"I walk in front," Sam says coldly. "And there's not a person I'd want at my back more than Elthana... You just point the way and may be not poke at sore spots until this is all over, eh?" Sam then moves his eyes to Elthana and gives her a smile. "Don't worry, we got this... And we'll deal with whatever is next next."
Before Muir can pepper Elthana with questions, Serafina saves her. Although Elthana probably would have Muir's questions instead. Muir sighs and walks near Serafina and Elthana and says in an unchracteristic fashion "I know it is hard to trust Elthana when she looks like the one who caused so much harm here, but Elthana has fought these dreams for some time. They are intensifiying because of Nivara being near. We are her family now....Yes we are messy and get in our own way but we care about one another. Elthana's family will continue to help her fight these demons that are not hers. Nivara is causing this....Let's not lose sight at this....You both must remember that Nivara is the enemy. She has caused countless numbers of death between both of your sides of this war. So once we get to Lumithor's spirit, as a group we will speak to the spirit and get the lodestone. We will do what we can to aid this realm as repayment for the lodestone but not before, together, we work out the dreams and memories Elthana is having. That is all that should be said on this matter until we have concluded this business with Lumithor. We will all get the answers we seek and fix the wrongs of the past."
"Um...", Vin starts, interrupting Muir when he suggests they should now drop it.
"I just wanted to add, we need to remember that we are all made up of three parts. The body, mind and soul. Even if Elthana has Nivara's memories, she cannot have her soul. We know Nivara is still alive, and so that is where her soul is. Elthana is her own person, and those memories are merely a burden for her to bear. Let's stop making that burden harder for her, ok Serafina?", he says calmly, but with a steel towards the end.
He keeps his eyes locked to Serafina's for a couple of seconds, before getting ready to follow after Sam. Neferox merely snorts in Serafina's direction.
Griff sucks in through his beak as one does when they've had an unfortunate realisation. He ducks his head toward vin and whispers something to the boy.
Elthana doesn't trust herself to say anymore. Her anger ebbs though as Serafina tells her about Hector and at her friend's words. She smiles warmly at Muir as she walks past the big loxodon, his openness in lieu of constant questions surprises her and gives her a bit of comfort that she sorely needs. Serafina isn't wrong about one thing, she does feel like she is breaking.
She elbows Sam a bit playfully attempting to feel like herself as they start moving again. She sees the dragon as she saw him in her dreams and wonders what the dead version of the great beast is going to look like.
With somewhat of a new matching order, the group presses on. Walking further down the tunnel until they reach a pit, a pit which cuts the path ahead straight down, the way ahead crumbled and impassable. Instead at their feet they find a massive pit descending into the dark towards the center of the orb, above them they see the outside, lightning flashing and dust swirling far over head.
"Nowhere to be going but down" Griff sighs in mock disbelief as he nonchalantly steps off the edge unfurling his wings as he descends. Serafina makes a point to not descend until the rest of the party has.
It's no issue, the group finds, to once again Inver ones gravity and walk down the sides of the shear hole struck through the rock. The formation of which feels oddly familiar, though this time the strike doesn't pass through forty something floors of jagged stalagmite obstacles.
After too long descending, the group finally reach the bottom. A large crystal room seemingly naturally forming, in stark contrast to every other man carved dwelling they have seen in this plane, the dust still swirls heavy in the air but there is also a musty and mouldy damp smell which accompanies it.
To one side of the circular room an actual entrance lies, though similar to the tunnel somewhere above it is caved in and impassable, to another side a large stone archway stands dormant, nothing but wisping shadows fill it's center, opposite that is a massive construction a tower or shrine with marking of the raven queen upon it, Griff stands at the top of the monument and points over to something half jutting out of the wall. Encompassing at least a quarter of this great room are the standing bones of a gargantuan dragon, the bones are old, clean of any flesh, mushrooms grow inside the ribcage and under where the tail lies completely motionless. Oddly the back half of the dragons skeleton has begun to be absorbed by the crystal wall hinting that this space may have been bigger previously before the shattering. The fallen rubble having mended itself into a solid state once again around the dead creature.
Serafina drops to a knee and mutters a prayer before approaching. Slowly, cautiously, saying nothing.
Muir kneels with Serafina and gets up when she does. He looks at the others wondering if they would.....Sam....he worries Sam would blurt something out.....He motions to the others and puts a finger to his mouth telling them to be quiet and let Serafina take the lead
Sam mutters "Brat" and elbows Elthana back, a smirk upon his face.
