The shadow elf smiles as Sam immediately barrages the woman with questions. Typical Sam, she thinks, but is happy that someone is taking the lead in this, interviewing anyone was not something she was used to. And this was someone that might even live with them, they had to be careful.
Elthana sits back and observes the woman as she speaks, answering first Sam, then Vin. She was surprised at Vin, not many questions for the woman, but then again, she didn't have many herself, but was glad to see that the woman seemed open to them.
"I understand your feelings towards social skills and getting lost in your craft. Why did you want to escape the Jasmina life though? I'm not sure this location will be any better for meeting new people. How are you at healing? And would you need anything from us or from the property in order for it to meet your needs? Did Erroil show you the space in question?"
"the Jasmina life was never really my life, I'm not sure it is anyone's life really" she gives a slight glance toward Gewyn, but becomes embarrassed and looks away, "I wasn't born into it and no offence to anyone who indulges in the luxurious side of life but it comes with such pretence and pomposity, I think that's why I lost friends, there were apparently greater things to pursue than knowledge and honing ones craft... But none of the distractions really held my interest, now don't get me wrong the access to the education, the books, the old research papers and journals, that was fantastic. But I think you're wrong, here on the outskirts of the tangles there are people with actual need, with passion that goes beyond the accessory or the need to be put on a pedestal. There is less pretence to the social side of life here, I'm hoping that extends to you too, folk from all walks of life. Sorry I'm rambling about myself, what was the other question?... Oh yes! The things I need, I was told accomodation would be provided along with the shop room, I have seen size specifications for both but I would love to see the actual unit. Aside from that I would like a little space in the garden for growing herbs and certain potion ingredients, especially come summer."
"We do have a bit of a lot outside near the stables, I am sure between you and Muir something could be done with it," Sam says. "He's already on a gardening spree so one more surely won't bother him much, eh?"
"But do lets take a look at the spots that would be yours," Sam offers. He will take her first to the shop area and then upstairs to the bedroom. Sam doesn't say much about the shop at all as he knows very little about what she may or may not need there so he mostly allows it to speak for itself. He will mention that the intention was likely for her to have the small room downstairs but that he is taking that one himself. "I'd rather be on the first floor... Just in case. Besides, I'm not the lightest on my feet and who wants to hear me walking around upstairs all night, eh?"
When he shows her the room he brings up that there is some talk of converting it into two rooms. "I'm not sure how much space you be needing but we like the idea of finding a live in servant for the house. Someone to do the cooking and the cleaning and such. They'd work for you too, of course. Thinking is that none of our group is really the sort to do that type of thing ourselves except by necessity when out in the field, as it were... And no telling if we'll all keep the same hours or not. Having someone here close to full time would likely work well for everyone, I'd think..." So all in all, Sam is feeling her out about if she needs the full room or not.
Seeing the spaces Marzana seems impressed, "oh lots of room, I'd probably have half of this as a workspace an a smaller customer area, I'll need a cauldron for potions, a station for scroll writing, a bookshelf, oh this will be fantastic. This gets me wondering what kind of things would you guys want from me, I know you adventuring types will find healing potions useful, and I can do that, but is there any areas of magic that you have particular interests in, some things that I could have researched and maybe always have some stock on, my areas of expertise are predominantly potions and scrolls though I can do many other things."
As they make their way up the stairs and view the room Marzana can't help but look around, checking out the corridor upstairs and commenting on the quality of the recent repairs and renovation of the house, "yes this room is quite large, if it needed to be shared or turned into two rooms I wouldn't mind at all. I don't take up too much space with my non work related belongings. I assume my bedroom door would be lockable, and I'd have the keys to the shop front and all of that kind of stuff right?"
"Yes, keys. I'm sure we're all of a mind regarding security. Storefront would be a key that only you had, or you and who you chose. My thought is from the store to the house at least one or two of us should have a key to that one, just in case. I'd say choose who you trusted. And if we hire a servant, if you wanted them cleaning up in the store, they would need access I guess..."
"Regarding magic," Sam continues, "Healing potions would assuredly be a boon to us. We met a Wizard in Trundlesten who made rations that were like tiny sugar cubes but once you added water... Full meals! Handy, though I think we still have some of those. He also had a growth potion which I almost bought decided to save my money so... But really, I'm not the one who knows magic or what it can do or such. I'd suggest you talk to... Well, any of the others over me on that topic."
"huh, full meals, that sounds... interesting. Growth I could do, that does take some interesting ingredients though, I'll have to hit up a dwarven contact I have, healing is not a problem but I can also do things along the lines of, spider climbing, levitating, invisibility, and more, and if there's anything you want and I can't do it then I'll surely have fun researching it's possibility.
I think that's a good idea with the keys, if you choose me then we'll all be living under the same roof and need to watch each others backs!"
Just as the group finish showing Marzana the upstairs room and make your way back to the living room, there is a heavy knock on the shopfront door. Which echoes through the empty shop, through the walls and shakes a little dust from the ceiling overhead.
Elthana finds it funny that Sam is talking to the woman like we had already chosen her. True, she seemed like a pretty good applicant and would be decent to have around. Elthana doesn't have any issues with the woman, on the contrary, she finds her a bit relaxing in her seemingly steadfast ways.
But she was also curious about an enchanter.. healing is good, but what could an enchanter do for them?
Just as those thoughts enter her mind, there comes a very loud knock at the door. Elthana gets up and answers it.
