Zachariah saddles up to Greggor, smiling self-consciously, as the group is led to the Red Bazaar by Elvoril. "Sir, I have lived months on my own, away from my monastery, once or twice struggling to find food and shelter, but always in cities. God has taken good care of me. I am blessed beyond measure to be here with so much gold in my pocket and surrounded by so many souls I might win for the Lord." He looks at the ground for a breath and then back at the human. "This task of planning for our journey — knowing what to buy ... I'm not the best at planning. I would be forever grateful if you would help me purchase what I will need. I will be most happy to compensate you for your trouble. I'm a good student and will remember what you teach me, but ... my tutors were always frustrated with my ability to anticipate the unknown."
OOC: Rebaskrad, Zachariah decided to approach Greggor because he's tall (Zachariah's just two inches taller than Greggor) and a human, the race he's most comfortable around. And you got his attention with your little trouble with your supper after you arrived. I know you said Greggor isn't good with money, but Zachariah doesn't know that and probably wouldn't notice if Greggor is willing to help. Greggor does notice Zachariah has his armor, shield, and hammer (all he'd need for battle), and a pack with the typical adventuring gear (bedroll, some rations, rope, waterskin, etc.). He just needs the extra stuff for the task in the jungle.
Greggor stops and turns to Zachariah. He opens his mouth as if to speak, then hesitates for a moment. Greggor allows the rest of the party to move on down the road, then lowers his voice, to prevent the others from hearing.
"Zachariah, let Greggor tell story. I once know a man...(he goes on to tell a story of a man with good intention giving bad advice that turned a friend into an enemy) ...for dis reason I cannot tell you how to spend what is yours, only what is mine. Greggor es not great thinker. I am simple man, I come from farm. No problem finding work because Greggor es strong. Good arm to sving sordt und axe. Dis land es strange to me. Baht... (Greggor reaches for Zachariah's arm and directly meets his gaze) if you vish to follow Greggor and tink you can learn, so be it."
Greggor turns back towards the rest of the party and starts making his way through the bazzar. "Only de Godts know vhat ve vill face!" Greggor looks up to the sky and says a silent prayer to no god in particular, "If we are to die, let it be a death worthy of song."
As Greggor sees Vart approach requesting to also join he shoots Zachariah a smile, slaps Vart on the should and says. "Of course! Let us go and prepare as best ve can!"
Greggor proceeds to purchase the following items out of his own pocket:
1 quiver large enough to hold Javilins
5 javilin
3 additional water skins
10 additional days of rations
2 whetstones
1 set of fishing tackle
1 mess kit
3 sticks of chalk
5 bars of soap
4 large sacks
1 shovel
1 additional change of clothes
3 bundles of insect repellent (salve)
1 rain catcher
Book value: 8gp, 62sp, 21cp
Greggor will subtract 10 gp assuming he did poor math or was taken advantage of in a couple of shops
Healing potions he will expect to come out of the party fund. Greggor would like one of these items, but will leave it to party decision. He then heads to Kaya's House to find a comfortable bed, a good meal, and perhaps a game of 3 dragon ante or some "friendly companionship" if any can be found. ("What good is risking your life if you don't live a little?")
Zachariah would know if anyone was trying to swindle him, so this should be right unless any of the above items are more expensive in Port Nyanzaru (like the healing potions are).
OOC - Vart is now sitting on his maximum limit for encumbrance. One more item will see him Heavily Encumbered - something he would prefer not to occur.
"Thank-you but I should be fine. We should think about a ???(he says some words in another language) ah yes a pack animal. See over there people are using some type of giant lizard to cart their goods"
Tap bought supplies, new clothes for traveling and performing, then headed to the Thundering Lizard which sounded like more his audience. After changing into his new performance attire, which included one of the multi-colored feathered capes he saw earlier, Tap approached the bartender:
"Hello sir, I was wondering if you'd like some--[sound of viol playing]--for you and your guests this evening in exchange for free room and board?" He said to the bartender, copying Ahkmenos tactic, and voice, from the previous day (he hoped for a better end result). When the bartender agreed, Tap grabbed his viol and took the small stage.
