The Black Rose has used both his action and his bonus action in the free extra round and plans on doing so in the next round as well when we get to his turn. So you could say that he is too busy keeping the lizards at bay to listen for anything besides what his passive perception will allow him :)
Erolith listens to the wind and has been attempting to learn more about the sounds in the clearing since before he was rushed by the giant lizard. He continues to attempt to understand what is drawing his attention.
The Black Rose focused intently on the battle at hand, utilizing all his resources to keep the giant lizards at bay. With a swift and precise motion, he swung his quarterstaff through the air, its arc calculated to intercept the approaching foes. Following up seamlessly, he unleashed a powerful punch aimed at the nearest giant lizard, channeling both agility and strength in an attempt to deter their advance.
-----------
Instead of using his action and/or bonus action to listen, The Black Rose is focusing on bringing the giant lizards down.
Quarterstaff: to hit 12 and deal 6 damage if it hits.
--------------------------------------------- Was waiting for lizards to make their attack and just re-read the post and realized that we get another action before they escape the pen. Will keep the bonus action listening attempt from above as part of his turn. ---------------------------------------------
Hoping to scare off the lizards before they can attack, Tarton steadies himself atop the training pen wall and shoots another arrow down at the same lizard he hit before.
In between the swish and thump of Tarton's arrow and The Black Rose' staff striking their respective targets, and the swish and swish of The Black Rose' fist missing as his lizard flinches left and back from his staff instead of straight back as he had anticipated, all who are listening can hear sibilant voices on the wind, voices speaking in Draconic. Only Tarton and Gwrgi know enough of that tongue to make out a few scraps: there are repeated references to "the spoor of darkness", "blood", "lizard riders", and what sounds like a name, Ts’serh’stchah.

Still, while keeping track of the positions of the giant lizards, The Black Rose joined the conversation. "Who are you talking to?" The Black Rose was confused since he had been too focused on the lizards to notice the voice on the wind.

Most certainly! As far as Artifex can tell, they were quite intimidating indeed, throwing just the right note of implied menace into their words without overplaying their hand. Unfortunately, there is no change in the whispering all about, so they have no idea if they failed to be understood or if the creatures surrounding them are just tough to intimidate and simply ignoring their words. Meantime the remaining two lizards, maddened by the blows, hiss with rage and sluggishly charge!

Sure! Aaracockra are native to the mountain range that eventually blends into the Cricket Tor campaign area, but they tend not to come that far east as a regular thing ... they could well have gotten some inkling of the maneuverings among the giants that this adventure is based on, though, and be sending a messenger to warn the colonists. Tjey DO live near enough the frost giants for that; its just that they, like the fey races, are original native to this continent; and the aaracockra are much more apt to view the settlers askance and avoid the areas they live except at necessity.

I'm assuming you also are new to D&D and play by post forums and this isn't deliberate rudeness, but please ask to join my game next time before you just jump in and start posting what your character does. For one thing, I don't have any details on who your character is, so I can't figure out things that are affected by -- for instance -- what your character's class is, or whether she's an elf, a tiefling or a human.
Please post a character APPLICATION in this thread. That's generally a capsule description of the character you intend to play in the game you're asking to join. Different DMs want to know different things, but I generally ask: the character's name; their D&D race; their class and any thoughts you might have about what subclass you might want them to specialize in at 3rd level (or whenever); and their backstory. I like the storytelling / RP-heavy approach to D&D, so I like a little tale about who the character is more than what their Players Handbook personality traits are, but that's just a personal crtchet of mine, either approach is fine with me. After you've posted this application, I'll consider if that character would work well with the group I already have and the adventure I have planned. If I accept that character / player combination for a spot in the game, I'll send the player a DM that their character was accepted, send them the campaign link to join and get access to shared content and campaign log tools; and arrange for a time and place to work their character into the story.
Thanks! Looking forward to hearing from you both :-)
The Black Rose swings his quarterstaff and follows up with a punch to keep the giant lizards at bay. However, he is no longer focused; a distraction has set in. Artifex's revelation about multiple creatures hiding around in the bushes has diverted his attention.

Sorry I'm new to this all mainly this app I do rolplaying a lot though so I'm so sorry
Totally understood! Really didn't mean to sound so preachy either. The app's actually pretty good to roleplay with once you get used to the quirks and customs. For instance, there's a feature to add a dice roll to your forum post; but once you do that, then if you don't protect that roll by quoting your own post using the "Quote" command in the lower right of the post FIRST and then edit the COPY, the forum might reroll those dice when you next edit and then flag the post as having 'potentially manipulated dice results.' There should be some FAQ posts at the top of the forum boards that can fill in a bit more, and most players and DMs are happy to explain things while you're learning the mechanics of this particular way of playing
Anyway, I do have a few spots open for this thread and a few for the other game I'm running (set in this campaign world; indeed, in the same basic area tending to some of the same employer's more business-related jobs -- may or may not be crossover depending how the story lines develop). So if either one interests you, please do go ahead and apply. The other game is at https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/play-by-post/187894-we-trade-in-madness-around-here-too-you-know-a

As the words being spoken sink into Tarton's mind, especially 'the spoor of darkness' and the name Ts’serh’stchah, he suddenly feels exposed being above everyone on top of the pen. For his action, he looks around for the source of the voices and any movement in the grass that could mean something is moving towards the clearing, ignoring the lizards that are fleeing. While looking around an not seeing anything, he puts his bow away and says loudly in Draconic, "We are only looking for a place to sleep for the night as we travel up the river. We would have left this place once we saw the lizard pens were occupied but they had already been set to attack us."
To the rest of his party Tarton whispers down to them, "I can't make out how many there are or where, but I suddenly feel exposed up here. With there repeated mention of lizard riders, I think they are waiting for backup, which could be bad for us. Since I didn't hear any change in their tone or volume in response to Artifex's words I am hoping they didn't understand him and have told them we're only looking for a place to sleep for the night. In case that doesn't work, I'll stay up here to hopefully draw their attacks. That way you'll know what direction they're coming from."
------------------------------------------ Does Tarton recognize the name Ts’serh’stchah or does it give him any particular uneasiness? Not sure what I should roll, if at all.