Opening the door it still seems oddly dark outside until Elthana realises that the massive form of a Goliath in a black cloak has eclipsed any light coming in through the door, a meaty hand is hesitantly thrust forward as the Goliath leans down, trails of white glowing magic seem to illuminate the movements of his eyes as his head moves forward and looks inside, "Hey there, I'm Hog. Enchanter. Was told you wanted to see me?"
Back in the kitchen/living room Marzana finishes off the last of the coffee in her mug that Sam had made, "so is there anything else you'd like me to explain or expound upon?"
"Huh? Wha...? Umm, no. No," Sam answers, distracted by the heavy knocking and the earthquake like effects it has on their poor new home sweet home. "That's all I have unless you have more questions or anything?" Even as Sam is saying this he is standing and moving towards the noise, curiosity getting the better of him than manners.
Elthana backs up as the figure of Hog blocks the light past the doorway. "Yes, c'mon in, find a seat and let us know why you are interested in setting up shop here."
She looks at the goliath as he enters, wondering if he'll even fit in the house.
Hog ducks his head as he enters and looks around the shop appreciatively, he can indeed stand up straight though the ceiling is only a hair's breadth above him. "I need my own place to sell from, you got one, so I thought I'd give it a shot and send in the application, I take it you guys wanting to ask things is a good turn of events, yeah?" His voice rumbles low vibrating from the pit of his wide chest, and his mannerisms are very direct and to the point.
In the kitchen Marzana stands, and looks to Vin and Gewyn the last remaining party members to be with her, "so I suppose if that's going to be all I will eagerly await your decision" she gives a smile and offers a handshake to them both, "on the chance that you don't pick me it was lovely meeting you all, and should I have to set up somewhere else I shall make sure you know where I am." As she bids them farewell, she exits through the side door that she entered through and completely misses dying goodbye to the others.
Stepping into view of the new 'guest' Sam is immediately not a fan. This piece of work was shaking the roof down just by knocking on the front door, if he ended up living here they'd have to reinforce... Well, everything!
"And what exactly is it you want to be selling?" Sam asks suspiciously. This Hog most certainly did not fit his mental image of an enchanter. "And where you been working out of til now?"
Hog frowns, "I imbue items with magical properties, and I don't think I need to explain magic items, you must be Sam.
On top of that I'm licensed to buy, trade, and appraise magic items. Which means if you employ me you won't have to have your stuff checked by Escan.
Before this I was training out of the cavalcade school, after I finished my training I was chosen to apprentice under Escan personally. It was gruelling, and I have no love for the man. Though I did perfect my craft." Hog stands somewhat uncomfortably, unsure whether the entire interview is going to take place standing in the middle of an empty shop.
Before Mazara leaves Vin asks "I appreciate you coming and answering our questions. It sounds like you can do a lot that could be helpful. Last one from me, are you skilled with making antidotes and medicines beyond the standard healing potion?"
------
When Hog shows up the giant size of him dwarves poor Vin so thst he has to look up sharply. "Wow hi. Nice to meet you Hog. I heard Escan can be very strict. I recently graduated myself. Professor Wooswin took lead in most of my studies. What led you into enchanting and a desire to open a shop? Most folks I met in the academy had goals of adventuring."
When asked for tea Vin says "yes please. Thanks muir."
Marzana gives vin a little bit of an embarrassed look as he asks, "I've dabbled in that side of natural non magical herbalism, but it's not really an expertise of mine, I'd be willing to give it a go. Though I wouldn't be able to hold myself to the standards I have for, say, potion making, it would be a trial and error kind of thing, at least to start with!" She politely takes her leave.
In the shop hog looks down to vin and gives a smile, "nice to meet another graduate, yeah, uhhh, well the whole adventuring thing kinda pissed me off if I'm honest. I like the making side of stuff not the finding and killing over stuff y'know, I'm a craftsman not a traveller, I don't like to be too far away from my workbench. So it was either shop or teach, but even with teaching you ain't really doing what you want right? And I got like a knack for what I do, trying to explain arcane application to items to kids is lost on me, obviously I understand it but trying to explain it to someone who doesn't, pfffff" Hog gives a big sigh imagining a class full of snot nosed kids in front of him and shudders a little, "anyway yeah, Escan's not just strict, he's a dick when he wants to be, you got it easy with Wooswin, that old man wouldn't say boo to a goose y'know. But they're both good at what they do, yeah? I respect them both even if they'd give me reason not to like them."
Muir finds the teapot without much difficulty at all, it appears that Erriol Oakhand had seen to the kitchen being well stocked with basic cooking utensils and a basic preserved food stock.
“Yeah I’m Sam. That one’s Muir, they’re Vin…” Sam answers and introduces all who are there.
“May as look around the shop since we’re here. See if it suits, if you have any questions, so on.” Sam isn’t impolite but he’s not making an effort to be polite either. Mostly Sam is already imagining this half-giants footsteps back and forth over the floorboards as it shakes the house each time it has to use the water closet…
“You make your own items mostly or more enchanting already made items?” Sam asks as Hog looks around the shop.
Muir sets about making tea for anyone that wants it. He adds a little lavender to the tea for a relaxing effect. He sets out the cups of lavender tea for those that want to take. "It is all done. I added a little lavender. It has a relaxing effect. I don't see any cows out back to milk or hives for honey....What a poorly thought out building...."He says to no one in particular