As they come to the pit Sam glowers at Griff. "Now why you need be going and saying ominous shit like that?" Sam asks already feeling like this is not going to just be a discussion with some vague but friendly spirit ghost.
With each step further down the pit Sam feels more and more like something is going to jump out at them, as such he is constantly gripping and re-gripping his maul and turning it in his hands, keeping at the ready. When he finally reaches the bottom Sam pauses and signals the others to do as well. He needs a moment to take in the sight and give the boogey man a last chance to jump out and yell Boo. After that doesn't happen Sam once again starts moving forward as a slightly slowed pace. He frowns when Griff stands atop the monument, Sam thinks thats a bit too "tempting fate"-ish, and turns to look at where he points. See? Bad mojo!
"Should it be standing like that? Like undead-ish like that?" Sam asks. "I tend to prefer bones to just lie down and behave after they're dead...."
Sam then spares a glance to Elthana to see how she is holding up. "Any idea on what now?" he asks. "Should we just approach it or...?" But Sam sees Serafina, and then Muir, drop to a knee before the skeletal giant. Sam isn't one much for kneeling but he pauses and lowers his head a bit in a sign of deference...
Gewyn grabs the rim of his bucket hat and sweeps it off and across his body, taking a deep bow towards the dragon, whispering, "Your majesty Lumithor." He straightens and observes the floor around the skeleton, curious as to whether any bones have fallen off, or whether he can determine where the previous lodestone may have been taken from.
Vin and Neferox stand towards the back of the group waiting in front of Lumithor, watching to see what happens. Vin drops to a knee, but Neferox just stands resolutely refusing to show any deference.
He is a little surprised that Gewyn takes the lead after Muir motioned for silence. Not too surprised though.
Not wanting to cause anymore turmoil, Elthana just follows Serafina in her actions to the desiccated dragon. Pushing the way she saw him in her dream away.
As Sam starts checking around, he notices a pattern to the swirling of the crystal shards hanging in the air, but before he can say anything they begin to coalesce in front of the bones of lumithor.
As they swirl, the tiny crystal shards begin to form a shape, a long snout, horns, sharp teeth. The face of a great dragon floats before you and speaks out, loudly in a language only one of you understands.
Sam looks at the face and swallows. "Umm..." he says softly and looks around to the others a bit expectantly. Hopefully. "Tell me one of you speak Giant."
"Muir?"
"Gewyn?"
"Seraphina?? Anyone??"
"I'm..." Sam starts in Giant, answering the face's query. "I'm glad we caught you at home... as it were... We're uh... Heh, well I really should probably play translator instead of spokesman. With the words I'm not so good, yes?"
Sam then quickly turns away from the face and the bones and the whole thing, instead turning to the others in his party. Sam turns his whole body, not just his head, and takes a couple steps to the side to try to put himself between the group and the great and mighty face of Lumithor as if taking up the role of mediator... or translator.
"Who disturbs my vigil?" Sam says in Common. "Err, that's what the face asked. In Giant. I'm not sure how to answer so... umm... I'll translate?"
Muir puts a hand on Sam's shoulder "Thank you for translating Sam. This is very important. None of us speak Giant...So if you would tell Lumithor We thank him for protecting this realm from the Shadow Realm. My name is Muir. We also know that he was and is not the enemy. We know what happened to him and would like to help clear his name but have a few details that we are missing that we hope he will fill in, but before that, we are hoping to have one of his bones to save thousands of people from dying back home. You can explain to him how a part of our city floats and is crashing down because the original bone has lost its magic. We are willing to help clear his name and help with peace in this land but we need to save our own people first. How is that? I feel honesty is the best policy" Muir looks at the others
"Did you ask if it speaks other languages? Does it understand what we are saying?", Vin asks as he rises from his knee, staring openly at the enormous crystal draconic visage.
Elthana has a horrible thought. Can this visage actually see? She sure hopes not. She doesn't know how the encounter went with Lumithor when Nivara was here, but she can be sure it wasn't good. She tries to stand towards the back of the group and a bit hidden. Sure not to say anything in case he recognizes the voice.
Serafina notes Elthana's cautiousness and moves slightly to block this conjured faces view of Elthana, she nods to Sam, "I speak very little giant, though this cause and this request is yours to ask... I believe he also speaks draconic..." With that she asks the crystal face a question, her tones rasping and grating that of the draconic drawl. In response the crystal face gives a nod and a huff of impatience.
"Oh... hmph. Alrighty..." Sam replies to Serafina when she indicates she will not speak for the party.
Well then. This'll be fun.
