
Kor, the room your spider familiar briefly glanced into was room 3. Because the time it had to take in the room before Stonebitter moved on was short, you only received some information about it. The room is filled with bone's of all sizes, and you saw three gray, fuzzly blurs bigger then average sized goblins by the stone pillar in the middle of the room.
Back to Stonebitter's perspective!
Stonebitter ascended the stairs into area 7. a loud, crashing, rumbling sound dominated your familiars hearing. A quick look around the room reveals that the cave's stream is being fed from two large pools of water, with a waterfall crashing down into the rightmost pool from a source way up above in the cave. A man-or should I say-goblin made damn prevents the water from surging out the vast pools and into the stream, and you can see complex mechanisms, levers, and pullies all around the damn.
Three goblins work in this area, and one of them goes to meet Stonebitter. Due to the Waterfall, and general distortion of the sense bond that you two are still getting familiar with, you can only listen to the tail end of their short conversation.
"-dead man. Klarg is up there, better not keep 'm waiting."
Stonebitter turns from the Goblin without another word, or even physical gesture, and trudges up another set of natural stone steps into Area 8.
Sacks and crates of looted provision are piled up in the south end of the large room. To the left, a large hole drops down to what you assume would be room 3, and more boxes are piled up on the right side of the room. The center is what has your attention though, a large, larger then Mav even, figure with matted brown fur and rusty looking armor sits beside a campfire with a mangy wolf pet, and two goblin companions.
When Stonebitter approaches, the figure turns, and his front is shadowed from the roaring fire behind him, identifying what it looks like would take both a stealth and perception roll (stealth neutral, perception at disadvantage), but you can hear him just fine.
"Whadda we 'ave here 'hm?" After a few seconds of awkward, intimidated silence, the figure roars "Speak ya 'nin!"
Intimidation Roll: 17
StoneBitter suddenly falls to his knees, the sudden motion could dislodge the spider! Roll a spider athletics check please Kor.
The fey spirit is nearly vibrating with excitement. It doesn't completely understand the significance of some of the things it sees, but it knows its summoner, whom it can feel through strongly through the active link, has a grand trick planned. The spirit feels Kor's anticipation and it feeds into its own making it hard for it to remain still--

Spider Stealth (if it's supposed to be Kor stealth -1): 10

Your little spider familiar manages to find purchase on the fabric of Stonebitter's small shirt, and remains perfectly hidden from Stonebitter, Klarg, and even the wolf, good job on that stealth roll. It however does not manage to get much information on who or what the furry leader Klarg is, other then he seems to have bulging muscles even when in an relaxed position.
"Well, ah, boss, the ambush didn't really work out to good. I got a good chunk outta 'em, don't you worry, but had'ta make a tactile retreat, had'ta inform ya you know? Anyways, they's be wanting a "parelys" or summit, they've gots Bat-Ears, ahm, one of your henchmen, and in a good positions to go get a towns guard now that they know where the base is, who's knows what Bat-Ears been telling 'em. They's be wanting the human back me thinks" Stonebitter finishes nervously, still on his hands and knees not daring to look up.
Klarg seems to take in all of this silently, and is unmoving still even when Stonebitter finishes his confession. A few charged seconds pass before he speaks up.
"Tell 'em that I don't care 'bout no stupid henchmen they's got, I got plentey more. The prisoner is 500 gold, no less, and I want's it in a nice chest right 'ere by the fire by tomorrow morning. Oh, and tell them that if I see "Bat-Ears" he's good as dead for getting captured."
Klarg then turns back to the fire, an obvious dismissal for Stonebitter.
Stonebitter will immediately head back towards you guys using the same path as before. Kor if you want Mr. Spider to do anything or take any rolls, nows the time. You other guys feel free to plan and roleplay, balls back in your court.
Noticing Stonebitter was retracting his steps, Kor realized it was time for his familiar to go solo. They still hadn't located Gundren, and what's this talk about a human? Were they talking about Gundren's bodyguard? Plus, they had only mentioned one prisoner, it that prisoner was human, it meant Gundren wasn't here. Kor scrubbed his memory back to when he met his employer in order to remember who this bodyguard was. None of this added up and none of it was good.
Kor sent a mental command for his familiar to try to scout as much of the rest of the cave as possible in attempt to locate the prisoner they spoke of and to inform him when it was entering a new room so that he could watch through its senses. He then backed out the connection so he could share his thoughts with the others and get their take on things.

