"This needs to be a secret, but I want you to know that I found this in Dawnlord Menges' room, all crumpled up in the fireplace," he says, pulling out the scrap of paper on turning into a Yuan-ti.
As you are preparing to leave, one of the solar guard enters the common room of the rectory. Sister Naphtali is giving Friar Bernard a large bundle of travel food and he is protesting that it's too much. She just pushes it into his bag anyway. "A man your size will certainly find room for it," she says in a laughing tone.
The guard heads straight for the two of them, face serious. "Dawnlord Menges has given instructions that every master in the basilica must be on alert."
Friar Bernard nods his head, "Of course, after last night's incident."
"No, sir. Not just due to that, sir," the man lowers his voice a bit and leans towards the other two. "After one of our guards was brought back from the market yestereve after an attack, the guards returned from patrolling around the basilica grounds during the initiate ceremony. We found his body was gone." By the intensity of his stance and his voice, it's obvious he was close to Tristan and is angry at this outrage. "We believe someone used the distraction of the ceremony to take him."
The three lower their voices even more, exchanging a few more words that you do not hear. Then the goliath grimly finishes packing his bag and signals that it's time to head out.
In a hushed voice, I’ll let the others in the group know the spell components are used for the spell [Tooltip Not Found]. I will also divulge what I observed happen with Warrel and Brackus after he was supposedly taken into custody. I’ll describe the building and see if anyone knows what building I’m talking about.
"By the goddess, something is rotten in the state of Eloth! Specifically in this basilica. We need some answers. Korlan, what to investigate that building when we get back? Also, those spell components were found near where the Dawnlord, his brother and his father were sitting. Do you think one of them cast the spell trying to conceal Warren's escape?"
Talking with Esvaris, “of course. I don’t carry these around for nothing.” I motion to my thieves tools. “Seems to me Lord Brackus was behind the whole incident at the ceremony. Who knows what else is going on inside there....”
At the mention of Lord Brackus, Demoiselle repeats to the group what she head the guard say in the market when the guard was killed. She then adds "Also, do we know who recruited Warrel into the temple?"
"You monster." she hears. "Tell me where she is!" and "I saw you talking to Brackus." "Show your face!" Suddenly, sickly green energy arches out and slams into his eyes, sucking the life force from him. He drops his weapon and falls to his knees, gurgling in pain. Seconds later he collapses to the ground.
After traveling half the day, out of the city, and north through pastureland changing slowly into a more wooded area with incredibly tall trees, you are foot sore and hungry. The cool of the forest finally opens up and you see before you a very old temple, with a large stone cobbled veranda and thick chiseled pillars supporting the roof. Time and neglect have taken their toll on this once beautiful temple. The enclosed back side of the temple has been partially destroyed by a massive tree that almost seems to be climbing up the temple to reach the sun. In the middle of the shadowy veranda is a pretty shrine with a peaked roof and a matching pyramid of bells on each side, though it is missing one bell on the back side. Friar Bernard sighs at the lovely sadness the entire structure presents. After bowing before the shrine and whispering a prayer to Usoara, he sits on the steps and unpacks his noon meal. He looks at all of you. "One of you must find the caretaker and one must ring the great bell to announce to the locals that clerics have come to serve them at the temple. But eat first." He returns to his meal preparation. The only great bell you see is on the roof with no obvious way up to it.
As Friar Bernard prays, I get on my knees and say my own prayer to Usoara. I get up and sit on the steps with Friar Bernard. I unpack a meal and begin to eat. I take a look around for a way to climb to the top of the temple. I do have pitons and rope in my bag, but I’d rather not damage the temple if I don’t have to.
I will cast guidance on myself before attempting to climb my way up.

If I get up on the roof, can I tie off a rope and help someone else up?
Korlan scales the enormous tree encroaching on the backside of the temple, ties a rope to it, and helps his elven friend. The back of the temple has several large open windows that look onto the back side of the veranda that wraps around the building. Through the windows you see that there is a very old stone door leading into the interior of the temple. As you climb, make a Perception check. Once you make it onto the crumbling stone roof, you find that the tiles are very unstable and loose. There, in the center of the roof, is a large bell suspended within a small bell tower. An old thick rope dangles down to the dark interior below. There must surely be access within the temple. But at least you have a lovely view from up here. To the East you can see a few small thatch roofed homes with smoke rising from their chimneys in clearings here and there, peaking out through the foliage, all separated from each other by the dense forest.
Demoiselle opened her mouth to offer to do either of the tasks and then chuckled as she was beaten to the proverbial punch. With an amused shrug she stayed where she was.
Quill, looking around with interest sees the little bell shrine that Friar Bernard prayed in front of, carved stone crumbling a bit around the edges, but still lovely, standing in the shadows of the stone veranda, surrounded by a forest of stone pillars. It's only real flaw is the missing bell on the back side at the top of the pyramid.
Korlan: As you climb the large tree, almost to the roof, you see a place where the grasping roots of the tree tore a small hole about two hands wide in the back wall of the temple. Inside you see a shadowy room with dim pictures painted on the walls that you can't quite make out. There must be an upper room to this temple, although there are no windows to it. The bell tower, on the roof, however, does appear to have iron rungs running down one side.
Demoiselle: Friar Bernard, sitting on the temple steps and ripping off chunks of dried beef, gestures towards the main entrance to the temple. You can just barely make out a single stone door, arched at the top, almost lost within the shadows of the pillared veranda.
I will call Esvaris over to the hole in the wall. I pick up a small stone piece from the roof. I hold the stone in my hand and cast light on the stone. I toss the illuminated stone into the room.
Quill frowns at this.
"This needs to be a secret, but I want you to know that I found this in Dawnlord Menges' room, all crumpled up in the fireplace," he says, pulling out the scrap of paper on turning into a Yuan-ti.
"Something's going on here."
And that's all I have to say about that.

I will eat. Afterward, I would like to try to climb/parkour my way up to the bell. Take whichever check is most relevant:

Quill looks around with interest, but doesn't say much.

Demoiselle nods agreeably and walks to the front door, checking to see if there is a knocker or suchlike or if she should simply enter.
Quill, not really sure what to do, follows Demoiselle.
