"It says on the map we need to go northeast and walk for two miles. So if you want to take a 'call from nature', better do it now.
You don't want to be surprised while you do your 'business' inside the jungle."
Fuzzyfeet puts the map back to its case and puts it inside his backpack. He also tries to blend into the greenery while trekking through the jungle as he waits for his companions.
A band of adventurers sneaks up on a bandit camp, springing from the trees to attack them. A gelatinous cube glides down a dungeon passage, unnoticed by the adventurers until the cube engulfs one of them. In these situations, one side of the battle gains surprise over the other.
The DM determines who might be surprised. If neither side tries to be stealthy, they automatically notice each other. Otherwise, the DM compares the Dexterity (Stealth) checks of anyone hiding with the passive Wisdom (Perception) score of each creature on the opposing side. Any character or monster that doesn't notice a threat is surprised at the start of the encounter.
If you're surprised, you can't move or take an action on your first turn of the combat, and you can't take a reaction until that turn ends. A member of a group can be surprised even if the other members aren't.
Not that the DM has to stick to this of course, DM always has final say)
OOC: This is Cedrick's turn if it still makes sense when it gets to him in initiative order.
Cedrick finishes his prayer for strength to Helm, and turns his full attention to the monster that lays before them. Raising his shield and with a might cry, he swings his mace at the 2 headed monstrosity.
(OOC: Hey everyone, I don't think this games is working out for me. I'm very sorry, I hope the best for you all. Maybe you could have the creature eat my character whole, to explain my absence. Good luck with your journeys)
The horrible beast falls dead... Directly onto void, crushing him. The corpse bursts into flames and melts into the ground, leaving no trace of itself or void.
The voice of BLOODFEAST the destroyer rings out:
"THIS IS UNFORTUNATE, BROTHER!"
Pietr replies:
"Agreed, Bloodfeast. We shall give him a proper funeral, even if there isn't a body to bury."
Cinder stares in absolute awe and fear, looking at the others before slowly starting to clap. "That was something! Terrible and horrible to lose a comrade but by Lady Fierna undergarments that was just absolutely ridiculous." Looks at Fuzzy, "Big sneaky and furry, don't you think that was something?!"
