"Curious, there doesn't seem to be a way forward. Maybe the goblin's have something on them that would provide a clue." Cinder says and he walks around to search each goblin corpse.
(Cinder searches the Goblin corpses and finds a bunch of coppers totaling up to about 1 GP. Each of the Goblins also has the standard Goblin array of ratty leather armor, rusty shortsword and dagger, plus a poor quality shortbow with arrows.)
(Thistle walks around looking at the corpses, too. He looks over at Zlee, who is looking very, very poorly, like he could pass out at any minute.)
"Guys, I know we're anxious to find the child, but perhaps we should tend to your wounds and take a short rest."
DMs note: Here's a recap of how everyone is doing. I actually messed up and had to make a minor adjustment, but it's on me, so I won't go back and change the narrative. If you're all ok with taking a short rest, I'll go ahead and say everyone goes back to full health and Manikin recovers 1 Spell Slot.

After taking a short break, Cinder resumes his canvas of the area by searching the eastern wall for any regularities that might indicate a hidden switch or passage.
Perception/Investigation: 21
OOC: Wasn't sure which to use, but they're both the same modifier.
(Having rested and tended to their wounds, the party opens the door and prepares themselves. Zlee leads the way, followed by Cinder, Thistle and Manikin in the rear. Before you is a very large room that seems to have been carved out of a cave. The walls are natural rocks, dark gray, with 20 foot ceilings. About 20 feet in there is a huge chasm, over which a narrow stone bridge connects this edge to another edge about 100 feet away. The bridge is about 5 feet wide and looks pretty sturdy, so you all could probably all cross it at once if you all went in a line. )
Spoiler for Zlee:
You're pretty mesmerized by the depth of the chasm, so you're not paying much attention to anything else.
Spoiler for Manikin:
The bridge seems sturdy, so you're not worried about crossing it. The stonework seems pretty good. Nobody else appears to be waiting for you all on the other side.
Spoiler for Cinder and Thistle:
The bridge seems sturdy, so you're not worried about crossing it. The stonework seems pretty good. Nobody else appears to be waiting for you all on the other side.
As you inspect the bridge, you notice that about halfway across, there is a part of the bridge that looks just a little bit difference than the rest. It's kind of far away, but you can tell it's a very slightly raised plate, about 10 feet across, long enough so you couldn't really jump over it unless you were very, very athletic. As you look around a little more, you see up on the ceiling a long, thin slit.
"Hold a moment!" Cinder says urgently, "There's something odd on the bridge, there about halfway across. See how it's a bit higher? I'd say it was a pressure plate trap that causes something to fall from.....there!" He points to a long thin slit in the ceiling. "The plate seems to cover a 10 foot section of the bridge. I could jump over easily, how about you all?"
Basically, you need a strength score of 11 or higher to make the jump. You can long jump up to a number a feet equal to your strength score as long as you get a "running start" of 10 ft. of movement. Below are the rules straight from the PHB:
Long Jump. When you make a long jump, you cover a number of feet up to your Strength score if you move at least 10 feet on foot immediately before the jump. When you make a standing long jump, you can leap only half that distance. Either way, each foot you clear on the jump costs a foot of movement.
This rule assumes that the height of your jump doesn't matter, such as a jump across a stream or chasm. At your DM's option, you must succeed on a DC 10 Strength (Athletics) check to clear a low obstacle (no taller than a quarter of the jump's distance), such as a hedge or low wall. Otherwise, you hit it.
When you land in difficult terrain, you must succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check to land on your feet. Otherwise, you land prone.
(Zlee takes a running start and jumps over the pressure plate, landing safely on the other side. Cinder looks like he's about to do the same, but Thistle motions for him to stop.)
"Wait... give me a minute."
(Thistle walks around the cliff area where the door was, picks up a few that are the size he needs, and walks over to the area where the pressure plate is. He gets down even with the bridge, and jams the rocks under the plate so that it won't go down. He takes a deep breath and tentatively steps onto the plate. Nothing happens. Thistle smiles and walks towards the other end of the bridge. The rest of the party follows.
As you reach the other side of the bridge, you see a slightly open door. You all peer thru it, carefully.)
Spoiler for Manikin and Zlee:
As you peer inside, you see a large Bugbear, a kind of super Goblin, who may be the leader. He looks pretty tough, with thick furs and armor, and a giant Warhammer over his shoulder. Next to him, a regular Goblin in robes stands before a makeshift altar, chanting words that appear to be part of a ritual.
