Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
"Agreed.," says Spira. "We'll be back as soon as we finish tending the fallen."
===============
(OOC: Yay! Spira gets to use ceremony after all! Though I really hope its protection won't become necessary LOL: "...Funeral Rite. You touch one corpse, and for the next 7 days, the target can’t become undead by any means short of a wish spell.")
Well, the ceremony of caring for the dead is proceeding without incident.
Surprisingly, Solitude decides to participate and, even if she stands aside and doesn't say a word, she follows the rite with great attention.
Finally, she approaches Spira: "I don't want to be the devil. But I can't forgive them, after what they have done. Not yet. All I wish them for now, is to end up tortured by the devils of the Nine Hells. However..." and she stares for a few long moments with her scleraless golden eyes into those of the cleric "thank you for the example you set for me. Perhaps, thanks to this, one day I will learn to forgive too".
Then it's time to organize the rest...
OOC:
OK, to let everyone rest at least 8 hours without wasting too much time, you could for example organize 3 shifts of 4 hours each - so even those who take a shift rest 8 hours anyway. In this way, after 12 hours you would be ready to go again. As a time of day, it would be before dawn of the new day, because you are going to bed early (but this has no particular consequences as long as you are in the dungeon environment, isolated as it is from the outside environment... in truth, some of you may not even be fully aware of what time of day it is after some time).
If that's okay with you, decide who takes which shift and I'll tell you what happens. Otherwise, feel free to organize yourself differently...
"Honestly, I don't think anyone expects you to,"Rash tells Solitude. "You've been through hell at their hands. But their fate is up to the gods now."
(OOC: I think that Spira and Aidwyn said they would take 1st shift, and Rash already agreed to take second shift. I like the idea of using three 4-hour shifts for the purpose of everyone getting enough sleep. Rash would prefer to be paired with someone who is more perceptive than he is. I know Solitude is going to need a full night of sleep, but is Gaer up for joining whoever wants to take the final shift. If he is, it would make sense for him to do so since he has darkvision and neither Obadiah nor Roxana share that ability).
(OOC: Gaer agrees to take last shift - he will thus have already recovered - having already rested his 8 hours. So just to decide if Obadiah takes 2nd shift with Rash and Roxana last with Gaer, or the other way around)
"I suppose I can take the last watch," Roxana says. "If Obidiah will get up with Rash. And we can ask Gaer or Solitude - or both - to join me. That way they can get a full rest and then be up? If all are agreed?" Since it sounds like she will be getting to sleep first, she starts to get her bedroll out to make a spot to rest.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Spira asks him to help move the bodies of the dead zhents the white-haired warrior nods and gets up to follow the tiefling, giving her a weak smile for her gracious attempt to comfort him. He stays for the funeral rites, forcing upon himself the torment of watching the corpses of those he had slain in furious rage. How could he possibly find peace with the guilt and shame piling up as the bodies of his victims. The only hope he could see, the one thing that kept him going, was the notion of being able to bring back his wife and children. As they all return to the dormitory Obadiah finds a bunk, ready to take whichever watch he is chosen for. He was in dire need of rest but he wasn't welcoming it, sleep would simply make him relive his nightmare, again and again.
Perception for watch if needed: 23 (Let's say Obie takes second watch with Rash then.)
OK... Our grown up group of heroes takes a well-deserved rest, without renouncing the caution of well-organized guard duty.
Whether for that, or perhaps because the dungeon is still very little known, no one comes to disturb the peace of the dormitory.
Long hours go by, and food, water, and rest allow virtually everyone to finally feel like new.
(OOC: You all can get the Long Rest's benefits!)
Only Solitude still appears not at her best... but on the other hand she had been a prisoner much longer than Gaer.
She is really amazed to discover, when she wakes up, that someone has thought of preparing a crane for her... The tiefling ex-prisoner looks around, as if trying to read in the expression of those present who may have been the author of the gesture. Her gaze lingers on Aidwyn longer than on others… does she even send her an imperceptible nod of thanks?
Be that as it may, after having slowly chewed one last mouthful of dried meat and having drunk one last drop of water, she is ready to follow you.
Gaer suggests she stay in the center of the group, together with him: "So, in case of trouble, we'll be able to help from a distance, both behind and in front" he winks "Quspira has always been the one with the hardest head… let her be our expendable vanguard!"
Solitude agrees (at least to position herself in the middle with Gaer - she says nothing about Quspira and her heard).
"Before we go, I need to make sure the prisoners are fed," Rash says. "Wouldn't want them to think that we're the same as them, after all."
