Grimbald recalls that killing the alpha squirrel King Croaker, may cause a civil war. He will choose the moment, kill the king and throw the crown to group of bullywugs if the opportunity arises.
Just to clarify, we are having a short rest or a long rest? You said long rest but not sure if it was a typo.
Esa will settle down to rest, the wind knocked out of her sails after the battle. She pushes herself against the rocks of the cavern with a solemn look, arms crossed.
She leaves the chieftain to be watched by the stronger members of the group.
After a time spent bandaging wounds, resting aching body parts (spend any hit dice if you want to), the party is ready to resume.
As they are deciding what to do, a younger bullywug comes around the corner, gripping a spear. It stops when it sees the party, and then looks with wild eyes at the bullywug bodies lying around. It croaks what can only be a distressed query and the bullywug chieftain gives a strong, deep croak. When the young bullywug doesn't move, the bullywug chieftain takes a step towards the younger one, it's croak softer but still firm. The young bullywug looks to the chieftain for the first time and some dialogue passes between them. The young bullywug turns and does the hopping run that bullywugs do.
The chieftain turns to the party and makes a placating gesture indicating there is no threat. The party wonders if that was the bullywugs son or young relative.
Esa isnt sure how she feels about killing a child, especially after it and the chieftain are so obviously trying to be non-threatening.
She uncomfortably shifts on Augustin's shoulder, before casting Minor Illusion in front of the chieftain. she conjures a small transparent image of some townsfolk, looking hurt and frightened. She then points to the chieftain, then to Augustin's weapon at his side, giving the chieftain a firm look. Sure he cannot understand her, she speaks slowly "If... you... make... trouble... we... will... kill..."
She then turns the image to look like the young bullywug, it's throat cut and bleeding. Esa looks at the chieftain to see if he understands. She tugs on Augustin's collar and says to him with an unsteady arrogance, "You know, I'm not much of a kid killer myself. I doubt you are too."
I don't think Grimbald has communicated this to the party. It's only the chieftain that he is thinking of killing, the younger bullywug has left already, gone back to wherever they came from.

He looks around and grabs a sharp rock, then in the mud he draws a cave and several crooked-legged stick figures moving away from the cave. He draws some trees that the stick figures are moving towards, and then draws what could be a house on the other side of the cave, indicating the stick figures are moving towards the trees and away from the cave and the house.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After the short rest, Grimbald is keen to go further into the cave and kill combative croakers. Insight check on the Bullywug and whether he is trying to deceive us to leave the cave. 7

Grimbald is pretty sure the chieftain is on the level.
Can I get close enough behind cover to get a view or understanding of how many bullywugs and the general layout of the room please. Then will report back to the party.
The tunnel takes a sharp right and Stryke in wolf form peers down the tunnel. THe same green luminous moss dimly lights the area. There are old reed mats lying all over the floor, some crude bowls and tools.
There is a bunch of bullywugs here, smaller ones, older ones, Stryke guesses them to be non-combatants. Some grasp pointed sticks, some have rocks. They are obviously scared and distressed. Some are croaking with the young bullywug who came out to find out what was going on.
There is another tunnel at the back and this is where the faint smell of human comes from.
Head back to the party and try to draw in the dirt with a claw what I have found out. draw big old frogs, little frogs, spears with a cross over them. drop a cavern with another tunnel.

Yep short rest, I corrected it :)

The bullywug chieftain turns back to look at the tunnel the young bullywug left by. He seems lost in thought, his shield hanging loose by his side.
Grimbald, if he so chooses, (or anyone really), has the perfect opportunity to stab the bullywug chieftain right through the back into his heart.
Do we know that's what Grimbald is planning?
Any of the party within 5ft of chief?

Anyone could easily move within 5ft of the chieftain.

Bonus action wild shape into a wolf.
Advantage on perception checks for hearing and smell focusing down the other tunnel. 17.
try to stealth down the tunnel to where I can detect something 19
Stryke can smell bullywugs, and hear bullywugs, quite a few of them. There is also a more distant smell of humans too.

Do i need a performance or persuasion check?
Nope, there's no time pressure so you get the message to them eventually.
