"I think making our way to Passbeen and avoiding the capital with such an artifact would be the best idea. We can then head north to TallTana. I know it will extend our trip, but there may be less people expecting us on that road."

Good call, Kilseth. I think heading for Passbeen by the main road is a good idea. Were you thinking of skirting the Pine Marshes and cutting off the main road? I think it'd be a good way to throw potential pursuers off our path a bit, and if we have too much trouble we can make a stop at Way Avel for resupply and a bit of rest before making another beeline straight towards TallTana.

The troop sets out along the only road leading towards TallTana in the evening. They plan to keep to themselves and stay way from the Capital. This will require a few detours and careful planning. They see several traveling groups as the move along but nothing to indicate that trouble is in the works. They travel well into the night before stopping for a rest. They are very tired at this point after travelling to get to Gilstream then hurrying away without a stop in the Inn or anything.
How do you want to rest. You are all very tired. For the most part you have been following a valley with sparse vegetation but occasional tree areas and a few meadows. You are almost to the cutoff for Passbeen but it is still a few hours away.
The party stops off the highway in a field and sleeps for the night. They wake up the next morning and are preparing their things to continue the journey.
I need everyone to place themselves on this open field map according to where you were the night before as you prepare to leave in the morning. You can send me your position in OOC or in a spoiler here.
As you move around preparing to leave you are attacked as if from nowhere by three dogs!
BD1 at Tenzen: Attack: 14 Damage: 6 BD2 at Tenzen: Attack: 20 Damage: 4 BD3 at Merry: Attack: 15 Damage: 6
GN Longbow at Simon: Attack: 21 Damage: 7
Tenzen is the unlucky party member getting two dogs on him at once. Luckly one misses badly but the other cuts into his leg with a quick bite. Merry takes a bite from a third dog in his side. An arrow whistles out of nowhere and sticks into Simon. Although the attack is very much a surprise, what is even more of a surprise is that the attacks are causing real pain! Tenzen, Merry and Simon scream as they struggle to understand what is supposed to happen next. This was supposed to be entertainment. The reality part was only supposed to be in the fun of it and not in the pain.
I need everyone to roll initiative. Also this was not supposed to be a complete surprise attack but when I had the bad guys roll stealth they killed it. So the game is on! I placed everyone mostly randomly. I tried to place you a little as if you were heading North according to your thoughts above but mostly randomly.

I think that is a good plan. although i fear any route will be bad, I imagine a trip to the capital would lead to trouble we don’t need.