Spoilers for Thistle and Cinder:
As you peer inside, you see a large Bugbear, a kind of super Goblin, who may be the leader. He looks pretty tough, with thick furs and armor, and a giant Warhammer over his shoulder. Next to him, a regular Goblin in robes stands before a makeshift altar, chanting words that appear to be part of a ritual. You adjust your angle and see that the makeshift altar is in front of a large statue that looks like the leader of the Delian Order, Sextus Varius. You adjust your angle again, and see that there are 3 Goblins standing about on the right side of the room, talking among themselves, not really paying much attention. As you make one final adjustment, you see that on the far left corner of the room, a small girl is squatting in a small cage, her dirty, tear-stained face covered in dirt and mucus. She sobs softly, as if she has been crying for hours and hours and is just about cried out.
"Don't stop", bellows out the Bugbear at the Shaman Goblin (in common), "we're so close. Soon, this place will become a proper temple for the Goblin God, and we will consecrate it... with the blood of the innocent! Nothing will stop us!"
The Bugbear lets out an evil laugh as the Shaman Goblin continues to chant and perform the ritual.
What do you all do?
DMs notes: Ok, looks like we're down to 2. I think you all can finish it if I kind of help you both speed thru it, if you're still up for it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cinder whispers to the others, "My father always taught me that magic users are the most dangerous and hardest to plan for. Zlee, if you engage the bugbear and hold his attention, I'll will kill shaman as quickly as possible, then go after 3 normal goblins. Thistle, you can back me up at range against the caster and then the normal goblins. Manikin, you know best how to employ your magics, if you think it be better to catch the normal goblins with an area spell while they are grouped, please do so. If you can debuff the bugbear somehow to give Zlee some breathing room, go ahead. This decision should be your's. Ready?" When the others affirm there preparedness, Cinder continues, "Perhaps you should start us off with a shot from stealth on the caster, Thistle, then I can close with in melee." When everyone his ready and Thistle fires his shot, Cinder charges the goblin shaman in a rage.
OOC: If I can Rage before initiating combat, I do so, if not, I'll do it as a bonus action and ignore the bonus action handaxe swing below.
Action (Attack on Shaman): Attack: 14 Damage: 6
Bonus action (Attack on Shaman): Attack: 14 Damage: 3
Let's finish it!
Not sure of distances, but assuming we can get there with normal speed, Cinder does so. If not, I suggest we sneak until we're close enough, then charge. Here's a stealth roll if sneaking is needed first:
(Cinder stealthily opens the door. The Shaman is chanting and performing his ritual. Thistle has his bow ready, and takes a shot at the Shaman.)
Attack: 22 Damage: 5
(The arrow zips thru the air and hits the Shaman right in the shoulder! Cinder, meanwhile, goes into a Rage and rushes the Shaman, and smashes his head in with his Axe before anyone realizes what's happening! A huge spurt of blood covers the wall as the Shaman stops chanting and falls dead.)
"NOOOOO! MY RITUAL!"
(Zlee goes after the Bugbear boss, who is raging as he sees his plans going up in smoke. Zlee's Longsword finds its mark, and he leaves a large gash across the chest of the Bugbear.)
(Meanwhile, Manikin launches a Firebolt at one of the Goblins on the side.)
Attack: 21 Damage: 9
(The Goblin is burned up and screams as he dies. From back the way you all came, you hear some yelling. You look back and you see a pair of Goblins from a patrol you all must have missed running towards the bridge you all just crossed. They'll be here shortly.)
(The Bugbear roars as he smashes his giant Warhammer at Zlee.)
Attack: 15 Damage: 13
(A loud clang is heard as Zlee raises his shield up, blocking the heavy blow from the Warhammer! It's a good thing, because that shot looked like it would have done tremendous damage if it had hit.)
(Meanwhile, the two goblins in the room take out their Scimitars and attack Manikin and Thistle.)
Goblin 1 attacking Manikin: Attack: 16 Damage: 6
Goblin 2 attacking Thistle: Attack: 15 Damage: 3
(The little Goblins are fast and furious, managing to slash both Manikin and Thistle in the torso, injuring them both! Manakin seems a lot more hurt than Thistle, though.)
You’re all still in a room with 3 walls, the only visible exit being the way you came in.
