"Maggie! Oh, no!" 'I have to do something,' the teenage tiefling thinks.
Dev’s brow tilts down and his horns, crackling with yellow lightning, form a crescent moon as his eyes darken. Pursing his lips and blowing into his pan pipes, he repeats his silent, arcane melody, this time putting everything he's got into it.
(Dissonant Whispers - 13 WIS save or take 15HP Psychic damage & use its reaction to immediately flee full movement from Dev. On save take 7HP and don’t flee.)
Lokilia seems relieved with Normont's response, though a touch concerned that Maggie was so quickly knocked down by this creature. Keeping back, she fires another of her enchanted stones at the mimic. (Spell Attack: 25, crit; Damage: 15 bludgeoning)
Devs strange sonic spell craft seems to frighten the creature and it presses itself against the wall, slumphing northwards to try and get away from him.....Lokilias stone catches it solidly as it moves away. Quinns spell doesn't quite catch hold.....
( Mimic is now rapidly moving north away from Dev and is out of melee with everyone. Normont is up.)
"Hey, look what you've done. You don't get to run off after damaging Maggie like that", Normont says unhappily as he turns to see Maggie fall. "And she was doing such a good job too", he adds as he raises his rifle and aims at the retreating mimic.
He moves closer to make sure the mimic is in range, then once it is in his sights a bullet automatically loads, and he squeezes the trigger.
Normont
Movement: Moves to within 40ft of the mimic Action: Attack with rifle on mimic - To Hit: 6+6=12, Damage: 9+4=13 [magical piercing]
The rifle takes a good chunk out of the retreating ooze, but firing in such a confined space leaves the companions ears ringing for a bit and likely startles a few folk outside before the two elder guardsmen wave their hands and mutter ' Just a training exercise....pay it no mind.'
The mimic is heading northwards along the wall seemingly heading for the barred loading doors....it is about 45' away at this point and is obviously in retreat....
Dev, seeing the mimic succumb to his haunting melody, breathes a sigh of relief. But then he remembers Normont’s fallen defender. “Maggie!,” he whispers before turning to it and assessing. He doesn’t seem to find a life song in her at all. “Is she… dead? Can I heal her?,” he asks Normont, unsure.
Lokilia stands for a moment as Dev seems to relish in his success in repelling the creature, while it is still running off. She isn't sure, especially after Normont's shot at it, that they should just let it go. She moves after it in order to get close enough to launch another of her enchanted stones. (Spell Attack: 22, Damage; 6 bludgeoning)
Normont looks across to Dev and Maggie, "Oh, no. She's not dead. She just needs a bit of fixing, she'll be right as rain before you know it. We just need to make sure that thing doesn't escape and hurt someone first".
He closes the distance and aims his rifle once again at the mimic, the familiar click sounding as it reloads itself, and waits to see if Quinn will act to stop it. If not he will pull the trigger. Better to make a noise than have it loose amongst the citizens of Whitestone.
Normont
Movement: Moves to within 40ft of the mimic Action:If Quinn either doesn't try or fails to drop the mimic, he will shoot at it again Attack with rifle on mimic - To Hit: 17+6=23, Damage: 3+4=7 [magical piercing]
Normont nods in satisfaction, and then moves over to Maggie.
"You did well. Amazing really for your first scuffle. Let's fix you up", he says, and gets his tools out of his bag. He looks up at the others, "She will just be a minute. Whatever this was guarding must be of some interest, but best I get Maggie on her feet again in case there are more surprises".
He then spends six seconds adjusting her to engage her internal healing capacity, and stands to figure out what to do with the others as he waits for Maggie to revive.
Action: Spends a spell slot and after 1 minute Maggie will be back to full health.
Dev watches Normont’s nimble fingers work, intense fascination scrunching his eyebrows up against his horns, eyes going nova with wonderment. He will laugh in melodious joy if Maggie revives after such minor ministrations, before returning to the task of finding an office, desk, or other paperwork.
Lokilia sees Normont turning his attention to repairing Maggie, and as he does she turns her attention to the rest of the room. She first takes another look around to make sure there are no new signs of danger. (Perception: 21) If everything seems clear, she will walk about a bit to see if there might be any information here.
Lokilia comes over to Dev. "We'll have to check out those crates, I guess. But why would there be blank parchment here?" She peers over at them. "You think there could be a hidden message? Or maybe, they wrote on another parchment atop this one and there's an imprint?" If Dev would allow, she will try to take a closer look. (Investigation: 19)
(OOC: The wording suggests Normont only needs to spend an action to fix Maggie, although she takes a minute to heal up. So he will be able to wander around with the others in that time)
If it has died within the last hour, you can use your smith’s tools as an action to revive it, provided you are within 5 feet of it and you expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher. The steel defender returns to life after 1 minute with all its hit points restored.
Normont heads over to the crates and parchment as well, nodding as Lokilia starts to hypothesise about the parchment.
"I could perhaps set my equipment to detect magic again, but it would either take another 10 minutes or so or deplete the remainder of my resources", he says as he watches Lokilia investigate.
"I don't think we want to tarry here more than absolutely necessary, and in truth, even then I could only tell if there is magic concealing the message but not what it says".
When he spots Maggie rise to her feet, he claps, "Wonderful, the built in recovery mechanism works perfectly".

Not being an overly strategic thinker the now blob-like creature thrashed and bit at Maggie trying to destroy its most obvious tormentor.

It takes a minute or so to walk through the area while Normont tinkers, the only real things of interest are the pyramids of sealed crates.
There appear to be no other dangers physical or magical though Dev does find a few pieces of apparently blank parchment atop one of the crates.