Spider stealth (to explore parts of the cave he hasn't yet seen): 18
Kor, to be entirely honest, you barely even remembered Gundren had a body guard, much less what they looked like. Your mind must have been really out of it during the recruitment process or something.
Your spider scuttles up the side of the caverns to the bridge area. One entrance to the bridge is the damn/pool area of the cave, while the other has yet to be explored. In it you find a massive kitchen area with multiple goblins preparing a large kettle of soup. You notice there seems to be a overlooking room complete with a wooden porch/ledge above the kitchen area, but if you want to explore this area, you'll have to make either three separate stealth rolls to take the stair way up (one to get across the kitchen, one to climb up the stairs, and one for a mysterioussss reason), or a stealth and athletics check to scuttle up the ledge/porch wall.
Also, Stonebitter makes it to your group and truthfully relays the information you guys got from the spider familiar. He gives a weird glance at Kor’s completely motionless body laid out across the wagons floor, but doesn’t comment.
He seems to be waiting for a response from you guys.
OOC: the link seems to be dead, I get a 404 error. Also spider's have an ability: Spider Climb. The spider can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check. Is the athletics check still necessary? If so, I'll likely go for the 3 stealth rolls because my spider skips leg day.
You’re spider familiar scuttles his way to the ledge’s safety bars, to come face to face with one angry looking goblin. His skin is a shade darker then the others, and his thin hair a striking white color.
Roll: 15
The goblin stares down at the spider and gives out a hearty chuckle.
“Nice familiar yous got their buddy. You can eith’ puff out now, ‘r you could listen to this old goblins offer. A simple yes gesture ‘uld work.”
Kor was ready to have his connection severed with the death of his familiar, but was surprised when he instead received an offer. A lot of surprises today, this was supposed to be an easy job, Keith thought to himself cynically. He would listen to this offer though, there was no reason not to. The fey spirit couldn't really die away from its own Plane, it would only be sent back where he could summon it again, in a less creepier form, at a later time.
“Good, good. Goblin culture c’n be brutish, you know. We’s only got loyalty to our leader when ‘es alive and able to bash ‘n our skulls, but goblins make good cannon fod’. That’s what ‘eves got to be talking about. If ya’s be killing Klarg, and ‘is two little cap’ins hes always got by ‘is side, I’ll be next in line to lead this clan. If you’s can keep casualties and prop’ damadge to a minimum, your buddy will turn up alive in the woods next to Phan’ tommarow morn’. Now get’.” With that the goblin raises his hand in an obviously swatting gesture, giving you about 2 seconds to poof out your familiar.
You’re familiar diddnt get too good of a look into the room they were in, other that it seemed to pretty spacious and had more metal then most rooms in the base did.
After listening to the white haired goblin, Kor quickly dismissed his familiar. "That was certainly interesting." He informed the others of the goblins offer, then went silent as he considered it himself.
Stonebitter chimes in “That sounds like Yeemik, loon’ ‘e is, yessir, if he doesn’t drop dead in the next week from old age, ‘ed probably drive the clan into ruin with ‘is dark magic. Worships dragons of all things, can you believe? He’d probably sell the clan to the big ol’ Green bastard in the Neverwinter woods then serve the king, the bastard. I don’t know e’s trustworthy, likes to play with words that one. Klarg’s a brute, but ‘el keep his word if you can get the gold or summit else.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kor considered the goblin's words. Stonebitter had proven surprisingly trustworthy considering the circumstances, but Kor certainly didn't come this far on "trust." Well, he guessed he did, it was just misplaced trust that his marks put in his words. Kor wouldn't make the same mistake, he studied the goblin to determine the truth of his words.