Performance: 24
This won't happen until I post when you go into the Thundering Lizard and one of the other party members was going to the other Inn. That will be later on after you guys talk about what you are buying, add on your costs, subtract it etc... You can always go back and buy more supplies after you hire/talk to a guide.
Tap reviews the items he's purchased:
Rain Catcher
Insect Salve x2 2gp
Waterskin
Tent
Sack
Pouch
Mess kit
Hooded lantern
Oil flask x3
Costume
Travelers Clothes
Crossbow bolts case
Candle x5
Caltrops x3 (Each set is 20 Caltrops)
Map/Scroll Case
Rations 10 days
For a total of 28GP, 2SP, and 6CP (OOC: already deducted from my sheet) OOC: DM, I'll stand by until your next round of posts that will clear things up. If we're ignoring my Thunder Lizard post, Tap will be following around Krav, who's his favorite party member to mimic so far and also a fellow short person.
You spend the better part of two hours combing through all the stores in the Red Bazaar and gathering up most of the supplies that you think you'll need for your journey into the jungle. There are a few more stores that you need to hit before you go out. You know that Wakanga's store sells the potions and magical scrolls, Ekene-Afa's store deals in weapons, shields, traveling gear, rain catchers, saddles, wagons, and canoes, also magical weapons and wooden shields. Ifan Talro’a's store sells the beasts of burden if you wish to purchase one. You did not notice any stores that would sell the more wonderous of magic items though. You did notice a gem merchant that would exchange your gold for gems and vice versa. As you're finishing up your shopping spree, most of the stores are beginning to close for the night.
The sun is setting over the massive stone walls that are defending Port Nyanzaru. You notice that the city’s defensive walls and towers are topped with colorful awnings to shield guards from the sun and rain. There are four guards in each tower keeping a watchful eye out into the jungle. Most of the buildings in Port Nyanzaru are covered with thick vines, flowers and green plants seem to cover everywhere and it must take constant tending to prevent roots and shoots from damaging buildings and roof tiles.
Your first stop is Kaya’s House of Repose to drop off Greggor and Kaslo for the night. Kaya's House of Repose is located at the edge of the Red Bazaar and is a rather large building compared to the other buildings around it.
I'll wait to finish this post to see who does what. Maybe some extra people will go into kayas, You guys need to set up a meeting time for the next day etc. I will be sending out the Thundering Lizard post later on though. In a few hours unless most people respond to this earlier.
OOC - could you confirm if Vart is immune through his scales to insect bites.
You won't know until it happens. But I would say no. It doesn't say it on your race traits and this isn't real life where the thick hide would actually protect you.
DM: While shopping, Zachariah asked a few of the merchants if there is a location in the city where the destitute tend to gather and live. 1) Do they tell him about the slums? 2) Would they tell him how to get there? 3) If they tell him where it is, he will go there for the night, even if they discourage it. He can part company with the group, telling them he will meet them at the Thundering Lizard at sunup. 4) If he goes, he will spend the night on the street, ministering to those he can (with encouragement and any physical labor he might can provide), telling them about Yahweh and discreetly giving out gold (1 gp per person he ministers to). He's done this a lot, so he isn't stupid about it. He knows to watch his back, to protect his property, and to not antagonize or create a situation. He currently has 55 gp, so you can let me know how much he gives away. 5) If no one tells him about the slums or how to get there, he will stay at the Thundering Lizard.
Somebody needs to make the decision for what we're going to buy with party loot and tell Borak. I'd really hate to get out in the jungle and assume we've picking things up and him say, "Nobody ever actually said you bought it, so you don't have that stuff."
and a warhammer. (15 gp - we'll say 3 for mace= 12gp)
I'll round to 21 gp for the lot (19 gp, 6 sp, 3 cp + insect salves) to include insect salves, and mark up/rip off.
He would like to exchange his mace with the smith to bring down the cost of his warhammer.
Thor explores the Red Bazaar, sweating the whole time. His northern blood is not used to the heat, despite having traveled most of the Sword Coast. Taking in the sites of giant dinosaurs in awe. Never having seen one before but hearing stories of them from few fellow mercenaries who spent a little time in Chult to help protect a trade deal. "I can't believe these things exist, I've heard stories but never thought they were this large." Thor roams around the bazaar to gather the supplies he is looking for. And finds Tap following Krav. "How have you been fairing around the city?"
