The dragons tongue flickered out once more and snatched up the coin, its eyes lit with a calculating light and frost and rime began to gather around its mouth as it rocked back on its rear limbs and its chest expanded....
...there was a sudden distant scream far across the snow towards the tower, a screaming figure on fire stumbled out of the door and collapsed followed by a bright flash of light as four figures appeared; two of them encased in scintillating spheres of light.....
.....the dragons head whipped around to regard the tower and the tiny figures outside it, its eye regarded the four companions for a moment, its wings thrust down lifting a flurry of snow and it was gone...winging its way towards the tower with hunger.....
As the dragon flies off and the four figures emerge from the tower, Lokilia asks, "You suppose those are the folks that left? I feel bad if they returned to the tower and found... well... it getting so hot!" She looks at the others then, "Do we take this opportunity and try to find a spot to hide? I mean, it be great to become friends with Sleetwing and all. But I'm not sure he's really looking for buddies rather than food."
When the dragon reared up, the hairs rose on the back of Dev’s neck, he closed his eyes, and instinctively turned his face away from the impending breath of freezing wind that would surely transform him and the others into statues of ice.
When Lokilia speaks, he dares to open his eyes. The dragon is gone! The tiefling staggers and falls in the snow, his feet numb. But he recovers his wits, kisses his shoes (yuck… maybe I should wash these…), and pulls the heavy boots back on over them.
”Let’s get out of here,” he suggests, scanning for the quickest path away from the tower while keeping an eye on the dragon and presumed Dwendalians below.
Normont found himself raising his shield and hunkering down behind it as it looked as though Sleetwing were about to freeze them with their icy breath.
He only reacts when he hears the scream from down by the tower.
"It does seem that the Dwendalions have returned. I cannot imagine they will be happy with the events since they left. We should definitely hurry away before they spot us. Let Sleetwing keep them occupied while slip away", he says in full agreement.
Lokilia agrees with Dev. "Yes, let's go. And yea, those Dwendalions are not likely to be happy we broke the tower so they can't explore it." She tries to find the closest spot where they might get some cover. And hopefully at least move out of sight of this place. With multiple dangers lurking about, she just hopes they manage it.
The four companions manage to retrace their steps enough to leave the valley, melting library and angry wizards and hungry dragons far behind.
Making their way back into the mountainous ridges once more will they retrace their steps through the haunted ruins or strike out north or south.
( For current location if you draw a line straight up from the tip of the d in Parchwood Timberlands and a line straight across from the top of the B in Parwood Bay that is your current approximate location.)
"I don't fancy going back through those haunted ruins", Normont says as they stop to discuss their route. "Maybe we can strike a different path to Whitestone", he adds, taking out the orb of direction he was given.
(OOC: Can Normont plot a safer route to Whitestone?)
Dev gazes wordlessly into the middle distance for a full two minutes after Normont mentions the ruins. The teenager shivers, snapping out of it, and watches with interest as Normont consults the globe.
Normont will focus on the orb of direction, and send Amber into the sky to get an elevated view of the way forward and to hopefully obtain some way markers. He will then attempt to plot a course around the ruin.
Survival (with Guidance and possibly advantage due to the orb and Amber helping - take first roll if not): (16, 11)+2+1=19
(OOC: Are we able to get a short rest whilst we stop and route plan?)
"I would love to find a place to bed for the day, we can maybe look at those crystals. I am rather exhausted." Quinn will speak as each step is labored.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Normont manages a to find a small cave in the rock face that is currently uninhabited and the companions are able to block the entrance with rocks and foliage to allow an uninterrupted rest.
"This is good," Lokilia says when Normont has found a cave. "Perhaps we can rest and figure out our route. I have no desire to go anywhere near those ruins again. There must be a path that will get us to Whitestone quickly."
She will find a comfortable spot to settle in while the rest.
(OOC - I forget how long it's been since a long rest. Lokilia is probably ok with just a short rest. But it may be about time for a long rest in terms of game time.)
As you are resting you discover the chewed remains of an old leather satchel wedged at the rear of the cave. Contents- 40gp, metal whiskey flask- full, a single uncut ruby ( 100 gp).
Your sleep is extremely restful and welcome everyone gains +5 Temp hp until their next Long Rest.
Dev's eyes droop heavily shut and when he awakens, after a long, deep, reconstituting sleep, he knows that he will remember this particular night's slumber for a long time.
Normont also sleeps well, but not before directing Amber to keep watch on the trail towards the cave and to come and get him if she spots anyone, And not before making sure they had left no tracks leading to it as well.
When they find the stash, it is easy enough to share the gold, with each of them getting 10. He has no interest in the whiskey, save for taking a swig if offered, just to warm his bones. He waits to see if the others have use for the ruby.
When he wakes, he will be found pouring over the schematics that he printed from the tower.
"Everyone ok", he finally says. "I will admit I not slept so hard in my life. And I think we have some hard days trek ahead to get to Whitestone whilst avoiding Dwendalions and dragons".
(OOC: Did Normont manage to plot the route to Whitestone avoiding the ruins?)

( Normont has a route picked out, but with Lokalia failing her Roll- and no additional successes from the others its gonna be slow and dangerous going at altitude for the first two days before a descent down to the eastern riverbank.