Rash takes a few moments to re-adjust his spell list... he doubts he's going to need to cast sleep, and so swaps it out for absorb elements. Then he'll go get some food and water for Anita and the two men.
He knocks to let the girl know that he's coming in and ask her to get the men away from the door.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
"Sure! Come in Rash!" Anita exclaims, apparently in a good mood.
And indeed, as soon as she enters, the half-orc notices that the two other prisoners are still tied up and away from the door... They look very badly at Anita, but she doesn't seem to care too much.
The older of the two, the man, has one more bruise than the wizard remembered... in one eye... but the 'future assistant', following her mentor's gaze, hastens to explain: "I told Kenzo several times to stop wriggling and trying to free himself from the ropes... But he gave me a menacing look in response and kept doing... In the end, I kicked him there and told him that, if he didn't stop, I would kick lower... He seems to have understood".
Aidwyn goes with Rash again, in case he needs help. She cannot help but throw a fast look at Solitude and she quickly lower her face, trying to hide her blush and a smile on her face being closer to the tiefling.
"That's a good girl," he says as he hands her some food and a water skin. "That being said, in spite of their recalcitrance I don't want them to starve. They might not like you very much right now, but at least they know you, so perhaps it would be better if you feed them than me... sorry boys, but I'm afraid you haven't earned the right to be untied just yet."
After the three have been fed and the gags replaced on the men, Rash decides that he should probably have a chat with his future assistant about a few things.
"Anita... I think we'd better go outside and talk about something... where these two can't hear us. I'm afraid most of the others don't trust you quite yet, so I'm going to have to ask you to put your hands behind your back; once they're tied we can go out into the hall."
Rash takes a few moments to bind Anita's hands behind her back (assuming she doesn't protest). He then ushers her into the hallway, closes and locks the door to the prison room, and then takes her some ways down the hall to make certain that the two men can't hear the conversation.
When the gag is removed from the two prisoners, Kenzo, the man with the moustache, staring angrily at the 'traitor', hisses venomously at her: "Anita, you stupid girl! You'll regret this! No one betrays the Zhentarim and lives, do you understand?! No one... You were a fool not to help me free myself... We could have tried to break down the door and escape. Or catch them by surprise and strangle them with ropes. We would have had a chance. You would have had a chance! Now... Now you've only signed your own death warrant, you poor fool! The Zhentarim will find you... and pray I'll not among them!"
Anita seems shaken by the man's words, she struggles to hold his fixed and ruthless gaze ...
"Let them come!" she tries to appear defiant - but her voice shakes a little "I am with the ones who have already beaten them..."
"Stupid!" says the other "First of all, your new friends are just using you... like everyone did before you met us! As soon as they don't need you anymore, you'll end up dancing in the wind, hanging from a tree. But even if they decide to keep you with them... Do you think they could beat a bunch of real Zhentarim? Wake up, stupid! We were sent with Mhurren because we were scum! Because no one really believed that stupid half-orc could do any good; we were entrusted only because, if by some miracle he succeeded, the Zhentarim would benefit. And if Mhurren failed, as everyone expected, only we, who had always proved ourselves to be bad elements, would lose out. Elements stupid like you... Or elements with tongue out of control, like me... Shall I continue?"
Although shaken by Kenzo's words, Anita looks Rash in the eyes... There is always the same light, in the half-orc's eyes... There is that... attention, that... respect... That care. The ex -Zhentarim seems to find decision and firmness again, she lets herself be tied up: "I trust you, Rash. And... the decision I made doesn't change. I'm with you".
She lets herself be guided down the hall...
(OOC: By the way, for the great effort in trying to bring poor Anita back on the right path and in building a relationship with her, I grant Rash inspiration)
Rash glares at the two men for attempting to intimidate the girl.
"If the Zhentarim care so little as you say, then they will have no reason to know or care what became of you or her. And if they really did send you all on a suicide mission, it seems to me that the only logical thing to do is jump at a better opportunity when it is presented."
Once they're out of earshot, Rash will go ahead and explain the situation.
"Anita, today my companions and I are going to try to complete the task that we set out to accomplish... and I won't lie, it may very well be dangerous. The chance is small; after all, I am a wizard my companions are no pushovers either, but... if we aren't able to return in a timely fashion for whatever reason, I don't want to risk leaving you locked in that room with no way to free yourself."
He hesitates for a moment... then makes his decision.
