Normont watches as Quinn starts to struggle through the gap, "Hm, for some reason I thought as an earth genasi you would find this easier. Shows what I know". He chuckles a little, before leading the way back up the tunnel.
As he moves back, he finds a loose rock or two and causes them to glow to help everyone see. Even with night vision a bit of light is helpful and comfortable. He still carries his glowing tool for himself.
"Feel free to grab a glowing rock. It's not much light, but helps when investigating".
(OOC: Two glowing rocks, 5ft bright light, further 5ft dim light - assuming it would be pitch dark otherwise @dm? Also, I realise others might have better light sources, Normont is just being helpful :-) )
With everyone within they make their way to the rear of the space avoiding the once-bats to the pillar and the trickle from the roof that causes the rivulet that runs to the pool and its overflows outside...
Looking up the stone looks friable and Quinns familial sense tells him it can be broken open but its impossible to tell how much of the liquid lies above.....
“My pa used to tell a story,” Dev recounts, “of an old pauper who lived in a cave. On scraps? And handouts. People treated him badly because he was so poor. But it turned out the cave was a secret entrance to an underground palace. So every night he entered the secret door, shed his rags, and danced on floors with golden tiles.
”Maybe there’s another way in to where the black water is?” (OOC: Dev will give inspiration to an Investigation roll, himself inspired now to quietly sing the story as verses, alternating dirge and tarantella.)
"Perhaps Amber can get through and check what is up there", Normont says, and asks in gnomish if she would try. He gives her a pebble that he makes shine so she can see, and so they can keep track of her a little if she does manage to squeeze through.
(OOC: Maybe Amber could get the bardic inspiration @1973? If she can get through)
Amber takes the glowing stone in her mouth and jams herself into the crack in the rock above digging with her metallic paws and dropping dust and shale into the room below, eventually she disappears from sight and Normont listens at the gap.
Amber does her best to wiggle through the crack, and as she does, Normont helps her to focus. She then disappears from view and he does his best to keep track of her prgress through sound and any hints of the light she carries.
"I think you going in as well is a good idea", he replies curiously to Lokilia, wanting to see what new shape she would choose.
Normont hears a surprised yelp from Amber and spattering and sizzling sound as some sort of liquid spray evidently missed her. There was a slightly confused burbling sound from above..
Dev’s worried expression finds each of his companions in turn.
“There’s something up there…,” Dev says, but he is focused on the sound he heard. “Wait, is it… saying something?”
Maybe if it’s a creature, he can speak with it? Maybe it’s trapped and hurt?
His brow notched in concentration, Dev whistles a few soft notes on his pan pipes. Thirty feet above him, or, as close to the source of the burbling as he can manage, Dev creates a minor illusion, exactly replicating the confused sound he heard a moment ago. Then he motions for silence, listening for a response.
Magnus with a worried look on his face moves back from the crevice and place his back to the wall, prepared to defend himself from anything that comes through the crevice.
Dev’s eyes widen, and he winces somewhat at what he thought he heard. Only one way to be sure. He plays another short tune, sending another minor illusion in the same burbling voice but quite clearly enunciated in the common tongue up the crack with the message:
”Umm… did you say, ‘What’s that?, Who is it?, craawk!, What’s up, doc?, kill it, rip it, gloom?’” And after a short pause, Dev’s fingers fluttering on the pan flute, “Oh, and hello. Are you hurt?”
There is a sudden bout of thumping and screaming from above as something impacts the crevice at speed and wriggles through as Amber emerges at speed and heads straight to Normonts shoulder.
There is a shifting sound and something pale, moist and loathsome squirms through the tiny gap....it looks to be a tendril of flesh but tipped with dozens of sharp, tough fingernails...it gropes around in the air as if seeking something....likely Amber.
After a few seconds it withdraws and whatever is above begins screaming and yelling and pounding at the stone sending dust, shale and small fragments of rock......and occasionally drops of black liquid into the chamber they are standing in....
It makes no further reply to Devs attempts to communicate.

"I am more of the open air kind of Earth genasi, but I can tell that we can open up the tunnel causing the water to pour out but we may drown."

( Could I get a Dex Saving throw for Amber.)
Lokilia watches with interest as Amber tries to fit into the crack. "I can try and get in there if that doesn't work."

Normont hears a surprised yelp from Amber and spattering and sizzling sound as some sort of liquid spray evidently missed her. There was a slightly confused burbling sound from above..
"Nuts and bolts, I think there is something up there with her!", Normont exclaims.
"Come back if you can, Amber", he calls out in Gnomish.
At this point he unstraps his shield and takes out his pistol.
Dev’s worried expression finds each of his companions in turn.

Just about ready to try to join Amber at Normont's suggestion, Lokilia now hesitates. "That sounded like..." She pauses as Dev motions for silence.

Magnus with a worried look on his face moves back from the crevice and place his back to the wall, prepared to defend himself from anything that comes through the crevice.
The sound of Devs echo filters down through the cracked stone then momentary silence before a heavy, wet impact on the stone above.
" Wharg thabb? Hoo bisit...craaaawk....whissips dark....kkilllit..rrippit...guurururullllmmmmmm"

Normont looks to Dev, "You understand it? It sounds unhappy. Could it be the light Amber took up? Or Amber herself?".
He once again calls out in Gnomish, "Try and get back here, Amber". He once again using his link to her to help her.