"We are... err, the rest of us, not Serafina who you just spoke to... The rest of us are from Northmorrah," Sam says in lieu of an individual introduction of each. "That's a place in a different Realm. Like a reality. It's similar but different, right? Do you know of Realms?"
"Anyway we're having a problem back home. A part of the city that has been floating above the rest of the city since long before we were born... We were born, not you. I've no idea how old you are... But, errr... I am sure you look great for your age! And for... you know... the being dead and all... Yeah, well, anyways..." Sam pauses and looks to the others for help, then realizes they have no clue what he is saying and gulps audibly. "Point is, the floating part is stopping floating. It is going to crash. That crash will kill... more people than I can count high, anyway. It is going to be a big ole disaster...."
"We... We're a group who are supposed to solve things. Fix problems. Save people. Heroes, I guess. More them than me, really. I was just sort of sent along with them to hit stuff and stuff, yeah? Anyway, but yeah... Umm... Trying to stop the fall we found out that the way they had it floating in the first place was from something called a load stone. I guess it somehow bears the load of the city? Not sure why it is called a stone though cause really it's a bone. One of your bones..." Sam pauses here but then speeds up again real quick wanting to carry on before the dragon can decide to be angry about it. "We had no role in that! Not us. Ages ago. Ages and ages. Akiin, do you know him? We just met him a minute ago... A figurative minute, time is wonky here compared to back home... I just mean to say we're not best pals or anything. Barely know the guy. But it seems Akiin gave one o your bones to a guy named Sergor from back where we are from. Not a fan of Sergor myself. And I just found out he's a vampire. I don't think any of us knew that shit but shit has been being revealed as we've been going on... Didn't like him before, like him less now. Can you blame me? I swear, if he wasn't related to Elthana... He's like her father or her father in law or step brother in law or something? Sorry, I sound like an idiot, I know... But it seems Elthana is a clone of who Sergor is really related to and the original, it seems, is a real tool and a half, don't even get me started on her... But Elthana is good. We like Elthana. She's good people despite who she is related to, eh? Can't choose blood relations, can you? Even if you're a clone..."
"I feel like I am getting off topic here..." Sam adds, trying to collect his thoughts. "By the way, Vin there, the kid with the dog? He wants to know if you speak Common or anything. I think he's worried I'm not the most diplomatic of interpreters or something. Kid's not as dumb as he looks, eh? Don't say that to his dog though, they're a right pain in the butt. Almost as bad as Elthana's original... And she's the one who destroyed the mural..."
"So yeah, your stones. Load Stones. They would save our back home people and lands and such... We didn't know that it was a piece of you when we started out but now we're kind of screwed because we're down to the last few hours before it crashes. If we had time we'd be trying to find some other way to save the people, yes? But we don't have the time for that so we came to kindly, nicely, pleasantly ask if there is some way we could maybe get one of your bones or a couple two or three? No disrespect and we're absolutely willing to negotiate a proper exchange... Not that I am sure what is fair trade for a bone... Then again, you do seem to be using them less than I imagine you used to... So... can we? Is this somewhere even in the realm of possible or should we just scuttle out and tell our people they are screwed and all or..."
"Oh! Muir wanted me to thank you for protecting the Shadow Realm. So yeah, I guess you do know Realms... Muir is the one with the..." Sam isn't quite sure if trunk is the right word or not so he kind of mimes the trunk in a quite bizarre motion using his two hands and stretching them out from his nose. "Yeah, him... He wants you to know that we thank you and know you're not the bad guy. I think that may be some boy named Eilish but that's just me... Muir says you're not and never have been the enemy. That we know what all went down, minus a few details, and he really hopes you can fill in what he doesn't know... Muir is always sticking his..." mimed gesture again "... into everything, in regards to information and such... Maybe I should have said we're on your side in all of the tragedy before asking for your bones? Yeah, I should have done that..."
"But yeah, I'm Sam. You've talked to Serafina. Muir is... Well, that one. Vin is the little scamp there, Neferox is his canine (maybe?) companion. That there is Elthana. Excuse her, she's a bit shy... And hasn't been sleeping well lately. Be nice to her, eh? And then Gewyn... Either he or Muir should be the ones talking. They really need to learn more languages. I am just supposed to hit things. I'm sure you can see why...."
"So... how about a bone or two?" With than Sam turns to the others and throws them a Buddy Christ to show that everything is going great!
"I walk in front," Sam says coldly. "And there's not a person I'd want at my back more than Elthana... You just point the way and may be not poke at sore spots until this is all over, eh?"