"If we aren't back within a day, two at most, I want you to be able to leave this place... if you can do so safely, send someone from Longsaddle back for those two... I doubt that there is any fate for them besides to hang if they are turned over to the authorities, but it's still better than being left to die of thirst here if anything happens to my companions and I. I doubt Solitude and Gaer would stand for it if I just let you go free and trusted you to wait for us, so I want to give you a choice:
The first option that I could think of is to summon a familiar to act as a 'guard,' with orders to unlock the prison if I'm not able to return by the end of the day. If you end up having to be released by my familiar, I want you to promise that you won't come rushing into the basement to find me. Just wait for a day or two, then get out of here. Also... be careful of Wumgu... that goblin probably still has just as much of a grudge as Solitude, if not more. He was lingering near the front entrance of the cave last time I saw him.
The second option I see is more dangerous... and could be a little bit rough if the others don't agree that you've proven yourself trustworthy by taking care of your friends for the night... but if you're going to be my assistant I want to give you the option to come with us. If you choose that, I want you to promise me that you will stay as far away as you reasonably can from any danger that we may encounter, and that if anything happens to me you will run to safety and not look back. Also... understand that we will need to consult the others before I can promise that they will allow you to join us on this final leg of our journey, so we might have to go with option one if I am voted down. But I think that the others respect me enough that I'll be able to convince them, especially if Firebraids puts in a good word for you as well."
"Did you just find out that - if that dungbag Kenzo guessed right - the Zhentarim sent me here because they thought me worthless... and you still want me with you on this important mission?!" Anita, who at first seemed a bit dejected by the verbal confrontation, suddenly perks up "Of course I want to start being your assistant right away, Rash! Did you see? I didn't disappoint you, in guarding the prisoners ... I won't let you down this time either. And I won't let that 'anything happens to you'; not on my watch! Just give me my weapons back..."
"Come on, let's go ask our adventure companions" the girl with the ponytail tries to show confidence. "After all, you're the wizard, aren't you? The one who's smart and gets things right. They should listen to you".
"That jackass was just trying to get under your skin,"Rash tells the girl."If you were really the fool he says you are, then you would have done exactly what he wanted last night an untied him so that he could make a futile escape attempt. No, I think you're a very bright girl."
He looks to where Aidwyn is waiting.
"Looks like the prisoners are still secure, just like I knew they would be. Let's go have a chat with the others and see if we can't convince them to give this little lady the chance I know she deserves. Also, now that I think of it I should really probably summon a familiar anyway before we go. It's always useful to have an advance scout."
Solitude was approaching, interested, and hearing Aidwyn's opinion on the prisoner, she intervenes: "I'm glad you're starting to realize it too... And it's better to get rid of the 'scum', don't you think?" she grins in anticipation, stroking the mace she stole from a dead Zhentarim. "Let me in for a moment… Our comrades are good people, whom I am learning to respect… but they are too soft-hearted for their own good. The 'scum' that's in here won't do anything good. Every moment they breathe, it's just a new chance for them to start again to do that harm that the ropes, for now, are preventing them from doing. Just let me in. I'll come out a moment later and we'll have two less problems".
Adiwyn looks at Solitude's eyes and camly put her hand into the tiefling's hand.
"No... they will get what they deserve, after a trial and they will meet justice.. but I won't let you in Solitude. " anticipating her outburst she gently squeeze her hand "Listen to me. Part of me wants to stab them in their black hearts too, and get rid of their malice once and for all, I do not care about them. But I do care about you "she puts her face in front of Solitude's face looking her into her pupiless eyes." I know you are angry, and you have all the right to be, but if you go inside and kill those bastards you are not going to recover what they took from you... you are going to lose one more important thing. You are going to lose a part of your soul, and that's irrepacable. You have a sharp mind, a brave heart and a bright, beautiful soul. Do not let them rip that from you. You are stronger than that. You've endured more that I can even imagine, that I coudl possibly dream of endure... and yet you are still... you. Now yoy have the chance to prove, not to them, or to those stupid bigots that can't see beyond their own hatred and ignorance... but to you that you are better than all of them. I know you are. "

"That jackass was just trying to get under your skin," Rash tells the girl. "If you were really the fool he says you are, then you would have done exactly what he wanted last night an untied him so that he could make a futile escape attempt.
Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?

“You are right in one thing” says Aidwyn while putting back the gag on the despicable man as Rash and Anita leave the room “you are scum”
She then exists the prison and closes the door, locking it again, and wait at a distance while Rash and the young girl talk givin them privacy.

But I do care about you " she puts her face in front of Solitude's face looking her into her pupiless eyes." I know you are angry, and you have all the right to be, but if you go inside and kill those bastards you are not going to recover what they took from you... you are going to lose one more important thing. "
