Korlan hits the ground, his back smacking into a thick gnarled tree root. (Falling Damage: 2) The wind is knocked out of him and as he looks up he sees the enormous figure of Friar Bernard looking down at him in confusion and a bit of amusement. "Why didn't you just use the door?"
He looks up at Esvaris. "We do not have much time here. The people in need of our services are awaiting our arrival." Then he shakes his head at the damage to the temple and the tree climbing it. "This holy place does not need our help to bring it down. Be careful."
Breathing heavy, “well..... Friar...... doors aren’t...... really my....... style......” I collapse back on the ground to catch my breath. After a few seconds on the ground, i yell for Esvaris to bring my rope down with him. Then I get up and dust myself off. I stand next to Friar Bernard. I will wait for Esvaris before I continue on inside.
I'm going to try something I once saw one of my teachers at the monetary do. I untie the rope, and attempt to retie it around the tree trunk using a quick release climber's hitch. If successful (or, at least if I think I have been successful), I will climb down on the static line, and then pull the release line to get the rope back.
Esvaris: (Make a sleight of hand check (DC 12) to attempt to tie the knot the way you remember it being done before. Then make a Dex check (DC 10) to successfully climb down.)
Quill: The stone half sun circle moves a bit as you press it, seeming to turn a tiny bit in it's foundation. The sun's rays no longer point straight down, but are turned slightly to the right. It seems as if you could spin the circle, if you wanted to.
Demoiselle is standing next to Quill as he does this.
Korlan and Bernard are watching Esvaris and his interesting performance... from directly below, the rubble of the shattered roof tile at their feet.
Quill: The stone circle turns, scraping softly, until the rays of the half sun point directly up. As it turns you hear a grinding noise as if a stone bolt is pulling away from the wall and into the door. The circle stops and settles into place. When you let go, the door swings inward. Within you see a large room with several statues of Usoara in different poses along the back wall, open double stone doors in the center, between the statues, leading to a darkened room, and a large rectangular pool of water in the floor. The water is somewhat dirty with leaves and other bracken floating in it, but the tiled walls and steps leading down into it from the far side can still be seen.
The thing that catches your attention most immediately is the old man standing in front of the pool, wispy white hair and scraggly beard quivering with tension, aiming a loaded crossbow directly at you and Demoiselle. In a scratchy, but coldly serious, voice he says, "The goddess may forgive burglars, but I don't."
Demoiselle holds up her holy symbol. "It is okay, bon prêtre, we are fellow devotees of the Goddess. We have come here from the Basilica with Friar Bernard, we are not here to rob you or cause trouble." She said in a soothing tone.
Quill and Demoiselle: Arms trembling a bit, the old man lowers his crossbow and squints at you. "Them fancy symbols mean you're here to work?" he asks in a querulous voice. "Guess you need to ring the bell then," he steps aside and points towards the open doors behind him. "Through there." Turning, he heads that direction, mumbling to himself darn near shot 'em.
Korlan and Esvaris: Friar Bernard opens his pack and pulls out a handful of pendant necklaces woven from string. Each one has a star shape on the end. Handing them to Esvaris he says, "Share these with the other novices. When the penitents and petitioners come, and after you meet their needs, give them one of these. It should cover a family of four in Usoara's blessing." Then he walks back around to the front of the temple to wait by the small shrine under the veranda.
"Pendants for penitents. Got it." I pass them out to my fellows, presumably seeing what Quill and Demoiselle have been up to. Then I go to the front of the shrine and look for people.
(Quill is possibly following the old man, out of the room with the pool and statues, through the open doors into the darkened room with the bell. You're supposed to ring it to call the nearby population, alerting them that a cleric is at the temple and available to perform religious services as needed.)
Demoiselle smiled and pointed at the bell. "Here we are, mon frère, we are to ring the bell. The folk here will be happy, I am sure, to know we are here."

What kind of check(s) shall I make?

"Fascinating," Quill mutters as he begins to spin the circle, watching the door carefully.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Esvaris lands neatly on the ground and retrieves Korlan's rope successfully.
Demoiselle holds up her holy symbol. "It is okay, bon prêtre, we are fellow devotees of the Goddess. We have come here from the Basilica with Friar Bernard, we are not here to rob you or cause trouble." She said in a soothing tone.
Quill steps back slightly, fumbling in his shirt collar to reveal the amulet on a string around his neck. He holds up the symbol, smiling nervously.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Your Detect Magic spell is still active, so you can see that all the string necklaces glow with magical energy.

Korlan:
You can tell that the pendants have two spells on them. One is probably Bless, but you're not sure about the other one.
Quill pauses.
"What are we doing, again?" he whisper-asks Demoiselle.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Quill flushes.
"Of course! I was just thinking about the door, I guess I wasn't paying attention."
He gestures towards the bell.
"After you?"
And that's all I have to say about that.
