“A red glow? I hope it is not another dragon.” Thatch moves down the hallway cautiously behind Cainneach, looking for the source of the light or for any threats.
"No worries on that front, Thatch, just lamps. Although there is something peculiar about them for sure. I'll keep scouting ahead while one among us more apt with those things can figure that out. From the looks of it, we have a long way to go."Cainneach will continue to investigate the floor and walls, moving slowly eastward in the crimson glow of the lamps.
Dru follows Cainnaech closely. She also attempts to figure out what is strange about the light.

Dru works out what is wrong, the light from the lanterns doesn't extend beyond them, its as if they aren't actually there, and is about to inform Cainneach and Thatch when Cainneach suddenly finds his front foot going straight through the floor in front of him. The lanterns and corridor vanish into darkness a deep pit and a dead end the only things visible now in your held lights.
( Make a Dex Save to grab the edge of the pit. Thatch/Tana/Dru can make Dex Checks to grab Cainneach before he disappears into a now yawning pit.)
“A red glow? I hope it is not another dragon.” Thatch moves down the hallway cautiously behind Cainneach, looking for the source of the light or for any threats.
Cainneach manages to balance effortlessly on the lip of the pit and pivot around 180 stepping into the steadying hands of his companions without issue.
Cainneach takes a deep breath and thanks his companions for the assistance. "I think that perhaps we need to investigate this a bit more thoroughly," he says sheepishly. Cainneach then pulls the roughly 25' of rope he has remaining from his backpack and ties a heavy knot in one end. He lights a torch and hands it to Bretwald. Next he will tie one end of the rope around his waist. Finally, he will toss the knotted end as far as he can and watch carefully for its landing. (Curious if the pit is wider than the ~20' of rope he'll throw. Figure it will fly better with the knot providing some weight and shaped close to a ball. Torch is for better visibility.)
The knot slams into a concealed wall about 10' out and drops down into the pit. Following its fall and listening for the thud it seems the pit is about 15' deep with a stone floor.

Thatch reaches out and grabs for Cainneach as he balances on the edge of the pit, and watches closely as he tosses the rope out in the blackness. “A dead end? Should we go back toward the other room? Or do you think something is on the other side of this pit?” Thatch holds up his lantern, trying to see across the distance to where the rope hit something, as well as looking down into the pit to see where the rope fell. Perception: 10.

There is definitely nothing beyond the pit but a dead end...looking down he thinks he sees something on the stone floor of the pit.
“There is something down there, but I am not sure what”Thatch calls out to the others as he considers his options. The pit was the trap, surely there was nothing else down there, right? He thinks to himself before turning to Cainneach “Hold the rope, I will slide down and check it out. Be ready to pull me out if needed.”Thatch slides down the rope to the bottom of the chamber and scans the area while still holding onto the rope, ready to climb back up at the first sign of danger.

"Aye Thatch, I'll be ready!"Cainneach takes the rope and prepares himself to rescue his diminutive friend if necessary.
Thatch eyes the ring for any danger before picking it up and turning it over in his hands, examining it and making note of the decorative markings before sticking it in his pocket. “I’m coming up” he shouts up to Cainneach and scrambles up the rope.
Up top, he pulls the ring out and shares it with the others. “More bears, fitting for one called the Bear King. Is it a key to another test do you think?”

“Do you know this ring, Father? What is the ring of Vallandar, and why would it be in a pit at a dead end hallway?”Thatch looks up at the ring and asks Father Bretwald, once again wondering what he is not telling the group. Insight: 19.
Hotspur searches his memory for any lore of Vallandar's ring.
History 16 (game log)
Hotspur knows that kings, and lords for that matter, often have rings that denote their right to rule....sometimes constructed as a seal.
Vallandars would likely be a fairly primitive construction of that....but perhaps similar? He thinks he recalls it was given to Vallandar by Mathor the Sorcerer along with his crown and rod....

" I do not know. Only that it was part of the Once and Future Kings regalia.....I don't know why it would be here unless there is someone or something still active in this place..."
Hotspur muses, "The whole purpose of this tomb seems to be a sort of test. As if, the great King will only return when his descendants have proved clever enough, or desperate enough, to overcome the obstacles and puzzles herein. I suppose that to summon him, we would need to gather the items that symbolized his authority, like the ring. One might expect similar items such as a crown or scepter, or a unique weapon of some kind to also be part of the quest. Of course, that's how it would go in one of the epic songs. Not sure I believe all that about some long dead monarch being able to reappear. But we've definitely seen some things down here that I cannot explain. Especially as I am dreadfully sober."
Drusays, "Well then, let's finish this so we can get you good and drunk again, shall we?" and walks back into the other room to examine the double doors.

Investigation: 5 (game log)
The double doors are unlocked and very slightly ajar, peeking through beyond the double doors lies a 3m-wide corridor which leads west. A little over 15m away from where you are standing, it is joined by another corridor leading north. The east-west corridor is very dark. But you can see bright light flooding from the northern branch.
