Go pull next lever on north side of hall, then we will move to pull both south side levers. Unless something happens in the hallway or we have to deal with an immediate situation assume we pull all levers and then react to what we think they might have done after they have all been pulled

Shadow moves to the northwestern nitch and pulls the lever, nothing happens.
He moves to the southwestern nitch and pulls the lever, again nothing happens.
He continues the loop anx moves into the southeastern nitch and pulls the lever. As with the northeastern area after pulling the level gears in the nitch start moving and making noise, and a couple ropes start moving. One rope moves upward from a hole in the floor into an opening in the ceiling, and a second rope (or possibly the same one) moving downward from a hole in the ceiling into the floor below you.
Shadow moves to the opening in the western end of the hallway and looks into the room, he sees...
Smashed tables and chairs litter the floor of this room. Hundreds of tiny wooden and metal gear mechanisms spill from sundered crates, and a four-foot-high mound of stone rubble fills the northwest corner. Mounted to the twenty-foot-high ceiling are two large wooden fans strung with cobwebs. The fans are connected to some gears and rope belts that cross the ceiling and disappear into the wall on either side of the eastern exit (where you are). In the middle of the room stands something draped in a large gray sheet. The shrouded object is roughly five feet tall, five feet wide, and irregular in shape. There is a staircase leading south in the southern wall, and to the north is another tunnel, probably connecting to the tunnels you were in earlier.
Shadow will investigate the automaton to see if he can figure out how it works or if it can be tuned on/off. He wonders if it can be made to work for the party

(Not that leveeeeeeeeeeer!!!!!!)
(How big are the holes the ropes are coming throw? Big enough to climb through, or just large enough to let the ropes throuhg?)
The book doesn't say but I imagine just enough for the ropes to move without chafing.
Since we don’t know what happened shadow will lead everyone west to see if there is an exit to the hallway
