He will investigate a house, being on guard for whatever would do this. 10
All that Gordon finds is more bodies, and more broken furniture and houses. However, on the easternmost house he enters, he sees that there are a few gnomes who have died holding odd implements--a broom, an iron skillet and a hammer.
"Kind of a gruesome sight," remarked Whistler quietly as he exited the house. "I wonder if those footprints Redoff found might lead to someone still here? Y'all think we should call the others up before looking, though? We might could use some backup."
"Definitely "
(( Does anyone call down for Darbakh, or do you all head east? (Or does Darbakh follow after Gordon?) I'll move things along if there's no other action taken soon. ))
Darbakh is still watching in a suspicious and shifty manner at ground level, thinking himself very useful (probably not true). His familiar hasn’t sensed danger yet, and he makes no move to climb up, too engrossed in his watching.

(( Darbakh can go ahead and make two more Perception checks, for both him and his familiar.
DC 10 to hear a general commotion up in the trees, DC 12 to see light and smoke from the eastern part of the village, DC 15 to spot the party and see how they choose to act, (so that if they flee you don't have to waste a post to climb up just to climb back down.)
If either Darbakh or his familiar gets at least a 10, he'll have about a round to act before things kick off and can post accordingly. ))
As they party heads toward the eastern part of the wrecked village, they all hear garbled gibberish and what sounds like occasional soft cackling ahead. However, no one seems to be able to understand what's being said.
Within moments, they reach the far edge of the structures, and quickly spot a rough-looking dwarf pacing back and forth in front of another wrecked tree house. He's covered in blood, with a mad frenzy in his eyes, a bloody axe in one hand, a torch in the other. There seems to be a mark of some sort on the exposed flesh of his left arm. (( A DC 12 Perception check will tell what it is at this distance. ))
The dwarf suddenly turns to face the party as you creep closer (( you're about 50' away at this point. )) He smiles wildly, then cackles as he throws the torch into the nearest house, causing the building and the tree it's built onto to burst into flames. The fire quickly begins to spread, while the arsonist grips his battleaxe in both hands and gleefully stares the party down.
(( The flames quickly occupy a position between the party and the dwarf, about 30 feet away from you, and 10 feet from him. The flames act on an initiative of 20. Each turn, it spreads to all flammable material within 5 feet of it, meaning it'll take six rounds to reach you. A creature who enters the flames for the first time or ends their turn there takes 1d6 fire damage, and you must cross the flames (currently 5 feet worth) to get to the dwarf.
The flames in any given square can be put out using an action and suitable material, but it's clear that without powerful magic the village itself is lost.
The party can:
(1) fight the dwarf (as the flames begin to encroach his position,) or (2) flee using the nearest ladders, or (3) come up with some clever third choice.
The crazed dwarf isn't advancing, so you have roughly one round to decide what to do; the flames will be spreading as you discuss. Anyone choosing to fight can make an Initiative check; anyone fleeing can make a Dexterity check (presuming you're not teleporting to the ground or some such.) ))

The mark seems to be a bite or other nasty wound on the dwarf's upper arm. Purple bruising and a strange greenish festering seems to be spreading from it; dark green tendrils snake from the wound up the arm and under the hide armor at his shoulder. (( Anyone who sees it now can make a free Medicine Check to see if they can determine what it is. ))

Unaware of what’s happening above, Darbakh can only react to the whiff of smoke and burning wood which his familiar expresses to him. He raises a hand to his mouth to shout more loudly from the ground while moving beneath the ladder.
”Fire! Gents, that village is burning up there! You gotta come down!”

Darbakh pauses for a moment upon hearing Evan’s reply. “That’s honestly the most logical explanation for this,” he mumbles before shouting up again. “The fire is spreading fast, lad, what’re you doing up there?”

Darbakh pulled a Leeroy Jenkins with that 1, but his familiar did a bit better with the 14. How much light and smoke does he notice?
