"That may be worth a shot, Daisy. But I have a question for Tarysaa, could your sleep spell take out both guards?"
(OOC: It's Tyrgram that has sleep, not Tarysaa)
He ponders:"It could... It depends how tough and healthy they are. If someone could wound them before I cast the spell, I'd have an even greater chance of success - it works better on already weakened subjects... But of course it could take them down even at full health. Depends how tough they are. Anyway, I really expect that at least one of them falls".
“Could we jump them and just take out one while the other gets sleep’d?

"If I had a clear 'reach out and touch someone' moment, through the hole, I could useSHOCKING GRASPwhich would at least stun one if not drop them. My other option is 'just' to be able to see them both and I can tryMAGIC MISSILE. With MM, I can split hit one with two missiles and maybe get in a good scare with one missile to the other... or at least that is the hope. Biggest obstacle to either move is to be able to SEE them or be close enough to touch one. Too bad no one has a rope trick or instant ladder or levitate or ..."Tarysaa said as she glanced back up the tunnel.
"Now, if we had someone stationed beside the hole... I can make silly sounds or something like loud whispers which MIGHT lure them to stick their head into the hole. THEN, that stationed 'someone' might just jerk them in and down to us -- waiting to pounce on them?"

"And if they were stupid enough to expose themselves," adds Engelhart "even if they didn't decide to come down... you could hit them from a distance with your spell and Tyrgram immediately after use his... He said his sleep works best on already weakened targets... This could be the end of them. The only problem is that Tyrgram and I can't see them in the dark. We need a way to light them... or just hope they bring a light source with them".

If one comes down to check things out with whatever diversion we make, then doesn't come back, hopefully we can get the other one down here to check on their friend."

"Then we have to think of something that can convince them to come down..." Tyrgram thinks "Do you want to try simple suspicious noises? Or try to deceive them completely, with one of us pretending to be alone, naive (maybe lost or wounded) and full of money, to induce them to go down and rob him?"
"I don't think we can lure them down, I think they are suspicious of this tunnel but haven't explored it, and two guards aren't likely to start exploring. How about we try the sleep spell and at the same time use the earth spell to give us a boost on the hole. This will create some noise, and if one of the guards is awake and looks into the hole to see whats going on we can strike with ranged weapons before we climb out. Tarysaa, how many people could stand at the bottom of the hole to see to the top?"
(OOC: If we get surprise maybe we can take turns firing up the hole at the surprised guard?)
(OOC: If we get surprise maybe we can take turns firing up the hole at the surprised guard?)
From Player's Handbook: If you're surprised, you can't move or take an action on your first turn of the combat, and you can't take a reaction until that turn ends.
So, if you surprise the sentinels, you all can take a turn... A turn allows you both movement and action, therefore nothing prevents a character from attacking from a distance then using their movement to move away and leave place for another character.
“Lets’s rush the guards. We’ll have someone light a torch for you (OOC;intentionally move last/hold your spell so that they have as much damage on them as possible) and we’ll keep one of them busy while the other is dropped with sleep”

"We can make a noise to attract a guard to the hole, and have someone who can see in this light ready a ranged attack - Hart would be perfect but she's human and is having problems seeing, Someone could give me a torch and I can toss it up to give Tyrgram and Hart some light for them to attack while the guard still is surprised. Ilwythe and myself should try to rush climb. The noise make could be to improve the ability to climb via Daisy's spell."
"I think we will have to do the best we can, with range and sleep, and then work on the ramp later then. Ilwythe and I can do the best we can climbing under duress if we have to. If it doesn't work, we can retreat down the tunnel and try the front entrance, though they may be more on guard then."
"If I get a bit dirty and lay down in the rubble, I can pretend to be injured. Some sobbing and pleading and maybe they will come down to investigate... or try to rob me. It isn't a huge hole, so they can't storm through with several bodies at once. " Tarysaa frown a bit at the thought of having to play act so much but... sometimes necessities dictated actions.
[ WORST CASE SCENERIO: They all know about this rear 'entrance' and send a squad down the tunnel. Either way, we get incoming from a hole or the tunnel. Plant a torch within 10 ft of me and I can cantrip it aflame. One near the insect hole and one down the tunnel beyond the two 'bends'. I can either 'fire blind' those coming down from the hole. Or, if others come along the tunnel, I can run up and flair the torch so they are surprised and fully 'lit' to be targets for projectiles or spells. ]
Let’s do that. I don’t have anything better as an idea.

So, if I understand correctly, plan is: - Tarysaa plays the Damsell In Distress at the end of the tunnel, under the hole - An unlit torch is planted in the ground, within 10' of her - The others stay behind the last bend of the tunnel (about 10' distance) out of sight
If the guards arrive, Tarysaa magically lights the torch and, hoping to surprise the guards, the others rush in and try to eliminate them—or at least weaken them, so that Tyrgram, acting last, can put them to to sleep with his spell.
If so... well, you get ready and Tarysaa, as soon as she feels like, can posts her Damsell-In-Distress performance. 😉

So we could make a noise, when one guard looks over we attack with surprise, this surprise round could include the sleep spell. This plan could work.
Just remember Tyrgram is human so he needs light to see where to center his sleep spell. Magical or mundane, but light he needs.
The guards have no light at the top? Does that mean they are not human?
Tarysaa did not see a light (maybe they have it and it was very covered... or maybe they are not human).
